Histological, immunohistochemical, and ultrastructural characterization of cartilage in molly fish (Poecilia sphenops): insights into skeletal adaptations in teleosts
Cartilage is a crucial component of the vertebrate skeletal system, providing structural integrity, flexibility, and adaptive functions across species. In teleost fish, cartilage exhibits significant morphological and functional diversity, providing specialized biomechanical properties essential for aquatic life. This study presents a detailed histological, immunohistochemical, and ultrastructural investigation of cartilage in molly fish (Poecilia sphenops), identifying five distinct types of cartilage: hyaline-cell, scleral, cell-rich hyaline, elastic cell-rich, and matrix-rich hyaline cartilage. Histological staining techniques revealed notable differences in cellular architecture and composition of the extracellular matrix among the cartilage types. Immunohistochemical analysis demonstrated the expression of S100 protein and acetylcholinesterase (Ach), suggesting their involvement in cartilage regulation and maintenance. Endochondral ossification was observed in the head and gill arches. Electron microscopy provided detailed insights into chondrocyte morphology, interactions between cartilage and the perichondrium, and interactions between telocytes and fibroblasts. The findings enhance our understanding of skeletal adaptations in teleost fish, emphasizing the functional diversity of cartilage in aquatic environments. This study contributes to evolutionary biology and may have implications for regenerative medicine and biomaterials research

Exploring Cardiologists’ Perspectives on Wearable ECG Devices: Evidence from an E-focus Group
This study explores the propensity of cardiologists to adopt wearable electrocardiogram (ECG) devices in cardiovascular patient care. Using a qualitative exploratory design, we conducted e-focus group sessions to gather in-depth insights into cardiologists’ perspectives. This approach enabled both individual reflections and group interaction, revealing diverse opinions on the clinical usefulness and integration of wearable ECG technology. The findings revealed varying attitudes toward the use and perceived value of wearable ECG devices. Several key factors were identified as influencing cardiologists’ openness to adopting such technologies, including perceived usefulness, technical accuracy, the reliability of results, the availability of resources within healthcare organizations, the dynamics of the doctor-patient relationship, and individual patient characteristics. The study underscores the importance of a multi-dimensional strategy to support the integration of wearable technologies in cardiovascular care. While wearable ECG devices hold significant potential to improve cardiovascular health monitoring, strategic planning and supportive infrastructure are vital to ensure their effective and sustainable implementation in clinical practice

Triaenophorus nodulosus (Cestoda: Bothriocephalidea) in Northern Pike (Esox lucius) and Pumpkinseed (Lepomis gibbosus) from the Mrežnica River: Pathological Effects of Adult Tapeworms and Intestinal Immune Response
Populations of northern pike (Esox lucius) and pumpkinseed (Lepomis gibbosus) from the Mre & zcaron;nica River were found to be infected with the tapeworm Triaenophorus nodulosus. In both species, the mean intensity of infection was low, suggesting a well-balanced host-parasite relationship. This study investigates pathological changes caused by adult T. nodulosus in its definitive host, the northern pike, and the associated intestinal immune response. The infection had no detectable adverse effects on either the northern pike population or the host's body condition index. Histological examination revealed lesions both at the site of tapeworm attachment and in areas adjacent to the free strobila, involving the lamina propria and submucosa. A moderate, multifocal, ulcerative, and necrotizing enteritis was observed, accompanied by an increased number of mast cells (MCs), which were identified as the predominant immune cells involved in the E. lucius-T. nodulosus interaction. MCs, mostly degranulated, were found in the lamina propria and superficial submucosa at the attachment site. Immunofluorescence revealed a subpopulation of piscidin 1-positive MCs in the same layers, with a higher number at the attachment site compared to unaffected intestinal areas. This represents the first evidence of piscidin 1 involvement in intestinal host defence against cestode infections in teleosts

Le présent article a pour objet d’analyser le phénomène de la migration des mots de la gastronomie italienne dans le lexique français en se concentrant en particulier, d’une part, sur les noms des fromages italiens et, de l’autre, sur leur présence dans la nomenclature des dictionnaires monolingues français et bilingues français - italien/italien - français. Il sera ainsi possible d’observer l’intégration dans la langue-culture française de certains realia italiens et des mots qui les dénomment ainsi que, dans certains cas, les temps et les modes de cette intégration
The Prospects of a Language-Based Argument for Legal Determinacy
This essay is concerned with the issue of determinacy, not in general but in the (specific and local) context of legal practices. I start out by presenting two influential criticisms that has been levelled at the case for content-determinacy of legal contents, as this case is made by HLA Hart and Frederick Schauer. The first criticism holds that the determinacy of law is not primarily conditioned on the meaning of the words of law; rather, it is established by considerations related to the purpose of legal directives. The second criticism claims that the contents of law can only be determinate if certain fundamental factual and normative assumptions about law and its application are widely shared within the legal community; such widespread agreement, however, is (seen to be) lacking in today’s legal world, which is globalized and so encompasses not one but many diverse legal communities. Once these
critical arguments have been introduced, I move to argue that an approach to legal determinacy based on the later development of Wittgenstein’s philosophical account of meaning and normativity is well worth further consideration. For, despite the fact that it cannot conclusively establish whether legal contents are determinate, Wittgenstein’s later philosophy has at least the potential to restructure the terms of the discussion on legal determinacy
Type II diabetes in systemic sclerosis patients: insights from an observational, multicenter study of GIRRCS (Gruppo Italiano di Ricerca in Reumatologia Clinica e Sperimentale)
Objective: To assess the contribution of Systemic sclerosis (SSc)-specific features on type II diabetes mellitus (T2D) in a large cohort of Italian SSc patients. Methods: A total of 613 SSc patients from 11 tertiary Rheumatology Units across Italy were included. All patients underwent full history taking, clinical examination, and relevant laboratory and radiological evaluations. Demographic, socioeconomic, and disease-specific factors were compared between SSc patients with and without T2D. Results: The prevalence of T2D in the study cohort was 7.6%. SSc patients with T2D were significantly older (P < 0.007) and exhibited: higher prevalence of late-stage capillaroscopic pattern (P < 0.001), severe reduction in forced vital capacity (FVC < 50%; P < 0.000), moderate reduction in total lung capacity (TLC 50–69%; P < 0.011), electrocardiographic signs of right ventricular hypertrophy (P < 0.018), higher prevalence of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) confirmed by right heart catheterization (RHC) (P < 0.037) and higher prevalence scleroderma renal crisis (SRC) (P < 0.001); elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) (P < 0.022), and ANA positivity. These patients more frequently assumed angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEi) (P < 0.005) when compared to their non-T2D counterparts, while the use of immunosuppressive therapies was similar between groups. Multivariate analysis identified older age, SRC, and reductions in both TLC and FVC as independent SSc-specific associated factors of T2D. Conclusion: Although the prevalence of T2D in SSc patients is lower than the global estimates reported by the International Federation of Diabetes (IFD), a distinct subgroup of SSc patients with T2D is characterized by unique disease manifestations and complications, including SRC and impaired lung function. These findings underscore the importance of tailored screening and management approaches to address the intersecting metabolic and vascular risks in this population
Coastal Vulnerability Index Assessment Along the Coastline of Casablanca Using Remote Sensing and GIS Techniques
This study explores the potential of Digital Earth Africa (DE Africa) coastlines products for assessing the Coastal Vulnerability Index (CVI) along the Casablanca coastline, Morocco. The analysis integrates remotely sensed shoreline data with elevation, slope, and geomorphological information from ASTER GDEM and geological maps within a GIS environment. Shoreline change metrics, including Shoreline Change Envelope (SCE), Net Shoreline Movement (NSM), Linear Regression Rate (LRR), and End Point Rate (EPR), were used to evaluate erosion trends from 2000 to 2023. Results show that sandy beach areas, particularly those below 12 m elevation, are highly exposed to erosion (up to 1.5 m/yr) and vulnerable to coastal hazards. Approximately 44% and 23% of the study area were classified as having very high and high vulnerability, respectively. The results indicate that remotely sensed data and GIS techniques are valuable and cost-effective tools for multi-scale geo-hazard coastal assessment studies. The study demonstrates that DE Africa products, combined with local landscape data, provide a valuable tool for coastal vulnerability assessment and monitoring in Africa
