Laparoscopic spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy for a primary hydatid cyst mimicking a mucinous cystic neoplasia
Pancreatic hydatid cysts are fairly rare. The disease can be encountered concurrently with systemic involvement or as an isolated pancreatic involvement. We report the first case of spleen-preserving laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy for a pancreatic hydatid cyst. There was no complication or recurrence. A 55-year-old woman was admitted to our centre with epigastric and back pain. Upper abdominal magnetic resonance imaging revealed a solitary cystic lesion with septations at the pancreatic tail level measuring 24 mm x 18 mm, which was initially thought to be a pancreatic mucinous cystic neoplasia. She underwent laparoscopic spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy and cholecystectomy. Her post-operative course was uneventful and histopathological examination revealed a hydatid cyst in the pancreatic tail
SHIFTED EULER-SEIDEL MATRICES
In this study defining Shifted Euler-Seidel matrices we generalize the Euler-Seidel matrices method. Owing to this generalization one can investigate any sequences. (s(n)) which have two term linear recurrences as s(m+n) = alpha s(m+n-1) + beta s(n-1) (alpha and beta are real parameters and n, m is an element of Z(+)). By way of illustration, we give some examples related to the Fibonacci p-numbers
Effects of bone marrow fibrosis and angiogenetic structure on autologous hematopoietic stem cell engraftment
Purpose: Hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) engraftment is influenced by many factors. We investigated the effects of bone marrow fibrosis and angiogenetic structure on engraftment in patients with hematological malignancies.
Materials and Methods: Data were collected from 34 patients (20 males and 14 females) who underwent autologous HSC transplantation. Bone marrow myelofibrosis was graded from 0 to 3, angiogenesis was quantified using a stereological method in the most recent bone marrow biopsy before the transplantation. Patients were categorized into two groups according to intensity of angiogenesis parameters.
Results: Half of the patients had fibrosis and majority had multiple myeloma (73.5%). Eleven patients had grade 1, six had grade 2 myelofibrosis. The engraftment day (ED) for platelets and erythrocytes was significantly different between the grade 2 fibrosis and non-fibrosis groups. VSD and NVES levels were significantly higher in the grades 1 and 2 fibrosis groups than the no fibrosis group. While the overall survival time was shorter in the grade 2 fibrosis group than the others, the difference was not statistically significant.
Conclusion: Bone marrow fibrosis was found to be independent risk factor. It may have a negative effect on platelet and erythrocyte engraftment time of autologous transplantation process but this effect does not influence survival
Sensorineural Hearing Loss in Selective Immunglobulin A Deficiency
Objective: To assess hearing functions in pediatric patients with selective immunoglobulin A (IgA) deficiency (SIGAD).
Methods: Pure-tone audiometry, acoustic impedance, otoacoustic emission, and brainstem audiometric measurements were taken during a non-infectious period in 28 patients with SIGAD and 28 healthy children with normal otoscopic examination. The results of the hearing tests were compared between the two groups.
Results: Two male patients and one female patient in the SIGAD group were found to have sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). However, a comparison of the average pure tone cut-off values at 0.5, 1, 2, and 4 kHz did not reveal any statistically significant difference between the groups (p>0.05).
Conclusion: Pediatric patients with SIGAD may exhibit SNHL at certain frequencies and require follow-up for the potential development of hearing loss
Foreign body punctured the spleen: An incidental diagnosis
A foreign body can enter the body via penetration through the skin. In the presented case, a broken syringe needle was found and removed from the splenic parenchyma. In order to prevent such iatrogenic injuries, which could have fatal consequences, the hospital staff must give particular care in the handling of sharp FBs
Can red cell distribution width be used as a predictor of acute cholecystitis?
Objective: Acute cholecystitis is a common disease requiring accurate markers for diagnosis and proper treatment. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of red cell distribution width (RDW) in acute cholecystitis.
Material and Methods: 299 were included in the study. The subjects were divided into 2 groups; group 1 (n: 46) acute cholecystitis group and group 2 (n:253) chronic cholecystitis group. The patients were compared with respect to demographic characteristics, white blood cell count, C-reactive protein, and red cell distribution width.
Results: A statistically significant difference was observed between groups with respect to gender, white blood cell count, C-reactive protein, and red cell distribution width level (p<0.05). The mean red cell distribution width level of group 1 and 2 was 14.19 +/- 2.02% and 15.03 +/- 2.51%, respectively.
Conclusion: Red cell distribution width level can be used as a predictor of acute cholecystitis. Multicenter prospective studies should be performed to elucidate the exact role of RDW level in acute cholecystitis
Mean platelet volume in Graves' disease: A sign of hypermetabolism rather than autoimmunity?
Objective: To evaluate the impact of mean platelet volume (MPV) on predicting disease course among patients with Graves' disease (GD).
Methods: This retrospective study was performed between 2013-2016 at the Outpatient Endocrinology Clinic of Baskent University Faculty of Medicine, Adana hospital on 65 patients with GD. Among participants, 30 cases experienced thyrotoxicosis again during the first six months after discontinuing anti-thyroid drug (ATD) sessions that had been carried out for at least 12 months prior to stopping (Relapse group). We also observed 35 patients who exhibited normal thyroid functions within six months following ATD withdrawal (Remission group). MPV levels and thyroid function tests were recorded and total duration of ATD therapy was calculated for all participants.
Results: The mean MPV level that was measured at the time of drug withdrawal did not differ between groups, being 8.0 +/- 1.2 fL in the Relapse group vs. 8.0 +/- 1.0 fL in the Remission group (p=0.81). However, we found that the relapse MPV was higher than the withdrawal MPV in the Relapse group (9.2 +/- 1.3 fL) than it was in the Remission group (8.0 +/- 1.2 fL, p=0.00).
Conclusions: Higher relapse MPV in Relapse group but similar MPV levels in both groups at ATD withdrawal may be attributed to hypermetabolism or hyperthyroidism rather than autoimmunity of GD
Neonatal cerebral sinovenous thrombosis: Two cases, two different gene polymorphisms and risk factors
Cerebral sinovenous thrombosis (CSVT) is a rare disease in the neonatal period and also the greatest risk of neonatal mortality and morbidity. In this report, we presented two cases with CSVT and different risk factors. One of these cases had methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) C677T homozygous polymorphism and the other case had both MTHFR A1298C homozygous polymorphism, plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) 4G/5G polymorphism and elevated lipoprotein a. Early diagnosis and prompt initiation of therapy of neonatal CSVT may prevent neonatal mortality and poor long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes
Multimodality Imaging in Restrictive Cardiomyopathies: An EACVI expert consensus document In collaboration with the "Working Group on myocardial and pericardial diseases" of the European Society of Cardiology Endorsed by The Indian Academy of Echocardiography
Restrictive cardiomyopathies (RCMs) are a diverse group of myocardial diseases with a wide range of aetiologies, including familial, genetic and acquired diseases and ranging from very rare to relatively frequent cardiac disorders. In all these diseases, imaging techniques play a central role. Advanced imaging techniques provide important novel data on the diagnostic and prognostic assessment of RCMs. This EACVI consensus document provides comprehensive information for the appropriateness of all non-invasive imaging techniques for the diagnosis, prognostic evaluation, and management of patients with RCM

Power that is one of the most important factors of human life has become a source of many
organizational studies made in the social field today. This study includes definitions in
academic literature and analysis on organizational power, power bases, and resources. When
the concept of power is examined at the organizational level, the concepts of dependency and
power can not be considered alone, so the dependencies of the units within the organization
are mentioned. The units and their areas of activity within the five-star accommodation
operation in the service sector, which is the research area, are explained. In a five-star city
hotel that continues it's presence in Ankara, whether dependency relations within the units in
the organization can be managed or not by social network relations which are the product of
social capital is analyzed and interpreted through the data from social networks which include
data of a hundred and forty-five main body members consisting of unit managers and
employees
