Giffen Behavior, Income Effects and Austrian Price Theory
No full textAustrian price theory is riddled with inconsistencies surrounding the neoclassical income eFect and GiFen behavior. It has sometimes been argued that neither the income eFect nor GiFen behavior exist. This paper first argues that GiFen behavior is possible and can perfectly well be explained within the framework of Austrian price theory in the tradition of Mses. Moreover, it shows that income eFects are real. They are merely an outgrowth of the law of diminishing marginal utility applied to money. The paper also outlines the expenditure approach to income and substitution eFects as an alternative conceptualization that does not require any reference to quantifiable and measurable notions of utility, or an unambiguous and objective notion of real income

Perspectives on self-management of noise intrusion in daily living with hyperacusis
No full textInternational audienceBackground: Previous studies on noise intolerance have recommended further research into the lived experience of hyperacusis in order to better understand the specific needs and strategies used by those affected. We conducted a study with an inductive approach in which individuals with hyperacusis were willing to share their experiences.Objective: To build a theoretical framework, based on the perspective of individuals with hyperacusis, that incorporates the behavior patterns underlying their participation in social contexts.Method: The study population (N=29) included 12 females and 17 males (mean age 45 years) who had severe hyperacusis (mean HQ score 31). Open-ended interviews were conducted, and classic Grounded Theory (GT) was applied for the analysis of collected data.Results: Participants’ main concern was related to intrusive feelings of being trapped by noise. In order to overcome noise intrusion, they expressed the need to alternate between a) moving away from challenging sound environments and b) setting clear goals in social participation. Participants’ ability to take initiative in the auditory scene, and to put aversive bodily sensations into perspective, contributed to their ability to stay in noisy environments. Furthermore, access to restorative environments (e.g. walking in the forest or by the sea) helped them replenish the ability to remain attentive in noisy environments.Conclusions: Considering the needs expressed by patients with hyperacusis contributes to clinical management by identifying the adaptive behaviors underlying social participation. Furthermore, hypotheses about barriers and facilitators to sound exposure can be tested in future research

No full textInternational audience.This article aims to open the debate on the categorization and distribution of dimensions that can play a role inthe engineering process of hybridization of educational devices. The first part allows us to engage inhermeneutical work and more particularly to question what hybridization is called. A second presentshybridization in the service of teaching and learning with a first part dealing with the criteria, dimensions andtypologies of the devices and a second addressing the training engineering processes. After the presentation ofthe methodology which is based on an abductive approach and the T !O model, we present a distribution of thedimensions of the Hy-Sup project and the properties of the dimensions that result from it. The last part poses,given the distribution of the dimensions identified previously, some theoretical and practical projections onwhat could be an interdisciplinary ethics of hybrid teaching and learning for the 21st century
