The Impact of Having a Native Spanish-Speaking Nurse in Labor and Delivery for Latina Mothers
Get PDFLabor and Delivery is the physiological process in which a pregnant woman gives birth to a baby. (Lowdermilk et al., 2019). This can be a physically, emotionally, and medically challenging process for mothers. Patients with limited English proficiency have difficulties communicating their needs, more specifically pain management needs when there are language barriers between them and the healthcare staff. (Jimenez et al., 2012). As of July 2023, Hispanic or Latinos made up 19.5% of the United States population, an estimated 65.2 million people. (pewresearch.org). An increase in the Hispanic population that primarily speaks Spanish can pose challenges for healthcare settings when there are limited Spanish speaking nurses. (Jimenez et al., 2012). With limited research on this topic, it is important to explore the experiences of both Spanish-speaking patients and native Spanish-speaking nurses in a Labor and Delivery setting. Demagoguery and Political Rhetoric: A Comparative Analysis of Father Charles E. Coughlin and Donald J. Trump
Get PDFMany Americans can still recall James Madison’s warning against mob rule in The Federalist Papers. What Madison did not articulate as memorably, however, was that it is not the mob we need to fear, but the demagogue. Who is the one fueling the fire through their use of sensational rhetoric? A term from ancient Greek mythology, a demagogue generally means a persuasive orator and leader of the people. The historical demagogue has many iterations in modern American politics that continue to undermine democracy and justice. However, there has not been a comprehensive study comparing two of the arguably most influential and publicized political agitators of their times. My thesis will discuss the research question: To what extent does the rhetoric Trump uses in his speeches compare to that of historical figure Father Charles Coughlin? Although Coughlin was mainly a religious radio personality, and Trump a US presidential candidate, and they operated in separate historical contexts, both figures used similar fundamental methods that demagogues employ like blame and personal attacks to spread false information and gain political clout. Using content analysis, my thesis analyzed speeches and radio broadcasts to demonstrate that Father Coughlin and Donald Trump used powerful rhetoric to agitate and infiltrate American politics by embodying the image of the demagogue. The findings showed that Donald Trump used demagogic rhetoric in 63.2% of his speeches coded for this project, while Father Coughlin used demagogic rhetoric in 20.6% of his speeches coded for this project. Both Trump and Coughlin used the demagogic strategies of personal attacks most in their speeches, followed by false narratives

Among these groups were Chinese immigrants, who, fleeing difficult conditions in their homeland, arrived seeking jobs and a place to call home. Despite facing numerous laws aimed at suppressing Chinese immigrations and enduring widespread animosity, these individuals have become an integral part of the Bay Area’s history, particularly in San Francisco and Marin. Machine Intelligence with Associative Memory and Event-Driven Transaction History
Get PDFDigital machine intelligence has evolved from its inception in the form of computation of numbers to AI, which is centered around performing cognitive tasks that humans can perform, such as predictive reasoning or complex calculations. The state of the art includes tasks that are easily described by a list of formal, mathematical rules or a sequence of event-driven actions such as modeling, simulation, business workflows, interaction with devices, etc., and also tasks that are easy to do “intuitively”, but are hard to describe formally or as a sequence of event-driven actions such as recognizing spoken words or faces. While these tasks are impressive, they fall short in applying common sense reasoning to new situations, filling in information gaps, or understanding and applying unspoken rules or norms. Human intelligence uses both associative memory and event-driven transaction history to make sense of what they are observing fast enough to do something about it while they are still observing it. In addition to this cognitive ability, all bio-logical systems exhibit autopoiesis and self-regulation. In this paper, we demonstrate how machine intelligence can be enhanced to include both associative memory and event-driven transaction history to create a new class of knowledge-based assistants to augment human intelligence. The digital assistants use global knowledge derived from the Large Language Models to bridge the knowledge gap between various participants interacting with each other. We use the general theory of information and schema-based knowledge representation to create the memory and history of various transactions involved in the interactions
Effects of Menopause on Coronary Artery Disease
Get PDFMenopausal women, 40 to 60 years old, have an increased risk of developing coronary artery disease (CAD) when they experience hormonal changes. Which then can lead to unwanted cardiac events. Within the literature review of this paper, it was found that there are factors of menopause that may further increase the risk of coronary artery disease in menopausal women. Such factors include whether a woman underwent surgical or natural menopause and the timing when menopause began. Additionally, within the review, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) was explored to determine whether the possible intervention can decrease the progression and risk of developing CAD. The proposed research created within the thesis involves a quantitative, randomized controlled trial (RCT) to research the CAD risks further and understand the effectiveness of HRT in reducing the risk of CAD in menopausal women.
