Large-scale resistivity structure of the Superior Craton, Canada
The Superior Craton, located within the Canadian Precambrian Shield, hosts significant mineral
wealth largely concentrated within its southeastern portion. However, little is known about a) the
deep geophysical signatures, and b) the processes involved in the metal emplacement in the
Archean greenstone belts of the Superior province. Furthermore, despite several decades of
research involving a variety of geophysical methods, the electrical resistivity structure of the
Superior Craton remains enigmatic. Via the analysis, inversion, and interpretation of new and
legacy magnetotelluric data, this study aims to reveal the large-scale resistivity structure of the
Superior Craton, and thus gain insights into the geodynamic processes which were active during
its complex history as well as the underlying mechanisms responsible for the disparate levels of
shallow metal endowment across the Superior.
New 3D inverse modelling results of broadband MT stations from southeastern Superior, including
the well-endowed Abitibi and Pontiac subprovinces, reveals the details of a ‘whole-of-crust’
magmatic-hydrothermal system. East-west low resistivity structures broadly underlie the surface
traces of the major deformation zones that are host to significant gold endowment, while upper
and mid-crustal cross trends suggest mineralized fluids flowed along narrow pathways within
and/or oblique to the fault planes. These resistivity features delineate relict mantle source/transit
domains and crustal pathways enriched by the flow of magmas or metamorphic fluids which may
be genetically related to a late-stage pulse of ore-bearing magmatism, possibly as a result of slab
break-off or delamination.
Similar lower-crustal structures are imaged within the less endowed western Superior, where
inverse modelling results reveal curvilinear conductors within the lower crust trending sub-parallel
to major terrane boundaries and their associated fault systems. Similar to the southeastern
Superior, these conductive features are interpreted as the geo-electric signatures of syn- to post-
orogenic magmatism during crustal delamination. At depths of 100–200 km, the model is
dominated by north-trending bands of alternating low and high resistivity, interpreted to be
artefacts of electrical anisotropy. Subsequent anisotropic modelling of the data image an
electrically anisotropic layer within the lithosphere, interpreted to represent channelized

Energy consumption and GHG emissions at metal mines in Canada and the implications of Canadian climate change polices
The objectives of this research are to complete a review of energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG)
emissions at metal mines in Canada, to understand the implication of Canadian climate change legislation for
operations at these mines, and to assess practical actions mines can take to reduce their GHG emissions. The
mining industry is an energy intensive but profitable industry that plays a critical role in the Canadian economy
and the switch to a “green” economy. However, the reliance of the mining industry upon carbon rich fuels, the
large and long term land use changes associated with mines sites, and the long life span of mining operations

Exploring the influence of language concordance and the active offer of French language physician services on patient satisfaction through a Northern Ontario continuing professional development initiative
Francophone minority populations across Canada experience poorer health
outcomes. A lack of French language health services may be a contributing factor. Interpersonal
communication between patient and physician is essential to providing quality health care and
the legislative landscape in Ontario is evolving to become more responsive to Francophone
communication needs. For instance, the passing of Bill 74 and the modernisation of the French
Language Services Act (that was first passed in 1989) have created an expectation that health
service providers will proactively offer services in French. The purpose of the present thesis was
to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of a continuing professional development (CPD)
program that teaches patient-centered communication through the active offer of French
language services; to investigate the presence of the active offer in Northeastern Ontario; and to

“It needs updating and I can't wait to use the new version”: Clinicians’ experiences and suggestions for improving the SSKAAT-R
This paper-based thesis is part of a larger project aimed to update the SSKAAT-R. The thesis is
organized into 4 chapters, including an introductory chapter, 2 journal articles, and a final
Discussion chapter. The first paper examined clinicians' experience using the SSKAAT-R in
their clinical practice. Semi-structured interview data were analyzed using Thematic Analysis
(TA). Findings elucidate the versatility in administration guided by clinical judgement to meet
the diverse needs of clients. The SSKAAT-R was also used to assess client’s vulnerabilities to
sexual exploitation or as part of a risk assessment for inappropriate sexual behaviour. Lastly,
findings illustrated how clinicians use both socio-sexual knowledge and attitudes in different
ways. In the second paper, clinicians’ opinions on the strengths, weaknesses, and areas for
revision of the SSKAAT-R were examined. Interviews were analyzed using inductive content
analysis (Bengtsson, 2016). Overall, clinicians were impressed with the SSKAAT-R and felt
revisions should include updating pictures and concepts, and increasing portability. Implications
for clinical assessment and intervention are discussed
Structural evolution, geochemistry, and geochronology of the Magino Gold Deposit, Michipicoten Greenstone Belt, Northern Ontario
The Magino gold mine is located approximately 40 km northeast of the town of Wawa within the
Michipicoten greenstone belt of the Archean Wawa subprovince. Mineralization is hosted by the
ca. 2724 Ma tonalitic Webb Lake stock within the Goudreau Lake Deformation Zone. The Magino
deposit formed during two gold mineralization events. The first mineralizing event is coeval with
the emplacement of the Webb Lake stock and is manifested by corridors of strong
phengite/muscovite-quartz-pyrite alteration and saccharoidal quartz veins. The latter are dated at
2731 ± 6.9 Ma (Re-Os molybdenite) and overlap within error with the age of the host intrusion.
The second gold mineralization event is associated with epigenetic quartz-tourmaline-carbonate
veins, which were emplaced during the formation of the steep regional foliation along the
Goudreau Lake Deformation Zone. The Magino deposit is an excellent example of an Archean
intrusion-related gold system later overprinted by deformation, orogenic mineralization, and

Detecting image forgery over social media using U-NET with grasshopper optimization
Currently, video and digital images possess extensive utility, ranging from recreational and social
media purposes to verification, military operations, legal proceedings, and penalization. The
enhancement mechanisms of this medium have undergone significant advancements, rendering
them more accessible and widely available to a larger population. Consequently, this has facilitated
the ease with which counterfeiters can manipulate images. Convolutional neural networks (CNN)-
based feature extraction and detection techniques were used to carry out this task, which aims to
identify the variations in image features between modified and non-manipulated areas. However,
the effectiveness of the existing detection method could be more efficient. This thesis introduces
a segmentation method to identify the forgery region in the images with the U-Net model's
improved structure. The suggested model connects the encoder and decoder pipeline by improving
the convolution module and increasing the set of weights in the U-Net contraction and expansion
path. In addition, the parameters of U-Net network are optimized by using the grasshopper
algorithm. Experiments were carried out on the publicly accessible image tempering detection
evaluation dataset from the Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Automation (CASIA) to
assess the efficacy of the suggested strategy. The results show that the U-Net modifications
significantly improve the overall segmentation results compared to other models. The
effectiveness of this method was evaluated on CASIA, and the quantitative results obtained based
on accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score demonstrate the superiority of the U-Net modifications

The effects of different message frames on COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and beliefs
This survey experiment investigated the effect of differently framed public health messages on
COVID-19 vaccine beliefs, and whether their effect was influenced by various individual
differences. Participants in a Canadian sample (N=393) were randomly assigned to read a
message addressing either the benefits of vaccinating for others, the health consequences of
COVID-19 for vulnerable populations, the safety and efficacy of the vaccines with general or
specific information, or the widespread willingness of Canadians to be vaccinated. The control
group received no messaging. Overall, exposure to messaging did not predict beliefs toward the
vaccines, however, participants who read the message addressing the widespread willingness to
be vaccinated reported more negative beliefs. The effect of messaging significantly depended on
political orientation and conspiracist ideation, which in addition to younger age, male gender,
and greater religiosity, predicted negative beliefs toward the vaccines. These findings may
inform efforts to improve COVID-19 vaccine uptake.Master of Arts (MA) in Psycholog

The pairwise comparisons method helps us with decision-making that involves
multiple criteria. The consistency-driven pairwise comparisons method has
been proven to be especially helpful with inconsistent data. By combining the
pairwise comparisons method with nowadays’ advanced web technology, the
decision-making process is simplified. This thesis integrates the theory of the
pairwise comparisons method, and Koczkodaj’s inconsistency measurement,
and reduction algorithms into an online implementation. The implementation
utilizes JavaScript and its technologies, CSS, and HTML. It also uses version
control technologies like GitHub and GitHub Pages. GitHub is a platform and
cloud-based service for software development and version control. GitHub

Développement de la pensée critique des élèves : une étude des pratiques pédagogiques effectives d’un enseignant d’eps en République du Congo
La présente étude a pour objectif d’examiner le lien entre les pratiques pédagogiques effectives d’un enseignant d’EPS du collège et le développement de la pensée critique des élèves lors du processus enseignement-apprentissage. Pour ce faire, des pratiques pédagogiques d’un cycle d’enseignement de sept cours d’EPS ont été observées et analysées. Des entrevues semi-dirigées ante et post-classe ont été réalisées avec cet enseignant. Chaque séance d’EPS a été enregistrée et observée au moyen d’une fiche d’observation. Une méthodologie d’études de cas unique selon une approche qualitative a été utilisée pour analyser et interpréter les données recueillies. Les résultats obtenus ont montré une forte proportion de temps didactique en faveur des élèves (71% pour les élèves versus 29% pour l’enseignant) et seulement deux types de styles d’enseignement mis de l’avant selon les approches de Mosston et Ashworth (2006): le style d’enseignement par commandement et le style d’enseignement par découverte guidée. De plus, les résultats révèlent que 20 situations éducatives (dont 9 situations simples et 11 situations complexes) ont été mises en place par l’enseignant lors du cycle d’enseignement. Toutefois, aucune sollicitation cognitive explicite n’a été faite aux élèves lors de la réalisation de ces situations éducatives. Ce qui ne permet pas de penser à un développement optimal réel des attitudes et des habiletés cognitives relatives à la pensée critique des élèves
