    No full text

International audienceBackground : Although non-pharmacological therapies for knee osteoarthritis (OA) are essential pillars of care, they are often poorly considered and inconsistently applied. Objectives : Under the umbrella of the French Society of Rheumatology (SFR) and the French Society of Physcal Medicine and Rehabilitation (SOFMER), we aimed to establish consensual recommendations for the non-pharmacological management of people with knee OA.Methods : A group of fellows performed a systematic literature review on the efficacy and safety of non-phamacological modalities (up to October 2021). The fellows then took part in discussions with a multidiscipliary group of experts to draft a list of recommendations. The list was then submitted to an independent reading committee who rated their level of agreement with each recommendation. Each recommendation was assigned a strength of recommendation and a level of evidence. Results : Five general principles were unanimously accepted : (A) the need to combine non-pharmacological and pharmacological measures ; (B) the need for personalized management ; (C) the need to promote adherence ; (D) the need for adapted physical activity ; and (E) the need for person-centered education. Specific positive or negative recommendations were defined for 11 modalities : (1) unloading knee brace ; (2) kinesio-taping or knee sleeves ;(3) shoes and/or insoles ; (4) using a cane ; (5) physical exercise program ; (6) joint mobilization ; (7) electro- or thermo-therapy ; (8) acupuncture ; (9) weight loss ; (10) thermal spa therapy ; and (11) workplace accommodation. Conclusions : These SFR/SOFMER recommendations provide important and consensual knowledge to assist health professionals in decision-making for non-pharmacological treatments for knee OA

Cross ML for Io(H)T Network Traffic Classification: A New Approach Towards Standardization

    No full text
International audienceThe rapid proliferation of the Internet of Things (IoT) underscores the need for robust network security, especially in sectors like healthcare. While numerous datasets support cyber-attack detection in the IoT space, there remains a challenge due to the limited availability of publicly accessible data specific to certain sectors, like healthcare. This study delves into Cross-Machine Learning (Cross-ML), a novel approach to leveraging data from multiple sources to enhance Machine Learning (ML)-based Network Intrusion Detection Systems (NIDS). We introduce a well-defined framework for Cross-ML and demonstrate its application across three key datasets: ToN- IoT, X-IIoTID, and UNSWNB15. Preliminary results, when juxtaposed with analogous studies, reveal significant insights. The study also indicates that relying on a small number of features might be limiting for ML-based NIDS, suggesting an exploration of more comprehensive datasets, like those with NetFlow features, for more conclusive results. This research not only underscores the potential of CrossML in IoT network security but also emphasizes areas of further exploration to solidify its application

Assessment of microbial consortia for the degradation of recalcitrant volatile compounds (alkanes)

International audienceContinuously seeking the improvement of environmental protection, the limitation of exhaust emissions containing a complex mixture of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) is of significance for the manufacturing sector and more accurately in tire industry. It has been highlighted that biofiltration is able to remove both hydrophilic and hydrophobic compounds within a single pilot unit (Malhautier et al., 2021).Nevertheless, in order to improve biofilter efficiency and achieve recalcitrant compounds removal levels, some operating parameters need to be adjusted. The biofilter seeding strategy is a critical parameter in ensuring successful process operation (Cabrol and Malhautier, 2011). Consequently, determining the biofilter seeding strategy is crucial to improve the degradation performance of recalcitrant compounds and secure the conditions for effective deployment of the technology at different sites.Typically, inocula have been sourced from wastewater treatment plants or existing biofilters. Activated sludge from wastewater plants is commonly employed as it contains a large variety of rugged organisms with the potential ability to degrade a wide variety of compounds. From an industrial point of view, the choice of activated sludge as an inoculum presents also advantages due to the ease of implementation and low operational costs (Muñoz et al., 2015). The microbial inoculum can be adapted to the target gas compounds prior to biofilter seeding, according to different methods of enrichment in relation to the target compounds (Kennes and Veiga, 2004). Another technique can be based on the use of pure bacterial strains that have been characterized for their ability to degrade a target compound. However, this approach may be successful only if the species used are ecologically viable and active in the bioreactors. It should be stressed that suitable indigenous inoculum may be present within biofilter organic-packing materials such as compost or wood bark (Cabrol and Malhautier, 2011).The aim of this study is therefore to assess the benefits of using commercial consortia on the one hand, and acclimatized or non-acclimatized activated sludge on the other, to improve the degradation performance of recalcitrant compounds present in the gases to be treated. Alkanes have been chosen as model molecules because frequently detected in tire manufacturing

International audiencePolylactic acid (PLA) composites reinforced with 10 wt% of flax (FF) or bamboo (BF) fibers were prepared via an internal mixer and/or twin-screw extrusion. Alkali pretreated fibers were soaked in silane to improve adhesion between fibers and matrix. 0.8 wt% of Joncryl™, a grafted copolymer acting as PLA chain extender, was also used alone or in combination with silane treatment of fibers to improve interfacial adhesion. The influence of silane treatment and/or Joncryl on the composite materials on mechanical, thermal and thermomechanical properties of materials processed through injection molding was investigated. Improved adhesion of the fibers to the matrix was shown using a scanning electron microscope. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy indicated that chemical bonds were formed between the silane coupling agent and fibers. X-ray Photo-electron Spectroscopy confirmed that fibers and silane derivatives were effectively coupled. XPS also highlighted that silane coupling agent reacted in higher amounts on bamboo than flax fibers, probably due to a higher amount of lignin in the case of bamboo fibers. Thermogravimetric analyses indicated that silane-treated flax and bamboo increased the thermal stability of the corresponding composites (PLA-SFF and PLA-SFB) compared to non-treated fiber composites. The incorporation of Joncryl alone entailed a degradation of the thermal stability of the corresponding composites (PLAJ-FF and PLAJ-FB) but enhanced the PLA/fibers interfacial adhesion. The combination of Joncryl and silane treatment resulted in strong improvements of thermal stability and interfacial adhesion for the PLAJ-SFF and PLAJ-SBF composites. Increase in tensile moduli and decrease in tensile strengths with the incorporation of the pristine fibers were noted. For silane-treated fibers, the tensile modulus and the strength of the corresponding composites were improved when adding Joncryl alone or in combination with silane. From also rheological and molar weight measurements, it could be concluded that Joncryl acts both as PLA chain extender and coupling agent

An agent-based simulation study on the effect of ambulance dispatch policies on patient mortality in hospital systems: a disaster response test case

    No full text
International audienceEmergency management is the effective planning and execution of resources to reduce mortality rates while protecting critical assets. This study examines the impact of emergency strategy policies on an emergency scenario. A test case was examined where a mobile field hospital (MFH) supported a regional hospital (RH) during a post-disaster incident. The strategy of this study involves the use of agent-based modelling and simulation (ABMS) (NetLogo 6.3.0), which involves the representation of interacting agents within a system defined by simple rules and goals. Model data were sampled and analysed using BehaviorSpace, Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), and Python (Pandas Tools). The validation was carried out using a scenario-based tabletop role-playing game (tRPG). The strategy with MFH as a support system produced better results. However, the validation results highlighted the challenge of using RPG in ABM validation. This study demonstrated the value and promise of ABMS and tRPG techniques

    No full text
Numerous performance indicators exist in sport and health (recovery, rehabilitation, etc.), allowing us to characterize different sporting and therapeutic criteria. These different types of performance generally depend on the workload (or rehabilitation) undergone by athletes or patients. In recent years, many applications of machine learning to sport and health have been proposed.Predicting or even explaining performance based on workload data could help optimize training or therapy. In this context, the management of missing data and the articulation between load types and the various performance indicators considered represent the 2 issues addressed in this manuscript through 4 applications. The first 2 concern the management of missing data through uncertain modeling performed on (i) highly incomplete professional soccer data and (ii) artificially noisy COVID-19 data. For these 2 contributions, we have combined credibilistic uncertainty models, based on the theory of belief functions, with various imputation methods adapted to the chronological context of training/matches and therapies.Once the missing data had been imputed in the form of belief functions, the credibilistic k nearest-neighbor model adapted to regression was used to take advantage of the uncertain uncertainty patterns associated with the missing data. In the context of predicting performance in handball matches as a function of past workloads, multi-output regression models are used to simultaneously predict 7 athletic and technical performance indicators. The final application concerns the rehabilitation of post-stroke patients who have partially lost the use of one arm. In order to detect patients not responding to therapy, the problem of predicting different rehabilitation criteria has enabled the various contributions of this manuscript (credibilistic imputation of missing data and multiscore regression for the simultaneous prediction of different performance indicators.

    No full text
