International Symposium on Occupational Safety and Hygiene: Proceedings Book of the SHO2019
No full textThe Portuguese Society of Occupational Safety and Hygiene (SPOSHO) organises on 15th and 16th April 2019, the 15th edition of the Intemational Symposium on Occupational Safety and Hygiene - SHO 2019. Similarly to the past thirteen years, the event is being held in the main Auditorium of the School of Engineering at University ofMinho in Guimarães.
The 2019 edition covers the issues of Ergonomics and Physical Environment, Chemical and Biological Risk, Fire Safety and Prevention Management, which occur in plenary sessions, as well as in parallel sessions of submitted works in different subjects covered by the event and several sessions ofposters.A Sociedade Portuguesa de Segurança e Higiene Ocupacionais realiza, em 15 e 16 de Abril de 2019, a 15ª edição do Colóquio Internacional de Segurança e Higiene Ocupacionais - SHO 2019. Tal como nos treze últimos anos, o evento tem lugar no Auditório Nobre da Escola de Engenharia da Universidade do Minho, em Guimarães.
A edição de 2019 abrange as temáticas da Ergonomia e do Ambiente Físico, dos Riscos Químicos e Biológicos, da Segurança contra Incêndio e da Gestão da Prevenção, que são objeto de sessões plenárias, decorrendo ainda várias sessões paralelas de comunicações livres nas áreas temáticas previstas para o evento, bem como várias sessões com apresentação de posters

Dinâmica e Sistemas Dinâmicos
No full textEste livro destina-se a alunos universitários do primeiro ano de ciências e engenharia. Espera-se que o aluno tenha alguns conhecimentos de álgebra linear e de cálculo infinitesimal e diferencial. Com o desenvolvimento dos computadores pessoais, o tipo de problemas que podem ser resolvidos numa disciplina introdutória de física aumentou significativamente. As técnicas de computação e simulação permitem ao aluno desenvolver uma visão geral de um problema de física, sem ter de aprender métodos analíticos complicados. As técnicas computacionais inicialmente desenvolvidas para resolver problemas de mecânica têm sido aplicadas com sucesso em domínios exteriores à física, dando origem à teoria geral dos sistemas dinâmicos. O objetivo é transmitir ao leitor conhecimentos básicos de mecânica e dos métodos computacionais usados para resolver sistemas dinâmicos. É usado o Sistema de Computação Algébrica (CAS) Maxima para facilitar a resolução dos problemas.
O tema central do livro é a mecânica, incluindo-se também alguns temas contemporâneos, como sistemas não lineares e sistemas caóticos. A abordagem adotada situa-se no âmbito da mecânica clássica, admitindo-se a existência de um espaço absoluto e de um tempo absoluto, independentes dos observadores. Os seis primeiros capítulos seguem o programa tradicional das disciplinas de introdução à mecânica para estudantes de ciências e engenharia, sem incluir sistemas de vários corpos nem mecânica dos fluidos. O capítulo 7 é uma introdução aos sistemas dinâmicos. O capítulo 8 aborda a mecânica lagrangiana e os capítulos 9, 10 11 e 12 são sobre sistemas dinâmicos

Proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Integrity-Reliability-Failure (IRF2018)
No full textIRF2018 is the sixth international gathering of a prestigious series of Integrity-Reliability-Failure conferences coordinated by the International Scientific Committee of Mechanics and Materials in Design. This series of conferences are wholy devoted to advances in mechanics, materials, structural integrity and design. IRF2018 is jointly sponsored by the University of Porto, the University of Toronto and the Portuguese Society for Experimental Mechanics. The conference attracted over 200 participants with 258 accepted submissions involving 702 authors from 42 different countries around the world. The conference themes which address novel and advanced topics on Integrity, Reliability and Failure focused on Automotive,Locomotive, Aerospace, Civil Engineering and Biomechanics, including Computational Mechanics, Experimental Mechanics, Fracture and Fatigue, Composite and Advanced Materials, Tribology and Surface Engineering, Mechanical Design and Prototyping, Biomechanical Applications, Civil Engineering Applications, Energy and Thermo-FluidSystems, and Industrial Engineering and Management, among other topics.
The conference also included an Open Forum on “Can Professors Balance Scholarly Work, Teaching and Admin? The Challenges Going Forward”, where an expert panel with many years of collective and active researchers and educators addressed the issue of balancing the activities of teaching, research and services within the universities. We believe that the meeting offered our delegates a forum for the discussion and dissemination of their recent work in assessing the integrity, reliability and failure ofengineering structures, components and systems, fostered research that integrates mechanicsand materials in the design process, and promoted exchange of ideas and international cooperationamong scientists and engineers in this important field of engineering.
We are particularly indebted to the authors and special guests for their presentations. Each ofthe 258 contributions offered opportunities for thorough discussions with the authors. Particularly, we acknowledge the excellent contributions of the participants, their innovative ideas and research directions, the novel modeling and simulation techniques, and the invaluable critical comments. We are also indebted to the outstanding keynote speakers who highlighted the conference themes with their contributions and covered the main topics of theconference. We also take this opportunity to thank the members of the International Scientific Committee and the reviewers for their time and helpful suggestions, the symposia organisers for their efforts and valuable contributions to the success of the event, and the local organising committee for an absolutely superb organization of the meeting in this magnificent city. To all of you, we offer our gratitude.
Given the rapidity with which science is advancing in all areas related to the topics discussed in the present meeting, the next conference in this series (Integrity-Reliability-Failure / IRF2020) will take place in the beautiful city of Funchal/Madeira, in July 2020. Undoubtedly, we expect IRF2020 to be as stimulating and interesting as IRF2018, as evidenced by theexcellent contributions offered in this current event. We look forward to seeing all of you in Madeira in July 2020
