Cohabitation in Nigeria Tertiary Institutions: A Case Study of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria
Cohabitation in tertiary institutions in Nigeria has continued to attract scholarly attention because of the strong assumption that the phenomenon portents erosion to some of the cultural values highly esteemed in Africa. This study therefore investigates cohabitation among undergraduate students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Nigeria. The study was a descriptive survey research and a total of 250 undergraduates were randomly sampled from the six faculties of the university. The research instrument used for study was a 20 item questionnaire that sought information on reasons for cohabitation among the respondents. The instrument used was adjudged adequate and valid by sociologists and female specialists in women studies. Both frequency and percentage were used to analyse the data collected. Some of the major findings from the study reveal that between 25% and 50% of the university students engage in the act of cohabitation, implying that cohabitation is a menace among the university students. Also, 71.8% of the respondents agreed that cohabitation contributes to high level of moral decadence in the society, thus confirming that cohabitation have negative impact on students‟ moral development and invariably their health and academic development. Based on these findings, it was suggested that the menace could be curbed if parents monitor regularly their wards in school while the university authority should provide adequate hostel accommodation for students who live off campus, and of course proper counseling on marital issues should be provided for the vulnerable undergraduate youths
Major Changes in the Attitude of Women Characters in the Short Stories of Shashi Deshpande
It is a known fact that an individual living in society is directly or indirectly influenced by its norms and regulations. For women, these norms and regulations are generally a product of social conditioning. Women in society are considered as secondary citizen. They have inferior status in society. Shashi Deshpande is a well known name in Indian English literature. She writes about the women’s conditions in society. In her short-stories, she very beautifully describes women characters and their suppressed feelings. Her characters want to break down social norms which regulate them to a defined position. How she deals with the middle class women’s frustrations, turmoil and their silences? What her protagonists do to get salvation? What kind of urge and demand they have to identify their own real beings. These are the questions which are tried to answer in this research paper entitled “Major Changes in the Attitude of Women Characters in the Short Stories of Shashi Deshpande”. And effort has therefore been made in this research paper to show some light on women’s inner feelings and their changed attitude towards their problems in society
Social Analysis of the Living Conditions of the Elderly in Selected Communities in Edo Central Senatorial District, Edo state
The elderly in Nigeria are denied resources by formal institutions towards retirement and comfort to life in advanced stage of their existence. Yet, they are the custodians of culture and tradition, mediators during conflict resolution and contributors in enforcing peace in their various communities. This study therefore examined the general living conditions of the elderly, factors affecting their living conditions as well as proffering strategies to improve their living conditions in central senatorial district, Edo State, Nigeria. Purposive sampling technique was adopted and a structured questionnaire was administered to 250 respondents from five (5) communities: The Five major communities were randomly selected from each of the five Local government council of Edo central senatorial district. Data were analyzed with both descriptive and inferential statistics using the Chi-square analysis. The study showed that 42% of the respondents are in the prime elderly (70-74) age group. Farming and trading constitute the most important occupations engaged by the elderly with about 67.9%. The result of the chi-square analysis (x2) showed that factors such as Social factors such as income, feeding, housing and nature of support of the elderly are the major factors affecting the living conditions of the elderly in Edo central senatorial district. Based on the above the study recommends that there is need for health insurance schemes for the elderly, there is also need for stakeholders to design policies that will ensure the elderly are financially secured in their old age so as to improve their standard of living
SEVEN PERSONAL QUALITIES OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER AND LINKING SUPPORT WITH THEIR STUDENT
Luis – Fe Gomez (LFG) Diamantina National High School, where the researcher assigned as Practical Research and Language Teacher, Qualities of a teacher is one of the key arenas in the holistic development of the student. Burning its torch of discipline and excellence, the school believes that education plays a vital role in the development of human capital which is linked to individual‘s well–being and opportunities for better living. As far as the researcher observation there is a need in assessing their proper behavior because at their age critical changes in their intellectual and emotional growth. But, not all teachers are successful in building relationships with students. Five teachers who have been conferred with the Discipline and Excellence Test (DET) in Senior High School Teacher of LFG-Diamantina National High School These DET test were selected as they are committed teachers who have consistently demonstrated outstanding performance over a long period of time with impactful achievements reflected in students‘ performance and in their Individual Performance Commitment and Review Form. One of the criteria for the DET was about their care and concern for students‘ needs in arranging learning activities to improve students‘ performance and development. The DET test shared good practices and memorable anecdotes with a focus on the strategies used in their classroom teaching as well as for building relationship with their students. The sharing was recorded and transcribed for analysis. Luis Fe Gomez Diamantina National High School served and believed in the motto TayoParaSaMaunladNaDiamantinaNHS and center for Discipline and Excellence in the Division of Isabela where teacher has a vital role in teaching and learning process. From the Legal Bases of the teacher in Philippine constitution it was stated that Teachers are persons in authority when in lawful discharge of duties and responsibilities … shall therefore be accorded due respect and protection (Commonwealth Act No. 578) and Teachers shall be given opportunity to choose career alternatives for advancements.
The Benefit of Using Multimedia Projector in English Language Teaching Classroom
The research article presents the benefit of using multimedia projector by teachers of English language. In the era of modern science and technology, the latest portion has been added in language teaching. With the progress of technology, new innovations are being brought up in language teaching. At present, language teachers are using multimedia projector to facilitate the teaching process. Along with text books, language teachers are likely to use pictures, audio clips, videos, power point slides, in language classrooms by the multimedia projector. The purpose of this study is to investigate the benefits that the language teachers as well as the learners get in using multimedia projector in teaching English language. A qualitative process has been followed to collect the data of this research. It has been found that the use of multimedia projector supports both the teacher and the students in learning language skills. As well as this research shows that by using the relevant audio-visual substance how the teachers overcome from teacher oriented classrooms
CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS AMONG SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND ITS EFFECT IN THEIR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE
The research was conducted to identify the Critical Thinking Skills and Academic Performance of the Senior High School aside from this it is the most important goal of schooling is to learn. And learning, as numerous educators have repeatedly pointed out, is a consequence of thinking. The purpose of the research is to determine the level of critical thinking skills of the respondents in the SHS of LFG-DNHS, thus the Pearson-R Correlation will use and purposive sampling to select the respondents. This method includes giving standardized critical thinking test to determine the profile, the scores and the level of critical thinking of the respondents. The respondents include a total of 45 senior high school students. On the basis of the aforementioned findings of the study, the following conclusions were drawn: The researcher found the profile of the respondent in their age, gender, religion, civil status, source of information in reading. Among the Area of Academic Performance and Mean of the 45 respondents it has a weighted mean of 3.35; the level of academic performance of 45 SHS students covering Core, Applied and Specialized (marked as 3.35 in the DepEd Grading System) with verbal interpretation of AVERAGE. In this regards, it shows that SHS subjects need to infuse critical thinking skills because they need to think critically or to understand first the problem before they can solve or make a decision especially they are future hope of the nation; The critical thinking skills levels of the respondents are not fully developed yet. They got a mean score of 28.01 that belongs to Beginning Thinker in the Critical Thinking Skills Test using the Critical Thinking Test. The test had proven that they did not attain the appropriate critical thinking level skills of a students enrolled in a General Academic Strand and Tech-Voc in the senior high school level; There is a significant relationship between critical thinking skills and the academic performance of the GAS and Tech-Voc Strand students which is -0.13534233 with a verbal interpretation of SLIGHT CORRELATION. It indicates that there is a need of infusing and developing critical thinking skills of the students as they move from one level to another and in facing the 21st Century Skills and the Outcomes-Based Education in the Senior High School Level
IDENTIFIED FACTORS AFFECTING THE INTEREST OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL PARENTS IN ATTENDING SCHOOL ACTIVITIES: BASIS FOR SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN
The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) in LFG Diamantina National High School has recorded low participation rate during homeroom meetings. This is evident in one PTA Meeting for a Grade 11 class wherein only 7 parents out of 21 attended despite the invitation given to each of them. Aside from general assembly some parents are not participative into school activities such as Brigada Eskwela where their involvement is highly needed. A total of ninety-three (93) parents participated in as respondents in this study: 41 from Grade 11 and 52 from Grade 12. This is the total number of SHS enrolment for this academic year. Mean and Pearson R is the main statistical used by the researcher. The researcher proved that IDENTIFIED FACTORS AFFECTING THE INTEREST OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL PARENTS IN ATTENDING SCHOOL ACTIVITIES: BASIS FOR SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN strongly affects the Work-Related Factors, Family-Related Factors, Socio-Economic Factors, Child-Related Factors, School-Related Factors. The interest and support gathered by the respondents regarding interest of SHS parents has something to do with their high or low scores in the questionnaire test. The more interest or support of the parents they gathered, the higher the score and vice versa. With regards to the extension of the five factors it is strongly believed that in accomplishing satisfactory acceptance of the identified Factors Affecting the Interest of Senior High School Parents in Attending School Activities: Basis for School Improvement Plan the parents and teachers must have a smooth relationship for them to accomplish responsibility in the effective way. This study highly recommends that the parents‘ involvement should attend more school activities regarding on the improvement of their children
Subjugation, Caste Discrimination and Quest for Identity: A Critical Dalit Response to Laxman Bapu Mane’s Upara: An Outsider
Dalit literature is the literature of protest against the established system which is based on inequality and injustice. Laxman Bapu Mane, a social activist and a Maratha writer, has occupied a distinct position in Indian Dalit Literature. His autobiography Upara: An Outcaste is considered as a mile stone in Maratha Dalit literature and he received Sahitya Academi Award in 1981and Padma Shree in 2009 for this autobiography.Through this autobiography, he has presented the reflection of traumas and wounded psyche of Dalit people. In his life, he has faced extreme caste discrimination and experiences exploitation, humiliation and starvation of his community. He reveals that the Indian society is caste ridden where they are dehumanized, tortured and abhorred by the high caste Hindus. The present paper aims to show the wretched condition of Dalit people and at the same time it aims to emphasis on the changing condition of Dalit people and their changing point of view due to the impact of education on them. The Dalit academia that expanded vastly on the horizon of India after 1970s challenges the conventional views of caste, religion and god and radically questions the exclusions of Dalits from power, knowledge, culture and society

Additional of meaning that was connected to real life, Borrowed from the whole meaning, Jejemon, Similarity in a song, Replaced of vowels, Creating of new words, Shortened, Old words that has new meaning this mean that Filipino Language is dynamic. Based on the research findings, the researcher determine the most effective way of creating words on social networking sites. Seven (7) most commonly used methods of generating words abbreviation (49) rank number 1, followed by borrowed word from different language with (31) rank 2 , word multiplication with (30 rank 3), word invention with (28) rank 4, likeness to personality (21) rank 5, add word from the original text with (20) rank 6, Jejemons spelling (35) rank 7
