    Part 1: Sustainable and Industrial Design with TRIZInternational audienceThe relentless pursuit of performance and perfection in manufacturedparts drives us to adopt new manufacturing technologies. In the realm of compositeparts, additive manufacturing offers highly attractive alternatives in termsof manufacturing costs and possibilities. In this study, we propose to explore thismanufacturing process using a Markforged 3D printer, renowned for its expertisein 3D printing composite materials utilizing two extruders. The primary materialinvestigated for the parts is Onyx, which will be reinforced with four types offibers: carbon, glass, High-Strength High-Temperature (HSHT) glass, and Kevlarfibers. The overall objective is to propose a method for analyzing the results andexperiments conducted through a multicriteria optimization approach. The proposedmethod aims to push the limits of optimization by applying inventive designmethods, aiming to overcome the Pareto frontier defined by the experiments. Theapproach followed in the article is based on TRIZ. Solution concepts have beenproposed to enhance the relevance of 3D printing

The mismatch between AI technology, our Stone-Age brains and our Dark-Age institutions jeopardises the ability to identify Truth. It has become possible for small numbers of ‘bad actors’ to corrupt truth and create highly non-linear harm. At the same time, Truth is also dynamic. Facts have a half-life. Metaphorical truths, in the form of the ‘meaning of life’ work of artists, are also constantly evolving. The purpose of the paper is to examine how Society defines and uses dynamic Truth, and from there to conceptualise and demonstrate AI system algorithms capable of establishing context-appropriate, harm-eliminating, actionable ‘truth’. The primary purpose of such AI solutions will be to increase the success rate of innovation attempts. The secondary, albeit bigger, purpose is to try to mitigate the enormous risks that a failure to determine truth in a timely manner poses to Society at large

In this practice, unitization on pallets plays a crucial role in optimizing logistics processes. This research aims to investigate and analyze the challenges and opportunities related to handling and transporting furniture and housewares e-commerce, using the dropshipping model to understand its viability and potential for achieving results. After the analysis, the results of the company can be taken as inspiration for other companies, and the strategies can be replicated, generating a replicable theory. To materialize the research, a case study was carried out in a furniture e-commerce business. Through the proposed study, it was possible to identify all the critical loading and unloading points in a dropshipping system. In this way, this article proposes solutions to mitigate the problems and optimize the respective processes, through management systems and unitization of bulky items. Understanding the details of handling and transport in the e-commerce of furniture and housewares via dropshipping allows companies to develop strategies to optimize operations, improve customer satisfaction, and remain competitive in the market

    Multi-depot Electric Vehicle Routing Problem with Half-Open Routes and Rotations: A Mathematical Formulation

    Part 4: OptimizationInternational audienceThe electrification spreads all around the world with the goal of global net zero emission, especially in transportation sector. As a natural consequence of this phenomenon, many countries and organizations announce their targets relating to the Electric Vehicles (EVs). Although shifting from fossil-fuel towards EVs is a major step forward, there are other precious actions to be taken, one of which is to integrate EVs into scientific studies along with the routing improvements. To this end, we introduce the Multi-Depot Electric Vehicle Routing Problem with Half-Open Routes and Rotations (MDEVRP-HORR) as an extension of the MDEVRP where the rotation refers to set of all routes assigned to an EV. EVs can be recharged at the depots or at the recharging stations along the route with full recharging strategy. The problem is formulated as a 0–1 mixed integer linear program (MILP) and existing procedures are applied to improve the model. The proposed model relaxes the restriction that the departure depot of the first route and arrival depot of the last route of an EV must be the same. It also avoids from creating dummy nodes for recharging stations and replenishment depots. We conducted experimental studies by using small-sized instances from the recent literature due to problem intractability. Out of 36 instances, results reveal that inclusion of half-open routes leads to a cost reduction for 20 instances. Besides, inclusion of both half-open rotations and half-open routes results in cost reduction for 28 instances

    Empirical Evidence of Fake News Awareness Levels Among Students

    Part 2: Enhancing AwarenessInternational audienceThe modern information landscape is flooded with fake and fabricated stories that are designed to mislead. It is especially the proliferation of social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, etc., that have become breeding grounds for these deceptive narratives. The effect is severe and wide-ranging and may impact individuals, organisations, and communities. It is particularly younger people and students who are susceptible to misinformation as they are known for their heavy social media use. One way to combat the spreading of misinformation and its associated negative consequences is to increase fake news awareness levels. In this study, a fake news awareness measuring instrument was developed to assess the awareness and literacy levels of a selected group of university students. The main objective was to determine whether students could recognise fake news stories. The results of the survey also highlighted information on various other aspects associated with fake news, e.g. the spreading of fake news, guidelines on how to educate people about fake news, general behaviour, and news preferences of students. The study revealed that students are indeed in many cases not able to identify whether a news article is fake or real. A set of recommendations is offered to increase the fake news literacy levels of younger social media users

    Lessons Learnt from Using Educational Phishing Materials with UK Primary School Children

    Part 1: Cybersecurity Training and EducationInternational audienceResearch suggests that over a quarter of children aged 11–15 years old have already been a victim of a phishing attack. However, this threat has received limited attention in cybersecurity education aimed at children. Within this topic area this paper reports on the use of CyberSprinters UK government resources to educate school children. To understand the effectiveness of these resources we conducted an action research project with a class of 10–12 years old children. We discuss the experience of delivering the phishing lesson and examine the activities conducted with the children. Our results provide insight into children’s ability to identify typical features of phishing emails, messages, and phone calls. The lessons learnt suggest areas around incorporating children’s voice, cultivating teacher confidence, and engaging parents which could further enhance education

    CAPPIMU: A Composite Activities Dataset for Human Activity Recognition Utilizing Plantar Pressure and IMU Sensors

    Part 1: Pattern RecognitionInternational audienceHuman composite activity recognition enhances smart homes to better understand and respond to user needs, and plays a key role in activity assistance. However, the current public datasets for composite activities are limited in the variety of activities and the number of subjects they include, which hinders a thorough and complete assessment of activity identification methodologies. Regarding these problems, this paper proposes a publicly available dataset named CAPPIMU (Composite Activities with Plantar Pressure and IMU sensors). The dataset consists of 21 activities and two different modal synchronization data, including 15 composite activities and 6 simple activities. These modalities include plantar pressure sensors and IMUs (Inertial Measurement Units) at nine different body locations. Compared with single-modal sensors, multimodal sensors can provide a richer representation of information for activity recognition tasks. Moreover, we conduct a thorough examination of the classification effects exerted by plantar pressure and inertial data from various locations on the recognition of activities, utilizing a selection of widely-recognized deep learning models. The experimental results show that it is possible to classify these 21 household human activities with high accuracy, and the right wrist is found to be the optimal location for activity recognition with single-place IMU sensors

    Part 5: Experiential Learning in Engineering EducationInternational audienceTo co-create value in sustainable communities, it is essential to understand the nature of social issues from multiple perspectives and to communicate and dialogue with people with different values and expertise from a comprehensive and integrated perspective. This study poses the following two research questions 1) What are the key components of an effective online sustainability education workshop that encourages active participation and dialogue? and 2) How can the integration of food and local resources in online workshops enhance participants’ awareness and understanding of sustainability? In this research, we develop an online workshop to connect the world on the theme of food as knowledge acquisition and exchange (in food contexts). We focus on communication and interaction between different actors in the creation of local industries using food and local resources. The aim of this research project, called “GAstroEdu”, is to develop an online workshop for creativity and value co-creation that supports value co-creation among different stakeholders in the region and encourages participants to set their own points of view and learn from them. As an implementation, we present three GAstroEdu projects.
