Article publié sur le site de l'INASInternational audienceThe Bougival Agreement signed between the Government and the Territorial Congress of New Caledonia announces an extension of the autonomy of this overseas territory, even moving towards the status of an associated State. The challenge for the Metropolis is to ensure the preservation of the territorial integrity of this territory in a perspective of economic and political entryism already observed.
Production of enriched protein extracts from cultivated Ulva sp. (Chlorophyta, Ulvales) by high-pressure homogenization
International audienceThe human food sector plays a crucial role in supporting population growth and ensuring human well-being. In the context of global food security, environmental challenges, and the diversification of protein sources, research into new innovative and sustainable protein sources is essential. In Europe, alternative protein sources such as cultivated seaweed are a promising solution, with potential health benefits and increased sustainability. This study investigated the use of high-pressure homogenization (HPH) to obtain protein-enriched fractions from dried biomass of cultivated Ulva sp. The biochemical composition, physical-chemistry (FTIR and granulometric analysis) and the biological activities of the supernatant and residue fractions were evaluated after HPH treatment at pressures of 0, 600, 800, and 1000 bars. Results showed that, depending on their nature, pressure significantly influenced the biochemical composition and separation of compounds into the residue and supernatant, and underlined the potential of HPH to enhance protein recovery from Ulva sp. HPH facilitated separation of ulvan polysaccharides, known for their anti-nutritional effects, and from the protein fraction with high recovery yields of 60.0% protein in the residue. The highest protein content was found in residues at 1000 bars (8.93%) compared to in the crude extract (4.1%). Amino acid analysis revealed that essential amino acids accounted for 42% of total amino acids in the Ulva sp. fraction, with high levels of valine, leucine and methionine. The ulvan fraction (concentration of rhamnose, uronic acids and sulphate groups) was preferentially extracted at 1000 bars, where the supernatants contained 28.6 ± 4.5% of uronic acids, 23.2 ± 4.9% of sulfate groups, and 3.72 ± 0.31% of rhamnose (p< 0.05).These results provide clear evidence that HPH is effective in disrupting the cell wall and facilitating the release of compounds of interest. These results also suggest that the HPH process could position cultivated Ulva sp. as an important potential source of food protein

International audienceIntroduction: The thoracic outlet region, which is largely unknown, can be the site of compression of vascular or nerve structures. In the event of compression, the symptoms (pain, muscle weakness) depend on the type of compression (arterial, venous or nerve) and its severity. Despite its disputed prevalence, venous compression is thought to be more common in physically active individuals aged 15 to 45 who have a job and/or physical activity that involves heavy lifting and repetitive movements (Jones et al., 2019). For diagnostic purposes, photoplethysmography (PPG) can be used to assess these vascular compressions (Chen et al., 2014), particularly to identify alterations in venous drainage of the upper limb during mobilisation. Although commonly used, the reproducibility of this non-invasive optical technique has been little studied in this context, and mainly by analysing scalar data, whereas the nature of the PPG signal requires it to be studied dynamically. In this sense, Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM) analysis would allow for better analysis of PPG signals and more detailed study of their fidelity. The objective of this work is therefore to study the reproducibility of PPG measurements for the assessment of alterations in venous drainage during a dynamic manoeuvre mobilising the upper limbs (UL) of physically active subjects. Methods: Seven healthy, physically active subjects took part in two separate experimental sessions lasting 3 to 7 days. Each session consisted of bilateral PPG recording, allowing quantification of venous return and skin temperature (T°) of the MS during a motor task (Candlestick-Prayer manoeuvre: raising the arms, holding them in position, then returning to the resting position). The standardised placement of the PPG device probes (AngE Phlebo, SOT Medical, Austria), the sequence and duration of the manoeuvre (5'30'') were strictly reproduced in each session. The PPG signals were then smoothed using a 10-second centred moving average, the zero was recalibrated to the baseline signal and finally the readings were normalised to the maximum value. The reproducibility of continuous signals over time was performed using Matlab 2023b software and the spm1d v0.4.7 toolbox. A paired SPM{t} test was used to compare the PPG signals from the two sessions. An alpha threshold of 0.05 was considered significant. Results: The SPM analyses conducted did not reveal any significant difference between the two sessions on the venous drainage continuum, regardless of the time frame considered (phases of the manoeuvre), both on the left side (maximum SPM{t} at 2.6 for a significance threshold of 6.2) and on the right side (maximum SPM{t} at 1.05 for a significance threshold of 6.0). It should be noted that the variability quantified with the SPM{t} value remains generally consistent, although slightly increased when the MS are held in abduction (prayer position).Discussion: Preliminary results appear consistent over time. Although reproducibility is not analysed using standard parameters (e.g. intraclass correlation coefficient), this study is based on a continuous analysis approach that allows statistical analysis of real (non-discrete) signals and shows that the method used allows for consistent assessment of venous drainage between participants and measurement times. Conclusion and outlook: These results support the use of this methodology for clinical and scientific purposes. However, attention must be paid to strict compliance with the tasks involved in the manoeuvre.References:Chen, H., Doornbos, N., Williams, K., & Criado, E. (2014).
International audienceHow can we preserve living heritage, particularly when it involves bodies in motion? In dance, this question intersects with the challenges of building a contemporary repertoire and archiving. Living memory is preserved through the kinetic memory of performers. While bodies archive dance, the art form and its underlying choreographic intentions leave other imprints: writings, scores, recordings, costumes, and more. Les Carnets Bagouet are pioneering in their approach to transmission, preserving the memory of the late choreographer’s work. Traces of all kinds, bearing witness to the context and process of creation or the dissemination of the work, become the focus of archival research. By examining the case of the Centre chorégraphique national de Montpellier (National Choreographic Centre of Montpellier) and the choreographers Dominique Bagouet and Mathilde Monnier, who successively directed it, this article aims to articulate the concept of the “body-archive” within a broader framework of archival reflections, including “the two bodies of the archive”. This approach enables us to consider the archiving of a work not only retrospectively, in the context of reenactments, reappropriations, and reinterpretations, but also during the creation process itself, taking into account the unique challenges of choreographic art and the potential future uses of the archived material.
