Grain-scale feedback between deformation mechanisms and metamorphic reactions: Dissolution-precipitation processes in the lower crust (Kågen gabbros)
International audienceStrain localization within crustal shear zones involves intricate feedback between deformation mechanisms, metamorphic reactions and fluid circulation. Despite evidence that these high-deformation zones proceed at least partly through dissolution-precipitation creep, available creep laws so far only account for dislocation creep and/ or solid-state diffusion processes. Deciphering the role and the contribution of dissolution-precipitation creep to strain accommodation is now required to further understand the rheological behavior of polymineralic crustal rocks. This study combines high-resolution microstructural and compositional analytical techniques to track the progressive deformation of the Kågen metagabbros, at and below grain scale. The Kågen metagabbros preserved a strain and re-equilibration gradient over outcrop-scale, where metamorphic re-equilibrations and fluid infiltration took place at constant pressure and temperature representative of lower crustal conditions (ca. 1 GPa -660 ± 25 • C). The comparison and quantification of chemical and microstructural information in this shear zone, through pixel-per-pixel and grain-per-grain correlated EPMA and EBSD maps, enables tracking grain-scale deformation mechanisms as well as the interplay between grain size reduction, mineral reactions, phase mixing and material transfer. Dissolution-precipitation creep appears dominant for strain accommodation in the Kågen metagabbros shear zone. As deformation progresses, nucleation of new metamorphic minerals (clinopyroxene, plagioclase, amphibole) allow for grain size reduction and compositional homogenization through dissolution, transport and precipitation processes associated with fluid ingression along grain boundaries. Intracrystalline plastic deformation is here insignificant for strain accommodation. Thermodynamic modeling and textural analysis reveal that re-equilibration processes are spatially controlled by microdomains where equilibrium is reached locally, on a scale of ~100 µm.This study calls for integrating reactions, dissolution-precipitation processes, fluids and polymineralic assemblages into rheological laws for a reliable assessment of the mechanical evolution of metamorphic rocks.</p
Comprehensive semi-structured interviews: an effective tool for analyzing and describing teacher training in reflexivity
International audienceThis article aims to demonstrate the value of the "comprehensive" semi-structured interview technique (Fugier, 2010) within a co-constructive approach to knowledge and understanding. This methodology seeks to deepen the comprehension of reflexive approaches underpinning the initial reflexivity training of future Tunisian teachers. It is framed within a "research with" perspective known as "institutional socio-clinics" (Monceau, 2016). We will examine the researcher's stance and methodology during the conduction and transcription of these interviews, highlighting the importance of this technique in exploring the positions of trainers and trainees with respect to the notion of reflexivity
Optimizing URLLC Resource Allocation in Open-RAN: A Transformer-based Approach to Flexible Numerology
International audienceBeyond 5G networks are set to address the continuous surge in data traffic. A key enabler is the Open Radio Access Network (Open-RAN) architecture. Open-RAN aims to virtualize and decouple the network components to facilitate network management, enable AI-based control and optimization, and optimize energy efficiency and operator's costs. One of the services in 5G and beyond is Ultra Reliable Low Latency Communication (URLLC) which requires stringent delay and reliability requirements. Hence, allocating resources to satisfy these Quality of Service constraints is challenging. 5G allows for flexible numerology that controls subcarrier spacing, enabling the use of wider subcarriers to achieve shorter transmission times. This reduction in transmission delay must be paired with selecting a suitable Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS) to meet the reliability requirements. To address this, we formulate a Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) problem to dynamically allocates Resource Blocks (RBs), MCS, numerology, time slots, and CPU resources per packet to meet URLLC traffic requirements. This dynamic model is evaluated against fixed numerology schemes. It is also compared with semi-dynamic schemes, where the numerology for all packets is unified but changes dynamically every 1ms. Additionally, we develop a transformer-based Deep Learning (DL) model that provides suboptimal results with significantly reduced execution time. The proposed model achieves up to 96.13% of its MILP counterpart considering the packet admission metric while reducing the execution time by more than 99.98%
A multipoint perturbation formula for eigenvalue problems
International audienceStandard perturbation theory of eigenvalue problems consists of obtaining approximations of eigenmodes in the neighborhood of a Hamiltonian where the corresponding eigenmode is known. Nevertheless, if the corresponding eigenmodes of several nearby Hamiltonians are known, standard perturbation theory cannot simultaneously use all this knowledge to provide a better approximation. We derive a formula enabling such an approximation result, and provide numerical examples for which this method is more competitive than standard perturbation theory
A Mode-Matching Approach to the Design of RIS-Aided Communications
International audienceReconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) is an emerging technology for application to wireless communications. In this paper, we consider the problem of anomalous reflection and model the RIS as a periodic surface impedance boundary. We utilize the mode matching method and Floquets expansion representation to compute the field reflected from a spatially periodic RIS, and evaluate the performance versus implementation complexity tradeoffs of RIS aided communications based on the global design criterion. This allows us to maximize the power reflected towards the intended direction of propagation, while minimizing the power reradiated towards undesired directions of propagation. In addition, we discuss the advantages of the proposed electromagnetically consistent approach to the design of RIS aided wireless systems
