Scaling and intermittent properties of oceanic and atmospheric pCO2 time series and their difference in a turbulence framework

    No full text
International audienceIn this study, the multiscale dynamics of 38 oceanic and atmospheric pCO2 time series from fixed Eulerian buoys recorded with 3 h resolution are considered, and their multifractal properties are demonstrated. The difference between these time series, the sea surface temperature data and the sea surface salinity data were also studied. These series possess multiscale turbulent-like fluctuations and display scaling properties from 3 h to the annual scale. Scaling exponents are estimated through Fourier analysis, and their average quantities were considered globally for all parameters, as well as for different ecosystems such as coastal shelf, coral reefs and open ocean. Sea surface temperature is the only parameter for which a spectral slope close to 5/3 is found, corresponding to a passive scalar in homogeneous and isotropic turbulence. The other parameters had smaller spectral slopes, from 1.22 to 1.45. By using empirical mode decomposition of the time series, together with generalized Hilbert spectral analysis, the intermittency of the time series was considered in the multifractal framework. Concave moment functions were estimated, and Hurst indices H and intermittency parameters μ were determined in the framework of a lognormal multifractal fit. We obtained mean values of H=0.26 and 0.21, respectively, for oceanic and atmospheric pCO2 time series and μ=0.08 for both. It is the first time that atmospheric and oceanic pCO2 and their difference ΔpCO2 are studied using such an intermittent turbulence framework. The ΔpCO2 time series was shown to possess a power-law scaling with an exponent of β=1.36±0.19

II

    No full text
International audienceWe study the stability of a two-dimensional Lax-Wendroff scheme in a quarter-plane. Following our previous work, we aim here at adapting the energy method in order to study second order extrapolation boundary conditions. We first show on the one-dimensional problem why modifying the energy is a necessity in order to obtain stability estimates. We then study the two-dimensional case and propose a modified energy as well as second order extrapolation boundary and corner conditions in order to maintain second order accuracy and stability of the whole scheme, including near the corner

    No full text
This research report details an exploratory study conducted between September 2018 and July 2022, with eight continuous periods of more than four months in the field. The research approach aims to be comprehensive (with material consisting of archival work that traces the chronology of the archipelago's sporting history, field observations, and interviews). The ethnographic study concerns the establishment of the "sport system" in Mayotte and examines the socio-cultural transitions at work in Mahoran society through the prism of physical and sporting activities. It is structured around two areas of development. The first focuses on the deployment of deterritorialized sports policies and the relationships between actors in the "sports world" (decentralized state actors, local authorities, and associations) grappling with governance. The second axis is based on the socio-cultural dynamics of the healthification of customs and the sportification of society, dynamics that reveal forms of contemporary hygienism oriented towards the normalization of physical behavior, as well as processes of cultural resemantization of practices that were initially utilitarian or recreational. Finally, by highlighting forms of sports socialization and their organizational modalities, the analysis emphasizes that while sport can be a mediator of social belonging in a society undergoing profound changes, it can also be a source of social division.

In this thesis, we introduce a novel approach to efficiently solve large, sparse linear systems arising from the discretization of elliptic partial differential equations (PDEs) using isogeometric analysis (IGA). Our method integrates polynomial extrapolation techniques with geometric multigrid solvers (GMG), significantly enhancing the performance of standard multigrid iterations with classical smoothers. We further extend this approach to nonlinear elliptic problems by employing polynomial-type extrapolation and other acceleration techniques to improve the convergence of fixed-point methods such as the Picard iterative method. This work discusses the design of vector extrapolation methods and provides quadratic convergence results for polynomial extrapolation methods. Through various numerical experiments, we demonstrate that the proposed combination of multigrid solvers and polynomial extrapolation methods significantly accelerates convergence and offers a robust alternative to existing techniques, such as Anderson acceleration. Finally, we show that vector extrapolation methods play an essential role in computing solutions to large-scale nonlinear least-squares problems, and that they generate accurate approximate solutions compared with the Gauss–Newton method based on the application of generalized Krylov subspaces.

D DCGAN Completion and Generation of Broken 3D Objects from a Reduced Datasets

    No full text
International audienceThe generation and completion of 3D objects is a transformative challenge in computer vision. Our study explores Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) for generating and completing fractured 3D scanned objects. Our approach leverages Deep 3D Convolutional GANs (DCGANs) to generate high-quality 3D models and reconstruct incomplete or damaged objects. By training DCGANs on latent vectors, we enable realistic 3D shape generation and completion of partial objects. Additionally, we evaluate the model’s ability to recognize and fill holes of varying sizes and compare its performance against existing methods. Quantitative and qualitative results highlight the effectiveness of the proposed DCGAN in handling small datasets, processing complex 3D data, and generating coherent, biologically plausible structures
