Le travail social en milieu scolaire franco-ontarien: regards sur les rôles de leadership pour favoriser le bien-être et la santé mentale des élèves
Ce mémoire adopte une approche exploratoire et qualitative pour examiner les rôles de
leadership des travailleurs sociaux en milieu scolaire francophone en Ontario. Il met en
lumière leurs contributions significatives, pour la coordination et la mise en œuvre des
orientations provinciales en matière de santé mentale des élèves. Cette recherche
souligne l'importance de reconnaître et de valoriser la diversité des rôles de leadership,
qui reposent sur les compétences, les connaissances et les expériences des travailleurs
sociaux, pour contribuer de manière stratégique à l'amélioration des systèmes éducatifs
en évolution.
Les travailleurs sociaux en milieu scolaire, font valoir un style de leadership éthique et
compatissant essentiel, fondé sur des principes intégrés au code de déontologie, des
connaissances pratiques directes et un engagement envers la justice sociale. En réponse
aux défis posés par à la pandémie de la COVID-19, ce leadership est davantage mis en
avant-plan, jouant un rôle central, dans la mobilisation des mesures de soutiens pour le
bien-être et la santé mentale de la communauté scolaire. Cette reconnaissance a le
potentiel d'avoir un impact significatif sur le développement professionnel et identitaire
des travailleurs sociaux en milieu scolaire, et sur les programmes universitaires en
service social en Ontario.
En explorant un domaine de recherche largement sous-exploré, à savoir le leadership en
travail social en milieu scolaire, au sein des communautés francophones de l'Ontario,
cette étude ouvre la voie à des discussions éclairantes et à des opportunités

distinct neighbourhoods that are undergoing
redevelopment for a new transit hub. This thesis
develops a set of guidelines for this industrial
site’s future adaptability and proposes the design
of a mixed-use commercial community hub
that offers numerous amenities while reflecting
the surrounding neighbourhoods’ identities

The efficacy of mobile mental health applications (mHealth apps) in reducing symptoms of anxious and depressive distress in a university population
Internet-based self-help interventions, such as mobile mental health applications (mHealth apps),
have the potential to enhance mental health service delivery in universities in a cost-effective
way. However, the existing literature on mHealth apps is limited and does not sufficiently
support their supposed benefits. The present study attempted to evaluate the efficacy of selfguided mHealth apps in reducing symptoms of psychological anxious distress and psychological
depressive distress among university students. Students (N = 77; 76.6% female; 17 to 53 years
old) completed the Hospital and Anxiety Depression Scale (HADS) prior to being randomized to
6 weeks of intervention with one of three mHealth apps marketed for reducing anxiety (DARE,
Mindshift, or Stresscoach), or an active smartphone-based control to rule out the digital placebo
effect (Coloring Book for Adults app). After 6 weeks, students completed the HADS again as a
follow-up measure of app effectiveness. The results did not support the effectiveness of the
mHealth apps in reducing anxious or depressive distress (Pillai’s Trace = .024, F(6, 146) = .290,
p = .941). However, the results suggested that over time, students’ levels of depression increased,
irrespective of app (mean difference = -.698; 95% CI = -1.364 to -0.33). The results also
suggested that students with problematic levels of anxious distress at baseline experienced a
decrease in symptoms at follow-up, irrespective of app (mean difference = 1.696; 95% CI = .816
to 2.575). Conversely, students who did not report anxious distress at baseline experienced an
increase in anxious distress at follow-up, regardless of app (mean difference = -1.806; 95% CI =

Smart mining simulation with an intelligent supervisory agent for automated shovel dig allocation and truck deployment
The mining industry faces a substantial increase in data generation, making real-time knowledge acquisition challenging. Mining data from day-to-day operations from monitoring devices and sensors include the location of a truck or shovel, processing rate, and quantity of material mined. The complexity of decision-making in mining has grown due to intricate mineral deposits and the need for improved productivity. The focus of this thesis is to develop a decision support framework referred to as smart mining architecture (SMA), which leverages the power of simulation and reinforcement learning for understanding mining system interactions and enhancing mining operational performance. The mining operation and activities of mining equipment are simulated and modelled using a discrete event simulation (DES) and an agent-based model (ABM) respectively. The primary objective of this research is to develop an intelligent supervisory agent capable of making smart decisions such as block sequencing, truck-shovel dispatching and equipment maintenance and repairs towards improved operational performance. A reinforcement learning deep quality network (DQN) algorithm is used to develop and train the agent. The aim of the agent is to learn a policy that maximizes the expected return by interacting in real-time with its environment taking smart actions to improve the learning policy. The developed intelligent supervisory agent (ISA) was successfully implemented for a bauxite mine. The model was used to perform block sequencing, truck-shovel dispatching and equipment maintenance and repairs in the SMA. Experimental cases with integrated ISA were compared with experimental cases without the ISA. The output results with ISA maintained consistent production levels in the presence of mining operational uncertainties. Additionally, in the final experiment involving the DES, ABM and ISA, there was 3% increase in total cashflow from the smart management of the short term mine plan and mining equipment deployment as compared to experiments without the ISA. With the introduction of the ISA, fewer workers are required to run the mining operation resulting in financial savings. Fewer workers also mean less interaction between people and equipment leading to improvement in health and safety records and occupational health challenges
The impact of two robotic-assisted devices on the functional hand recovery in post-stroke adult rehabilitation: a review
Hand movement impairment is a common complication after a stroke that impedes
patients from performing Activities of Daily Living [ADLs] independently and returning to
the workplace. It diminishes their quality of life and imposes a substantial socioeconomic
burden. Therefore, regaining hand movement after a stroke has meaningful quality-of-life and
quality-of-work-life outcomes for patients. Treatments aimed at full hand function are
leading strategies for stroke recovery programs.
The effects of implementing robotic devices as a form of rehabilitation alone or in
combination with other rehabilitation strategies, such as conventional treatment, have been
investigated in several articles. This review explains the role of rehabilitation robots and
summarizes recent advances in stroke survivors’ hand rehabilitation when using Gloreha or
Tyrosolution robots. We conclude that robotic devices improve post-stroke hand recovery,
especially in terms of motor function and activities of daily living.Master of Human Kinetic
Microbial ecology of wastewater treatment and residuals
Every day, municipal activities and industrial processes consume and contaminate a large
volume of water, which must then be treated before being returned to aquatic ecosystems.
Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) use physical, chemical, and microbiological processes to
clean the water, which in turn produces sludge. Sludge, an organic waste product, historically has
been landfilled, but can be diverted from landfills if it used as a resource for biogas methane
production or as organic fertiliser on damaged ecosystems. Microbial communities are the
ecosystem engineers driving changes in organic matter and chemistry throughout wastewater
treatment, methane production, and soil development, and modern mass sequencing tools allow
us to survey the microbial community composition associated with different environments and
outcomes. In this thesis, I looked at the microbial communities and treatment endpoints of
interest associated with anaerobic digestion, land application, and production of WWTP sludge.
In my first research project, I examined methane production from anaerobic digestion of
11 pulp and paper mill WWTP sludges. Mean methane potential varied between sludges, and
kraft mill primary sludges produced more methane than biosludge, whereas other mills showed
inhibition in primary sludge. Methane production only occurred in sludges with high diversity
prior to anaerobic incubation. In my second project, 8 treatments of organic-derived industrial
residuals, including WWTP sludges and controls, were applied to plots in semi-barren smelter-
impacted land around Sudbury, and trees were planted to evaluate value in ecosystem restoration
for the Sudbury Regreening Program. Treatment effect on soil chemistry and the microbial
community was largely associated with pH changes, and soil metal concentrations did not
increase beyond regulatory limits, so treatments with liming capacity are likely suitable for use
in the Sudbury Regreening Program. In my third project, I surveyed the microbial communities
of 4 WWTPs around Sudbury in summer and winter to compare seasonal differences. WWTPs
had differences in bacterial, archaeal, and eukaryotic communities in summer and winter.
Archaeal community changes showed similar patterns across WWTPs, but bacterial communities
had different patterns for WWTPs that demonstrated nitrification, and eukaryotic communities
had different patterns across all WWTPs. Overall, I demonstrated similarities and differences in
microbial communities degrading organic matter across multiple treatments in association with

Architectural succession: a multi-species approach to the built environment
A novel approach to single-species design is urgently required. Urban expansion is directly
impacting global biodiversity, increasing habitat-threatened species reliance on human
infrastructure. Whereby recognizing the architect’s responsibility to provide habitat for
additional species, the built environment can be utilized for multi-species inhabitation.
Derived from the natural cycle of ecological succession, Architectural Succession outlines
the process of change occurring for a built environments program and user over time.
Informed by this framework, a Research Creation process examines the at-risk Chimney
Swift and its food source within a successional multi-species structure. Further enhancing
Sudbury, Ontario’s, Regreening efforts, barren outcroppings offer significant opportunity
for multi-species built intervention, encouraging habitat recovery and the return of
species at-risk. A wildlife observation pavilion explores the successional opportunities
of traditional light wood frame construction undergoing the decomposition process to

Optimal data allocation method considering privacy enhancement using E-CARGO
With the rise in popularity of cloud computing, there is a growing trend toward the storage of
data in a cloud environment. However, there is a significant increase in the risk of privacy
information leakage, and users could face serious challenges as a result of data leakage. In this
paper, we propose an allocation scheme for the storage of data in a collaborative edge-cloud
environment, with a focus on enhanced data privacy. In addition, we explore an extended
application of the approach to sourcing. Specifically, we first evaluate the datasets and servers.
We then introduce several constraints and use the Environments-Classes, Agents, Roles, Groups,
and Objects (E-CARGO) model to formalize the problem. Based on the qualification value, we
can find the optimal allocation using the IBM ILOG CPLEX Optimization (CPLEX) Package. At
a given scale, the allocation scheme scores based on our method improve by about 50%
compared to the baseline method and the trust-based method. Moreover, we use a similar
approach to analyze procurement issues in the supply chain to help companies reduce the carbon
emissions. This shows that our proposed solution can store data in servers that better suit their

YouTube et la cohésion sociale au sein des diasporas africaines Cas des communautés camerounaises et congolaises de Toronto
Dans cette étude, nous avons évalué la perception de l'influence des réseaux sociaux sur la
cohésion sociale. Nous nous sommes concentrés sur les communautés virtuelles formées
par les diasporas congolaises et camerounaises de Toronto, qui se rassemblent autour des
chaines YouTube d'information politique. Nous avons examiné comment l'utilisation de
cette plateforme vidéo affecte les interactions, le partage d'informations et les valeurs
culturelles au sein de ces communautés, ainsi que leur cohésion en tant que groupe social.
Nous avons également examiné l’influence de l'âge, de l’éducation et de la durée de
résidence sur l’utilisation de YouTube et la cohésion sociale. Nous avons cherché à
comprendre comment les membres des communautés perçoivent les émissions politiques
diffusées sur YouTube et leur impact sur la cohésion sociale.
Nos résultats n'ont pas révélé de corrélation entre l'utilisation personnelle de YouTube et
l'opinion générale sur l'impact des émissions politiques diffusées sur cette plateforme. Nous
avons constaté la complexité de la relation entre les émissions politiques sur YouTube et
la perception de la cohésion sociale.
D'après l’opinion des enquêtés, la cohésion sociale est peu liée aux émissions politiques
sur YouTube. Nous avons également constaté que, pour les communautés diasporiques,
YouTube remplit trois fonctions : informer, divertir et servir de prolongement de la vie
culturelle et sociale du pays d'origine.
En ce qui concerne l’utilisation de la plateforme, les deux groupes exploitent YouTube
pour maintenir des liens sociaux, se divertir et s'informer. Cependant, ils ne l'utilisent pas

Gold mineralisation in a chemically reactive host: the Archean Gold Mineralised Vickers Dioritic Intrusive Complex, Nunavut Canada.
The Vickers albitised dioritic intrusion (VDI, 2668 ± 6 Ma), located in the central Hearne sub-
domain of Nunavut, hosts a significant gold discovery (2012; e.g., hole PB-12-09 164.41 m @
5.39 ppm Au). The intrusion (equilibrated to lower-greenschist-facies) is located in the northern
part of the 2.72 to 2.65 Ga Tavani greenstone belt, an area that has been interpreted to contain
the Pistol Bay Corridor, a west-northwest-trending brittle/ductile deformation zone. The VDI is
an elliptical (900 x 600 m) heterogeneous igneous intrusion emplaced into the siliclastic
Evitaruktuk Formation, part of the sedimentary Kaminak Group, and contains highly anomalous
Au mineralisation focused along its northeastern contact. Pyrite and arsenopyrite, spatially
associated with gold mineralisation, occur proximal to quartz- carbonate± chlorite veins that
increase relative to the severity of hydrothermal alteration. Several gradational alteration
assemblages are present in the mineralised zone, including chlorite- (CF1+CF2) and silica-facies
(SF1I + SF2I) that are restricted to the VDI, and sericite-facies (SF1FW+SF2FW) in the
footwall. By integrating petrographic observations, LA-ICP-MS analysis (sulphide mapping, Pb
isotopes), in situ SIMS δ18Oquartz and δ34Spyrite, arsenopyrite, and other geochemical data (whole rock,
SEM, etc.), a working model is proposed. The preferred model suggests that a metamorphic fluid
carrying Au as a bi-sulphide complex was focused along a rheologically favourable contact and
