In un mondo disegnato al plurale, che valore può avere proporre un discorso sul divino
che, abbandonate le prospettive teologiche identitarie e ricusati gli stereotipi cataloganti dei
media, pensi alla religione come ad un “fatto” da studiare con gli strumenti obiettivi della
ricerca storica? Non potrebbe forse questo discorso essere percepito come strumento di pace,
facilitando un dialogo tra i popoli?
Partendo dalla consapevolezza che un dialogo per essere fruttuoso deve implicare una
autentica reciprocità, nel rispetto del vissuto di ciascuno come “uomo” ma anche delle diverse,
e insieme molteplici e uniche, esperienze religiose, la ricerca storico-religiosa può rivelare la
sua utilità nel rintracciare (con la validità oggettiva e obiettiva propria dell’indagine storica)
ottiche comuni, mostrare analogie e caratteri condivisi, sottolineare le specificità di un mondo
religioso, considerandole come strumento di arricchimento, rileggendole nell’ottica
dell’incontro tra identità diverse, che non è solo confronto né tantomeno scontro
The use of Mediterranean native shrubs for improving the sustainability of urban environments
The Mediterranean Basin is home to one of the highest levels of biodiversity on Earth, with approximately 25,000 plant species. The typical vegetation in this region is predominantly consists of shrubs. Due to their anatomical, morphological, physiological, and biochemical characteristics, these plants can tolerate abiotic stress, particularly drought. Consequently, incorporating them could enhance the sustainability of urban green spaces. However, species native to the Mediterranean Basin are not yet widely represented in green spaces, despite their attractive ornamental traits. To quantify the contribution of Mediterranean native shrubs, a survey was conducted on Italian flora. Using a selection grid, species of potential interest were identified; these species belong to the Mediterranean chorotype and exhibit appealing ornamental characteristics. The overall attributes of these plant species support their ornamental use, owing to their form and the features of their leaves, flowers, or fruits. The investigation identified 369 species that are not currently available in commercial nurseries. The most represented families included Rosaceae, Asteraceae, Fabaceae, Lamiaceae, and Cistaceae. Although the flowering period of each species is relatively short, the blooms of different species are distributed throughout the year. Therefore, by simultaneously utilizing various species, it is possible to ensure a continuous ornamental display
Coexistence of Congenital Aniridia and Ptosis in a Patient with Neurofibromatosis Type I: A Case Report
Introduction: Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is a genetic disorder caused by mutations in the NF1 gene on chromosome 17q11.2. The main ocular manifestations include Lisch nodules, optic pathway gliomas, and plexiform neurofibromas, all of which can potentially impair visual function. Despite the numerous documented ocular manifestations of NF1, congenital aniridia has never been previously reported. Aniridia is a rare congenital disorder primarily associated with mutations in the PAX6 gene, leading to iris hypoplasia, corneal pannus, cataracts, and glaucoma. PAX6-negative aniridia has been described in some cases, suggesting alternative genetic mechanisms. Additionally, a minority of patients with aniridia exhibit ptosis. We present a unique case of a 50-year-old woman with NF1, exhibiting bilateral congenital aniridia and ptosis, without PAX6 mutations. Case Presentation: A 50-year-old woman diagnosed with NF1 presented with bilateral congenital ptosis and aniridia. Genetic analysis confirmed the presence of the NF1 c.4537C>T variant but was negative for PAX6 mutations. Ophthalmological examination revealed total aniridia, cataract, ptosis, and pendular nystagmus. The patient underwent levator muscle resection for ptosis correction and cataract extraction with implantation of an intraocular lens with an iris prosthesis. Histopathological analysis of the levator muscle showed atrophic changes in the absence of neurofibromatous infiltration. Conclusion: This case represents the first documented instance of bilateral congenital aniridia in a patient with NF1. The absence of PAX6 mutations suggests an alternative genetic mechanism or a novel NF1 phenotype. This highlights the importance of thorough ophthalmologic and genetic evaluation in NF1 patients, integrating a multidisciplinary approach to identify atypical phenotypic associations and ensure optimal management
Nano-drug delivery systems integrated with low radiation doses for enhanced therapeutic efficacy in cancer treatment
Background: Precision medicine is an emerging field that includes tumor-targeted delivery and tumor microenvironment. This review explores the synergistic potential of combining nano-drug delivery systems with low radiation doses to achieve optimized therapeutic outcomes, particularly in the context of cancer treatment. Nanoparticle-based drug carriers offer precise and targeted delivery, enhancing the therapeutic index of anticancer agents. The use of lower radiation doses has become a focus in radiation oncology to minimize off-target effects on healthy tissues in palliation treatment with high-target volume lesions. Aim: To conduct a bibliometric review of nanomedicine and glioblastoma (GBM), all relevant studies from the last two decades were included. Methods: The search strategy comprised the keywords "nanomedicine "and "glioblastoma" in the title and/or abstract. All English-language documents from 1 January 2000 to 31 December 2023 were considered for the analysis. R code (version 4.2.0) with R Studio (version 2022.12.0-353) and the Bibliometrix package (version 4.0.1) were used for the analysis. A total of 680 documents were collected. Results: We analyzed the bibliometric features of nanomedicine in glioma. With the limitations of the research, our analysis aims to highlight the increasing interest of researchers in the precision medicine field in GBM treatment and lead us to suggest further studies focusing on the association between nanomedicine and radiotherapy. Conclusion: Due to the poor prognosis associated with GBM, new therapeutic approaches are necessary. There is an increasing interest in precision medicine, which includes nanomedicine and radiotherapy, for GBM treatment. This integration enhances the efficacy of targeted treatments and provides a promising avenue for reducing adverse effects, signifying a notable advancement in precision oncology
Comparison of Single- and Multiport Robot-assisted Approaches in Prostate and Renal Surgery: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
Background and objective: The aim of this systematic review with meta-analysis was to assess the perioperative, functional, and oncological outcomes of single-port (SP) robotic procedures in the surgical management of prostate and renal diseases. Methods: A systematic review was conducted using the MEDLINE and Scopus databases, covering literature published up to December 2024. Studies were included if these compared SP versus multiport (MP) approaches in robot-assisted procedures, specifically radical prostatectomy (RARP), simple prostatectomy (RASP), partial nephrectomy (RAPN), radical nephrectomy (RARN), and pyeloplasty (RAP; PROSPERO registration number: CRD42025616519). Perioperative outcomes were assessed across all procedures. Functional and oncological outcomes were analysed specifically in patients undergoing RARP, while warm ischaemia time (WIT), off-clamp rates, and positive surgical margin rates were evaluated in those undergoing RAPN. Key findings and limitations: A total of 26, three, nine, one, and two studies evaluated RARP, RASP, RAPN, RARN, and RAP, respectively. Compared with MP-RARP, SP-RARP was associated with lower estimated blood loss (standardised mean difference [SMD] = 0.51; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.16-0.87), shorter length of stay (SMD = 1.12; 95% CI: 0.63-1.62), and reduced postoperative pain (SMD = 0.12; 95% CI: 0.04-0.35). The only difference between SP- and MP-RASP was represented by the use of a higher morphine milligram equivalent in the MP group (SMD = 0.59; 95% CI: 0.01-1.16). In patients undergoing RAPN, SP was associated with a significantly higher WIT than MP (SMD = -0.32; 95% CI: -0.58 to -0.06). However, the length of hospital stay (SMD = 0.31; 95% CI: 0.03-0.59) and pain score on postoperative day 1 (SMD = 0.22; 95% CI: 0.01-0.43) were significantly in favour of SP-RAPN. Limitations were the lack of randomised trials, and the across-study heterogeneity in surgical techniques and outcome definitions. Conclusions and clinical implications: Compared with the MP approach, SP robotic surgery offers advantages in terms of reduced postoperative pain and hospital stay. In patients undergoing RARP, functional and oncological outcomes were comparable between the two approaches. In patients undergoing RAPN, the SP approach was associated with a longer WIT
Open-End Winding Triple Rectifier for Wind Turbine with Integrated Energy Storage
An Open-End-Winding Boost Voltage Triple Rectifier is proposed as a simplified and efficient alternative for wind turbines integrating a battery pack. By incorporating six additional power diodes into a conventional three-phase diode rectifier, the system can triple the DC output voltage, enabling the use of standard 400V wind generators even at low rotational speed. A two-level PWM converter is used for stator current control and shaping, as well as for battery regulation. The proposed approach reduces system complexity while achieving efficient power conversion, making it a viable solution for wind energy exploitation. Simulations show improved power quality and reduced complexity compared to traditional PWM rectifiers
“Non sono mai stato maestro di nessuno”: i dibattiti sulla paideia nella letteratura socratica
Per mostrare ai giudici di non essersi mai occupato degli affari pubblici – e dunque per difendersi dall’accusa di corrompere i giovani – il Socrate platonico dichiara di non essere mai stato un διδάσκαλος (Apol. 33a5-6). Una simile affermazione solleva una questione fondamentale: come è possibile parlare di παιδεία con riferimento a qualcuno che si dice «maestro di nessuno»? Per tentare di fornire una risposta è necessario prendere in considerazione altre testimonianze sulla filosofia socratica, in cui il tema della παιδεία – dei suoi metodi e dei suoi effetti – si rivela l’oggetto di un vero e proprio ‘dibattito’ sorto all’interno della cerchia socratica. In apparente contrasto con questa auto-rappresentazione di Socrate nell’Apologia, si trova infatti il dato che di παιδεία hanno scritto quasi tutti i Socratici di prima generazione. È guardando alle loro opere che l’affermazione del Socrate platonico appare non solo paradossale, ma anche in contraddizione con altre fonti. Solo ampliando l’analisi al complesso dei logoi Sokratikoi, tuttavia, alcuni di questi problemi interpretativi possono essere opportunamente inquadrati e affrontati. È quanto il presente contributo si propone di mostrare, prendendo ad esame alcuni passi scelti dagli scritti socratici di Senofonte (sezione II), due frammenti di Eschine di Sfetto (sezione III) e altri passaggi dei dialoghi platonici (sezione IV)
Utility and limitations of homemade videos in differentiating functional seizures from other paroxysmal events: An Italian cohort study
Objectives: The gold standard for distinguishing epileptic seizures (ES) from non-epileptic events is video-EEG
monitoring. In some cases, video alone might suffice, leading to increased utilization of home videos, to support the diagnosis.
This study aimed to assess the feasibility of such practice and its accuracy compared to video-EEG, to identify key signs and symptoms of functional seizure (FS) and to establish if self-reported questionnaires would improve diagnostic accuracy.
Methods:
All consecutive patients ≥14 years presenting to six Italian epilepsy centers with either recurrent paroxysmal events of uncertain nature or with confirmed ES were enrolled. Subjects had to record home videos of the events and to respond to ad-hoc questionnaires. De-identified
data were randomly assigned to pairs of evaluators blinded to the gold standard diagnosis, one epileptologist and
one neurologist, to predict the correct diagnosis in two steps: Step 1 (home video alone) and Step 2 (patient's and witness' questionnaires).
Results:
Ninety-four videos (48 ES; 45 FS; 1 other), obtained from 36 patients, were independently evaluated by the 16 reviewers, providing a total of 188 assessments. Diagnostic accuracy for the whole group was 55.3% among epileptologists and 48.9% among neurologists (p = 0.6892) but was significantly higher in the FS subgroup (71.1%) compared to ES (41.7%) (p = 0.0043).
Significance: Diagnostic accuracy was moderate, without significant differences between epileptologists and neurologists, while it was higher for FS compared to ES. The addition of questionnaires did not improve accuracy. Eye closure for FS and abrupt ending for ES emerged as the only diagnostic signs. Thus, homemade videos have a role in differentiating these disorders.
Plain Language Summary: This study aimed to assess if home videos can distinguish epileptic seizures from functional seizures. Patients over 14 years from six Italian centers recorded videos of their episodes and answered questionnaires.
Data were evaluated by epileptologists and neurologists. Results showed moderate diagnostic accuracy, with higher accuracy for functional seizures compared to epileptic seizures. Key diagnostic signs included eye closure for functional seizures and abrupt endings for epileptic seizures. Questionnaires did not improve accuracy. In conclusion, home videos can help differentiate these events
Le strategie di economia circolare applicate al settore dell’acquacoltura: analisi dello stato dell’arte
Il settore dell’acquacoltura esercita una pressione sulle risorse terrestri,
acquatiche e sugli ecosistemi, minacciando la biodiversità e il cambiamento
climatico. In tale ambito, la Commissione Europea, con la comunicazione
COM/2021/236, ha proposto alcune strategie che potrebbero rendere
l’acquacoltura più sostenibile e competitiva, includendo anche quelle volte
all’economia circolare (EC). Lo scopo di questo studio è di proporre
un’analisi bibliometrica e sistematica della letteratura scientifica relativa alle
pratiche di EC applicate nell’ambito dell’acquacoltura, al fine di identificare
i principali drivers che orientano la transizione circolare del settore. In
particolare, lo studio ha permesso di valutare: a) l’interesse del mondo
accademico verso l’EC in acquacoltura; b) le principali pratiche circolari
applicate nel settore (es., riduzione delle risorse; trattamento dei rifiuti;
etc.); c) i principali principi dell’EC applicati secondo il paradigma delle
4R; d) i principali strumenti di valutazione usati per misurare i potenziali
benefici ambientali dell’EC nel settore. Applicando il protocollo PRISMA,
sono stati identificati 99 articoli pubblicati tra il 2015-2022. I principali
risultati hanno evidenziato un crescente interesse da parte della comunità
scientifica sulle tematiche di EC applicate ai sistemi produttivi nell’ambito
dell’acquacoltura, con particolare riferimento alla riduzione dell’uso di
risorse naturali. Inoltre, i concetti di riciclo e riuso sono tra i principali
principi considerati tra quelli previsti nel paradigma delle 4R. Dall’analisi
si evince anche che il metodo Life Cycle Assessment appare come uno dei
principali strumenti potenzialmente applicabili per misurare le performance
ambientali generate dall’EC in acquacoltura
