International audienceHYSICAL ACTIVITIES OF OLDER WOMEN: GENDERED ASSIGNMENTS AND INEQUALITIES Short title: Physical activities of older womenAbstractThe World Health Organisation [WHO] recommends regular physical activity as part of the process of ageing well. This injunction has led us to examine the physical activity and sporting trajectories of women aged 60 and over, focusing on gendered assignments and inequalities. The study is based on a life-course approach and gender norms. Based on a mixed survey including a questionnaire of 469 respondents aged 60 and over and 67 semistructured interviews, the analysis identifies four typical trajectories: 'continuers', 'moderate practitioners or non-practitioners', 'late commitments' and 'thwarted commitments'. The "late commitment" profile is dominated by women. The results show gender differences in relationships with the body and physical activity, influenced by early socialisation, motivations and life transitions. The study looks at how activities can be reorganised as people grow older, taking into account the inequalities and dispositions incorporated by gender.L'Organisation mondiale de la santé (OMS) OMS recommande une pratique régulière d'activité physique dans la perspective du bien vieillir (OMS).

International audienceAiming at improved breast imaging, this contribu- tion explores several scenarios for segmenting and estimating the distribution of electromagnetic (EM) and/or ultrasonic (US) parameters within breast tissue. A two-fold approach is adopted, leveraging Transfer Learning (TL) through Bayesian Neural Networks (BNN); the first objective is to consistently enhance imaging results, and the second is to establish a novel framework for data fusion transfer learning. The methodological approach is tailored for Artificial, Convolutional, and Bayesian Neural Networks, showcasing its effectiveness through the analysis of electromagnetic (EM) and ultrasonic (US) datasets computed in reliable scenarios, with a focus on heterogeneously dense and extremely dense breasts. Furthermore, a novel transfer learning Bayesian data fusion framework incorporating multi-frequency data exploits the complementary nature of EM low-resolution and US high-resolution imaging. By enhancing the fusion of EM and US data, this framework leads to better-contrasted zones in the images and is shown to outperform the most common transfer learning approaches.

No full text

An efficient and compact supply for electroactive polymers

International audienceNew trends in electroactive-polymers (EAP) based devices for soft actuators and for electrocaloric cooling revive studies on compact, efficient, reversible and low power supply. High electrode resistance, high voltage and small capacitance of EAPs represent a major hindrance for an efficient charge/discharge. Because Joule losses in EAP are entwined with the voltage profile of the converter, we study an inductor based coupling, focusing on a multistep voltage profile produced by a Solid-State Marx Modulator. The energy stored in the inductor, its volume, and the efficiency of the charge/discharge process are studied as a function of the number of steps and of the RLC damping factor. Furthermore, to avoid detrimental current surge related to resonance, a pre and post charge protocol are implemented. The tradeoff between inductor size, efficiency and the number of steps is discussed using an analytical model, and through comparison with measurements performed using a specifically developed Solid-State Marx Modulator. This study shows that the multistep charge of EAPs represents an efficient tool for tackling the Joule losses vs. volume reduction issue offering a key tool to guide the design of the new generation of EAP based devices.

Magnetite Texture and Geochemistry in the Takab Ore Deposit (NW Iran): Implications for a Complex Hydrothermal Evolution

No full text
International audienceThe massive magnetite deposit from Takab (NW Iran) is hosted in amphibolite layers intercalated with the chemical and terrigenous sediments of the Takab BIF. A comprehensive textural and chemical study allowed three types of magnetite (Mt) to be distinguished. Mt1 forms large (≤1 mm) inhomogeneous grains surrounded and locally invaded by magnetite Mt2. Oscillatory zoning is present in Mt1 and Mt2. Mt3 forms bands aligned along fracture planes. Mt3 may contain hematite relicts and is porous in proximity to hematite. Mt1 shows variable and higher Si (up to 1.4 wt. %), Al, Ca, and Mg and lower Fe content (68 wt. %) than Mt2. Mt3 has the lowest Si (<0.3 wt. %) and highest Fe (71 wt. %) contents. The temperature of formation decreases from Mt1 (600 °C) to Mt2 (500–550 °C) and Mt3 (380–440 °C). Mt1 likely formed in a reducing Si-rich environment. The close spatial relationship, sharp compositional boundaries, similar crystallographic structure of Mt1 and Mt2, and porosity in Mt2 suggest a fluid-assisted coupled dissolution of Mt1 and precipitation of Mt2 (CDR process). Microfracturing allowed the penetration of oxidizing fluid and the formation of platy hematite bands. Mt3 (mushketovite) formed after hematite by interaction with a reducing lower temperature fluid through a redox transformation

Unveiling the kinematics of a central region in the triple-AGN host NGC 7733-7734 interacting group

International audienceWe present a detailed study of the interacting triple active galactic nuclear system, NGC 7733-34, focusing on stellar kinematics, ionised gas characteristics, and star formation within the central region and stellar bars of both galaxies. We performed a comprehensive analysis using archival data from MUSE, HST/ACS, and DECaLS, complemented with observations from UVIT and IRSF. We identified a disc-like bulge in both NGC 7733 and NGC 7734 through a 2D decomposition. A central nuclear structure, with a semi-major axis of ∼1.113 kpc, was detected in NGC 7733 via a photometric and kinematic analysis, confirmed by the strong anti-correlation between V / σ and h 3 , indicative of circular orbits in the centre. NGC 7734 lacks a distinct nuclear structure. The presence of a disc-like bulge results in an anti-correlation between V / σ and h 3 , along with diffuse light. However, it does show higher central velocity dispersion, possibly attributed to an interaction with a smaller clump, which is likely a fourth galaxy within the system. Both galaxies demonstrate ongoing star formation, evidenced by FUV and H α observations. NGC 7734 shows recent star formation along its bar, while NGC 7733 experiences bar quenching. The star formation rate (SFR) analysis of NGC 7734 reveals that the bar region’s SFR dominates the galaxy’s overall SFR. Conversely, in NGC 7733, the lack of star formation along the bar and the presence of a Seyfert 2 active galactic nucleus (AGN) at the galaxy centre suggest the possibility of link among both. However, this would not affect the galaxy’s overall star formation. Our findings provide valuable insights into the stellar and gas kinematics, star formation processes, and AGN feedback mechanisms in interacting galaxies hosting stellar bars

No full text
International audienceOur communication aims to present the experience of a mechanism of otherness at the very heart of the cultural heritage process, in local and global contexts. In our point of view, cultural heritage becomes Other when its memorial process is questioned from a research-creation device, from a situated I ("Je situé"). We present "] P P P [" and "R\FRAME", two digital devices, to explain the experience of a mechanism of otherness in order to question the intermedia and transrelational space as an external body: like a suitcase that you carry with you or in front of you
