Modulation of brain functional connectivity in healthy young adults following GSM radiofrequency exposure: A magnetoencephalography and magnetic resonance imaging study

    No full text
International audienceIn our previous study, we showed that acute exposure to mobile phone radiofrequency electromagnetic fields at 900 MHz modulates the magnetoencephalographic rhythms of alpha band power in healthy participants. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether the scope of this effect extends to the modulation of brain functional connectivity. To this end, healthy young individuals were exposed to Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) signals at afrequency of 900 MHz, modulated at 217 Hz with a maximum power of 2 W. The pre- and post-exposure magnetoencephalographic recordings were normalized and used to calculate brain functional connectivity using the corrected imaginary phase-locking value. Our data revealed significant alterations in intra-hemispheric brain functional connectivity during real GSM-900 MHz exposure compared with the sham session. Specifically, regions in the right hemisphere—including the transverse temporal, entorhinal, insula, and posterior cingulate—were modulated bythe exposure. These findings suggest that GSM radiofrequency electromagnetic fields may influence neural communication and brain functional connectivity, potentially affecting cognitive processes. Further studies are needed to explore the underlying mechanisms and assess the long-term implications for neural health

Allometric equations underestimate woody volumes of large solitary trees outside forests

International audienceLarge solitary trees (LSTs) represent important wood volumes and carbon stocks outside forests. However, quantification remains difficult as most allometric relationships have been developed using trees in forests. Here, we explore the volumetric assessment of aboveground woody biomass of LSTs outside forests and compare them to forest trees. Using terrestrial laser scanning, we captured detailed 3D point clouds of 215 solitary trees for three widely distributed species, i.e. Quercus robur, Tilia sp. & Fraxinus excelsior, across nine cities in temperate Europe. Leaf-off lidar point clouds were processed using a quantitative structure model (QSM) to estimate the aboveground volumes and develop new species-specific allometric volume equations for solitary trees. Our findings show that the woody volumes of LSTs estimated by QSMs are, on average, 83% higher than those predicted by species-specific allometric equations tailored to forest trees of similar height and diameter at breast height. To validate this discrepancy, we applied the same laser scanning and modeling methods to both LSTs and forest trees. Regression analysis confirmed that LSTs have significantly greater woody volumes than forest trees. However, this difference diminishes with increasing height, resulting in converging volumes in the tallest height class. Our results highlight the substantial carbon storage and wood volume potential of LSTs in both urban and rural areas, and underpin the urgent need for dedicated allometric volume equations tailored specifically to large solitary trees

1471MO Adding ipilimumab (IPI) to atezolizumab (ATEZO) plus bevacizumab (BEV) in patients (pts) with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (uHCC) in first-line systemic therapy (1L): PRODIGE 81/FFCD 2101 - TRIPLET HCC

International audienceBackgroundAnti-PD-(L)1 plus anti-VEGF or anti-CTLA-4 are the validated 1L immunotherapies of uHCC based on the results of IMbrave150, HIMALAYA and CheckMate-9DW studies. Here we present the results of the phase-2 of the phase-2/3 TRIPLET-HCC trial comparing ATEZO/BEV/IPI vs ATEZO/BEV (NCT05665348).MethodsThis French, prospective, multicenter, open-label study randomized 1:1 pts to arm A [ATEZO 1200 mg + BEV 15 mg/kg + IPI 1 mg/kg Q3W (4 doses)] or arm B [ATEZO 1200 mg + BEV 15 mg/kg Q3W] for 2 years. Phase-2 was non comparative with a primary endpoint of objective response rate (ORR) ≥ 35% in arm A as assessed per investigator by Recist 1.1 within the first 24 weeks (one-sided α-risk 10%, power 81%, exact binomial method). If positive, the trial will move to phase-3 with overall survival (OS)ResultsA total of 226 pts were randomized and analyzed in modified intention to treat (mITT) between arm A (n=113) and B (n=113) from March 2023 to September 2024 by 36 centers. With a power of 84%, ≥ 35 pts with objective response were needed in arm A to declare phase 2 as positive; only 34 pts showed objective response (30.1%, 80% CI: 24.4-36.3). In arm B, ORR was 27.4%, 80% CI: 22.0-33.5. With a median follow-up of 12.0 (Arm A) vs 12.5 months (mo) (Arm B), OS (median, 95% CI) was 22.6 mo (13.2-notConclusionsThis phase 2 did not meet its primary endpoint. Efficacy seemed to be similar between both arms whereas tolerance tended to be better in arm B. Finally, adding IPI at low dose (1 mg/kg) did not add benefit to ATEZO/BEV. A longer follow-up is needed to better assess the impact of IPI on OS, especially on the rate of long survivors

MYH6 in Congenital Heart Defects: A Genotype–Phenotype Characterization in a French Cohort

    No full text
International audienceCongenital heart defects (CHD) are among the most frequent congenital anomalies and represent a significant source of morbidity and mortality in infants. Both genetic and environmental factors are involved, and variants in the MYH6 are potential major genetic factors. The objective of the present study was to describe cardiac phenotypes in individuals with CHD and MYH6 variants. We included individuals with CHD and a MYH6 variant identified in four French genetics laboratories. Clinical and family data were collected. Of the 29 individuals included, 20 (68.9%) had a principal phenotype of left heart defect: hypoplastic left heart syndrome (n = 11, 37.9%), left heart obstruction at multiple sites (n = 6, 20.7%), and coarctation of aorta (n = 3, 10.3%). Nine individuals (31%) had other CHD, such as tetralogy of Fallot, pulmonary stenosis, and septal defects. Prevalence of persistent left superior vena cava (LSVC) was much higher here (n = 11, 37.9%) than in literature (0.31-5.9%). Most of the 19 MYH6 variants were heterozygous, missenses, and inherited. Family screening demonstrated incomplete penetrance and variable phenotypic expressivity. MYH6 variants are associated with various CHD with a predominance of left heart defects and persistent LSVC. Our findings support broad indication for the molecular screening of MYH6 in CHD-particularly when familial recurrence is uncertain

    No full text
