Entrepreneurial Process and Social Networks: A Dynamic Perspective
International audienceEntrepreneurship is undoubtedly a social process and creating a firm requires both the mobilization of social networks and the use of social capital. This book addresses the gap that exists between the need to take these factors into consideration and the understanding of how network relationships are developed and transformed across the venturing process. Expert contributions from key scholars in the field illustrate how social networks evolve across entrepreneurial stages, using studies from different regions across the world. Offering a comprehensive understanding, they emphasize the role of formal networks created inside professions and firms. Also examined is the impact of context, including both family and internationally variable institutions, that can help entrepreneurs to access resources and competencies useful for their projects. The book concludes by emphasizing the various research challenges: which theories are useful for our endeavours and which new methods can be used to understand the dynamics of the venturing process? Dynamic and eminently practical, this book will be invaluable to scholars and students studying the entrepreneurial process and the impact of social networks. It will also prove a useful tool in aiding entrepreneurs to optimize the development of their networks and better manage their entrepreneurial processes.<br /
Services advertising: showcase the customer!
International audienceThe research presented in this article focuses on the effectiveness of advertising strategies used in services communication. For this purpose, a quantitative study of 50 magazine advertisements for services in tourism and banking/insurance was conducted with a sample of 249 respondents. This research shows that, for both sectors, certain advertising strategies are more effective than others, and that the most effective advertising strategy is one that showcases the service customer. This strategy is more effective than those highlighting competitive advantage, contact staff, a physical representation of the service or the company’s brand imag

Cooperation versus coordination relations in SME networks: a new view of collective strategy dynamics
International audienceAn alternative way of developing small businesses is to use collective strategies. A certain number of conditions (location, identity, positive contact with partners) form part of the collective strategy, which has, however, trouble in developing. The chapter looks at cooperation and coordination, which shed new light on the development of collection action. Only cooperation will enable creation of new resources (collective or non-collective). Coordination is satisfied with responding to the market and customer expectations without creativity, exchange or research, or using new resources. The importance of coordination links limits the development of new resources or skills and, moreover, collective dynamics. This research introduces into the analysis of cooperation or coordination in collective strategies the necessity to understand certain dynamics and to look at the way actors relate in detail. We have chosen to carry out an in-depth study on a specific case
On the use of qualitative comparative analysis in management

This study shows howQCA extends beyond an empirical technique and how this method offers a genuine formalization of qualitative analysis, which opens new ways of knowledge production in management scholarship. This also study provides important implications for business management research
Training corporate entrepreneurs : an action learning approach
International audienceAlthough training and development is recognized as an important means to nurture corporate entrepreneurs in organizations, extant research has focused primarily on efforts to develop entrepreneurial leaders and nurture business creation in a school or university setting. We report on the findings of an inductive case study of corporate entrepreneurship training in a large multinational corporation. We explore the learning outcomes which participants experienced, and outline how an action learning approach enabled these learning outcomes. Our emergent model of corporate entrepreneurship training is based on an episodic view of training, recognizing that individual, group and situational influences, need to be considered if a more complete understanding of what makes for effective training in this domain is to be developed.<br /
