    Palladium-Catalyzed C-H Functionalization and Flame-Retardant Properties of Isophosphinolines

    International audienceC-H activation is a powerful strategy for forming C-C bonds without the need for prefunctionalization. In this paper, we present a general, direct, and regioselective palladium-catalyzed functionalization of a phosphorus heterocycle, 2-phenyl-1H-isophosphinoline 2-oxide. The mild reaction conditions enabled the introduction of various functionalized alkenes. Moreover, the flame-retardant properties of selected products clearly highlighted the synergy between the phosphine oxide and another heteroatom-based group, even in the condensed phase

    International audienceLa qualité de l’air intérieur des salles de sport est encore peu connue et étudiée, notamment en France,en comparaison de celle des logements et d’autres Etablissements Recevant du Public (ERP). Pourtant,avec le nombre croissant d’amateurs de sport, les installations sportives intérieures ont connu une forteaugmentation au cours des dernières décennies. Avec des niveaux de pollution qui peuvent être plusélevés à l’intérieur qu’à l’extérieur, l’activité physique intense pratiquée dans les salles de sport peutcontribuer à augmenter le risque d’exposition aux contaminants en suspension dans l’air.Le projet QAI-SPORT a pour objectif de caractériser l’exposition aux polluants organiques volatils (COV)et semi-volatils (COSV) et aux contaminants microbiologiques (moisissures, virus et bactéries) autravers de l’étude de 10 de salles de sport d’activités différentes (fitness, dojos, salles de motricité pourjeunes enfants)

    Predicting the Impact of Mobile Field Hospital Deployment in Reducing Patients Mean Wait Times in Emergency Departments: An Agent-Based Simulation Approach

    International audienceMean wait time (MWT) in emergency departments refer to the average time patients spend undergoingevaluation, or treatment at each stage, which can be significantly affected by sudden onsets of adisaster. Agent-based modelling (ABM) is a computational technique that simulates the interactions andbehaviours of individual agents in a defined environment and enables the study of complex systems byobserving the emergent outcomes of agent-agent and agent-environment interactions. This studyexamines the capability of ABMs in assessing the impact of response operations on hospital emergencydepartments mean wait time in a post-explosion scenario for an oil and gas industry. The methodologyof this study involves the use of an agent-based modelling and simulation tool (NetLogo 6.3.0) torepresent the interaction of agents within an emergency response system defined by rules, goals anddecision protocols. The response policy includes both a traditional approach and a collaborativeintervention through the use of a mobile field hospital (MFH). The dataset was generated, sampled andanalysed using the BehaviorSpace and Pandas tools, respectively. The results of the simulation studyshow that the strategic use of MFH for a collaborative response resulted in lower MWT, indicating highereffectiveness and efficiency of response efforts. This study highlights the need to generate potentialresults and test how response strategies might influence emergency department wait times anddemonstrates the capability of simulation techniques in modelling complex systems.     Chlorella Vulgaris as a Promising Feedstock for Biobased Biodegradable Plastics

    International audienceGlobal warming and microplastic pollution are increasingly recognized as critical issues associated with the use of fossil fuels andimproper management of plastic end-of-life. In this context, autotrophic microalgae cultivated under sunlight emerged as apromising alternative for producing substrates that could replace petroleum-based products. Within the SEALIVE and Nenu2PHArEuropean projects, we focused on the cultivation of Chlorella vulgaris to provide an alternative feedstock for the production ofbiodegradable plastics, such as polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) and thermoplastic starch (TPS).First, appropriately selected C. vulgaris strains were cultivated in 180-liter flat panel airlift reactors under natural light conditions. Akey step involved inducing nitrogen deprivation in the algae, leading to an accumulation of starch granules. A carbohydrate-richfraction, primarily composed of these starch granules, was then isolated and purified thanks to a green waterborne process.Under the Sealive project, this starch fraction was mixed with glycerol to prepare TPS. Conversely, in the Nenu2PHAr project, thestarch underwent enzymatic saccharification to produce a glucose syrup. This syrup then served as a substrate for bacteria able toaccumulate PHA. Additionally, the residual pigment fraction from this process was utilized as a fluorescent marker, enhancing thesorting efficiency of new bioplastic blends for recycling purpose.While biobased and biodegradable plastics like TPS and PHAs hold great potential for future markets, the complete valorization of allfractions, including those rich in proteins for use in nutraceuticals and animal feed, remains an area open for further improvementand implementation

    Towards the Reuse of Fire Retarded Polyamide 12 for Laser Sintering

    International audienceThe control of powder aging during Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) processing is one of the challenges to be overcome for the implementation of this technique in serial production. Aging phenomena, because of the elevated temperatures and long processing times, need to be considered when a fraction of the polymer powders present in the build chamber and not used to manufacture the parts are reused at various times. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of successive reuse of blends of pure Polyamide 12 and its blends with two types of flame retardants (FR): ammonium polyphosphate (APP) and zinc borate (ZB). The composition of the blends was 70/30 (wt/wt) PA 12/FR. Four successive processing stages have been carried out by collecting the remaining powder blend each time. The powders were re-used using the same processing parameters after sieving. DSC measurements showed that the incorporation of FRs entailed a reduction in the processing window up to 4 °C; nevertheless, no further reduction was noted after aging. The TGA curves of aged blends of powders were also similar for pure PA 12 and PA 12 with FR. In addition, initial and reused powders presented a higher degree of crystallinity than the specimens processed from the powders. The heterogeneous character of the PA 12 after LS processing or reprocessing was shown through Pyrolysis Combustion Flow Calorimetry (PCFC) and cone calorimeter (CC) tests. FTIR analysis also showed that post-condensation reactions have occurred. The mode of action of the flame retardants was clearly seen on HRR curves at both tests. The first reuses of PA 12 powders entailed a significant reduction in time to ignition at the cone calorimeter (150 for the initial material to around 90 s for the reused material), indicating the formation of short polymer chains. Only in the case of zinc borate was it noticed that re-used powder was detrimental to the fire performance because of a strong increase in the value of pHRR (between 163 and 220 kW/m2 for reused material instead of 125 kW/m2 for the initial one)

    Effectiveness of a pain neuroscience education programme on the physical activity of patients with chronic low back pain compared with a standard back school programme: protocol for a randomised controlled study (END-LC)

    International audienceIntroduction Education is recognised as an effective and necessary approach in chronic low back pain. Nevertheless, data regarding the effectiveness of education in promoting physical activity in the medium term or long term are still limited, as are the factors that could lead to successful outcomes. Our study aims to assess the effectiveness of a pain neuroscience education programme compared with traditional back school on physical activity 3 months and 1 year after educational sessions coupled with a multidisciplinary rehabilitation programme. Additionally, we seek to evaluate the effects of these educational interventions on various factors, including pain intensity and psychobehavioural factors. Finally, our goal is to identify the determinants of success in educational sessions combined with the rehabilitation programme. Methods and analysis The study will involve 82 adults with chronic low back pain. It will be a monocentric, open, controlled, randomised, superiority trial with two parallel arms: an experimental group, ‘pain neuroscience education’, and a control group, ‘back school’. The primary outcome is the average number of steps taken at home over a week, measured by an actigraph. Secondary outcomes include behavioural assessments. Descriptive and inferential analysis will be conducted. Multivariate modelling will be performed using actimetric data and data from the primary and secondary outcomes. Ethics and dissemination The Committee for Personal Protection of Ile de France VII (CPP) gave a favourable opinion on 22 June 2023 (National number: 2023-A00346-39). The study was previously registered with the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (IDRCB: 2023-A00346-39). Participants signed an informed consent during the inclusion visit. This protocol is the version submitted to the CPP entitled ‘Protocol Version N°1 of 03/29/2023’. The results of the study will be presented nationally and internationally through conferences and publications. Trial registration number NCT05840302
