THE EFFECT OF METAL NANOPARTICLES ON FORMALDEHYDE EMISSION FROM WOOD BASED MATERIALS
Considering the significant production volume of wood composite materials, the search for ecological solutions to reduce formaldehyde emissions during their pressing and further operation is urgent. The effect of nanoparticles of zinc, aluminium, and iron metals on formaldehyde emission from particleboard samples during their manufacture and subsequent exposure for three weeks is examined in the paper. Nanoparticles of metals were produced by the electro-spark method. In order to determine the priority metal, the method of analysis of hierarchies and search experiments was used. Samples of particleboard were made with the addition of a modified glue based on UF resin. Nanoparticles of the metals Zn, Al, and Fe were used in concentrations of 2% and 8%, respectively, to modify the adhesive resin. Measurements of the level of free formaldehyde were carried out on the third and seventeenth days after the pressing of particleboard samples. The results of experimental studies confirmed the theoretical calculation of priority based on the selected assessment criteria. The best results were observed when zinc was used as a filler at a concentration of 8%
PERCEPTION OF SELECTED TYPES OF FAMILY HOUSES WITH REGARD TO WOOD-BASED STRUCTURES
Sustainable development is the topic associated with economic growth, and it is discussed with the need to find a way how to satisfy requirements of the present generation without compromising the limits of future generations, guaranteeing the balance between economic growth, care for the environment and social well-being. This idea is analysed within different industries including the building industry looking for the possibilities to meet housing demands in accordance with environmental and health requirements. Therefore, the importance of innovation in the building construction material for sustainable growth focusing on wood-based structures represented by eco-innovation and alternatives to brick buildings in this context is still growing. The results of the survey aimed at investigating the perception of respondents towards various construction types of buildings with reference to reverse thinking is presented in the paper. A questionnaire survey was applied allowing to collect information based on the answers of the investigated sample of respondents in Slovakia to various facts regarding their perception of selected construction types of buildings. Subsequently, the obtained facts were compared to find out the influence of construction type on the choice of family houses of the respondents and, paradoxically, the design effect if they did not have more information about the construction type. Based on the results, the design of family houses significantly influences the decision-making of respondents when choosing a family house unless they have more specific information about its construction
PROPOSAL OF A MODEL FOR THE IMPLEMANTATION OF ENVIRONMENTALLY SUSTAINABLE PURCHASING IN WOOD PROCESSING INDUSTRY
Environmentally sustainable purchasing, often called green purchasing, is a method of purchasing with the help of which public and private institutions purchase goods and services with the lowest possible negative impact on the environment and thus replace goods or services that would normally be purchased to perform the same function but with worse impact on the environment. The main objective of the paper is to propose a model of environmentally sustainable purchasing implementation in wood processing companies in Slovakia. The model is compiled based on the evaluation of the survey and the subsequent confirmation of the established hypotheses. The results confirmed that purchasing process companies improve the efficiency of business processes by introducing environmental requirements in their supply chains. Identified relationships will contribute to the implementation of environmentally appropriate purchasing by wood processing companies
ROUGHNESS PARAMETERS OF BIO-BASED COATING APPLIED TO WOOD SURFACES
This research is part of a study to determine the properties of a multilayer waterborne bio-based coating. The liquid system was applied to spruce (Picea abies Karst.), beech (Fagus sylvatica L.), and beech plywood by brush. The influences of the wood substrate structure and the surface characteristics before coating, the surface treatment before coating, the amount of varnish recommended by the manufacturer, and the number of applied layers on the appearance and roughness of the resulting surfaces were analyzed. The roughness was evaluated by the profile amplitude parameters and the material ratio curve parameters for each of the film formation process phases. It was necessary to apply a two-layer coating on all test surfaces to obtain a good appearance. It was also found that the amount of varnish recommended by the manufacturer is inappropriate when applied to beech and beech plywood. The wood substrate structure and its surface characteristics before coating had a determining influence on the roughness parameters in the last phase of the film formation and on the appearance of the varnished surfaces. The treatment before coating had little effect on the final coating parameters. Roughness parameters suitable for evaluating changes in surface profiles for each of the processing phases were proposed
DIFFERENCES IN EMPLOYEE MOTIVATION IN WOOD-PROCESSING ENTERPRISES IN SELECTED COUNTRIES OF CENTRAL EUROPE
The human factor is still an irreplaceable element bearing a competitive advantage in the changed conditions of the wood-processing industry created by Industrial Revolution 4.0. Their sophisticated use and motivation result in the company's higher performance potential, and satisfaction is reflected in higher employee loyalty. The study aims to evaluate the level of motivation of employees working in the wood-processing industry in selected Central European countries (Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Ukraine) from the point of view of groups of motivation factors and then to compare them between countries in terms of gender and age. Differences in the mean values of the compared groups were tested, taking into account the confidence interval. The research was conducted at the beginning of 2021 when Ukraine has not been in a military conflict yet. The result of our findings is the knowledge that the most important motivation factors for Slovak employees in the wood-processing industry are those related to finance and employer-employee relationships. Czech employees also prefer the same motivation factors but place less emphasis on them. Employees of the wood-processing industry in Ukraine prefer motivation factors related to finance and career aspiration. From the point of view of motivation, the input qualitative parameters of raw-wood material and its assessment in forest stands are also important. In globalization, the findings of our study can serve as insights for managers within the wood-processing industry. These insights can be particularly beneficial in enhancing the quality of human resource management, with a particular emphasis on bolstering employee motivation
DETERMINATION OF CHARRING RATE OF OAK WOOD
This paper deals with the determination of selected fire properties of oak wood, i.e., charring rate, which is used in practice to model and investigate the fire causes. Thermal loading was carried out using a measuring apparatus described in Utility Model No. 9373 registered by the Industrial Property Office of the Slovak Republic. Oak wood samples with dimensions of 40 × 50 × 50 mm (l × w × t) were thermally loaded by a heat flux of 15, 20, 25 and 30 kW·m-2, using a ceramic infrared heater. Two methods of determination of the charring rate, based on reaching the temperature of 300 ⁰C in individual depths in a specific time and according to the thickness of the charred layer formed in a time interval of 1800 s measured using a caliper were compared. Both methods confirmed that the charring rate is increasing with increasing thermal loading. The charring rate determined based on the temperature of 300 ⁰C ranged from 0.65 to 0.88 mm·min-1. According to the second method, the charring rate reached values from 0.41 to 0.86 mm·min-1. More accurate results were achieved by applying the method of determination of the charring rate based on the charred layer measured by a caliper. However, the method of determination of the charring rate using thermocouples can be considered less subjective because the temperature is measured automatically, using thermocouples compared to manual measurement using a caliper. The obtained results can be used as input data for computer-supported modeling of indoor fires
PRACTICAL TEACHING OF TERMINOLOGICAL COMPETENCE. ON THE POSSIBILITIES AND LIMITATIONS OF SYSTEMATIC TERMINOLOGY WORK IN TRANSLATION STUDIES TRAINING
The paper deals with the issue of the competence profile of translators of specialized literature and the requirements placed on them by professionals and the labour market. The focus is on terminological competence and its importance for translation activities. The author further discusses the implementation of terminological work in translatology study programmes in the context of the requirements focused on higher education and its connection with practice. The author presents the terminological online database Transterm as one of the outputs of the KEGA project 030UKF-4/2013, "Collaborative development of terminological databases using Web 2.0 technologies". In the context of Slovak higher education, it is a unique database designed for educational purposes and the presentation of terminology outputs. The author suggests possibilities and perspectives of its use not only in higher education but also in the context of professional application
THE ANGLICISM STARTUP FROM THE TRANSLATOR’S PERSPECTIVE
This article focuses on loans from English which appear in specialized, creative-industry-related texts and are widely used in Slovak and Francophone language and cultural contexts. This is despite the continuous efforts of the Délégation générale à la langue française et aux langues de France to create original French terms using linguistic means characteristic of the French language. The author outlines a method of translating loan terms, particularly when translating from Slovak into French, and presents a terminological record for the loan word startup, including various possible equivalents of the term that take the language policy of the target language into account
THE EFFECT OF THE COVID-19 CRISIS ON EMPLOYEE MOTIVATION IN THE ENTERPRISES IN FOREST-BASED SECTOR IN SLOVAKIA
The aim of the paper is to define the level of motivation of employees in the enterprises in the forest-based sector in Slovakia in time, namely before the COVID-19 crisis and after the crisis, and subsequently to determine the most important motivation factors. Data were obtained through quantitative research. The research sample consisted of 920 respondents working in forest enterprises and 1,494 working in wood-processing enterprises. Following the multivariate analysis of dispersion, the employees' motivation level in the enterprises in the forest-based sector was defined and compared. The recognition of an insignificant change in group motivation factors is the result of the research. Another result is the realization that even with the essential motivation factors, there were no significant changes due to the impact of COVID-19. At the same time, they were balanced within the sectors. The contribution of the paper is comparing the level of motivation and motivation factors in the forest-based industry over time and the subsequent possibility of designing managerial models of motivation
THE CURRENT EU FOREIGN LANGUAGE POLICY AND APPROACH TO MULTILINGUALISM DEVELOPMENT IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC
The paper analyses the current foreign language policy of the European Union as a basis for the language policy of the Czech Republic and its approach to the promotion and development of multilingualism. It presents important milestones on the way to the promotion of this phenomenon in education. Multilingualism is perceived here as one of the main goals of the EU language policy, but also as a fundamental goal of the regional language policy, which cannot be realized without a link to the didactics of multilingualism. The focus of the paper is on the characteristics of the language policy of the Czech Republic after 1989 and in particular the current debate related to the major revision of the RVP, which has been in effect in the Czech Republic since 2021. Since the question has been raised whether it makes sense to teach another foreign language as a compulsory language, this issue is reflected upon and arguments are sought to support the current inclusion of another foreign language in the primary school curriculum as a compulsory language. The final recommendations relate in particular to the current situation in foreign language teaching and language policy in the Czech Republic
