The nuclear dynamic of CDC48 is affected during the immune response in plants

    No full text
International audiencePlants are continuously challenged by a myriad of pathogenic microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi and oomycetes, against which they must defend themselves. The protein Cell Division Cycle 48 (CDC48), a key player of ubiquitin-proteasome system which segregates and remodels ubiquitinated proteins for degradation, is known to be mobilized during plant immunity. Moreover, the characterization of the nuclear role of CDC48 is of interest, in particular its regulation in nuclear processes such as chromatin remodeling, DNA repair and gene expression. In this regard, its nuclear functions during plant immunity remain underexplored. This study investigates the dynamics of CDC48 during plant immune responses. The biophysical analysis using the Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy (FCS) on tobacco leaves stably overexpressing GFP-CDC48 revealed that the nuclear dynamics of CDC48 changed after treatment with cryptogein, an elicitor of immune responses. FCS analysis revealed an increase of the nuclear mobility of CDC48 and a faster interaction of CDC48 with a wide range of nuclear partners shortly after cryptogein treatment. Overall, our study shows a nuclear regulation of the interaction of CDC48 with its potential partners and sheds new light on potential nuclear involvements of CDC48 following the triggering of defense mechanisms

Investigating the Evolution of Odor-Evoked Memories Retrieval in Normal Aging: Theoretical and Clinical Implications

    No full text
International audienceBackgroundOlfactory-based cognitive stimulation is frequently proposed for memory-impaired patients (namely dementia patients), but little is known about the scientific rationale underlying odor choice.ObjectivesHere, we aimed at investigating the evolution of the olfactory experience related to memory evocation in normal aging. Methods. We presented 20 odorants to 25 Young Adults (YA), 36 "young" Older Adults (OA; 65 - 74y) and 26 "old" OA (75 - 89y) and asked them to freely report what each odor evoked to them. Responses were analyzed using both univariate inferential statistics and multivariate descriptive analysis.ResultsResults showed that the ability to experience phenomenological properties of evoked memories decreases with advancing age. Odor identity is increasingly used as a retrieval cue with age, providing necessary support for OA retrieval strategies. However, semantic information does not enhance the chances for old-OA to experience memories' phenomenological properties.ConclusionTailoring the choice of odors during stimulating activities is therefore crucial. In this respect, we provided a limited selection of the most well-characterized odorous stimuli and sorted them based on the phenomenological experience they're more likely to trigger across ages

    No full text
International audienceThis paper presents an approach to the design and analysis of training situations based on the case of hybrid training in higher education. It adopts a multi-scale approach to human activity, distinguishing three scales: the here and now, the configuration of collective activity, and the history of training. The analysis of activity allows the system to be redesigned between each training session. It also makes it possible to specify the three scales initially adopted for the design, because it is the relationship between these scales that makes it possible to specify their nature. This relationship is defined as a star-statement relationship in which the higher scales emerge from the lower scales and in turn constrain the latter. It is thus possible to specify the mutual determinations between the here and now, the configuration of collective activity and the history of formation.

International audienceIn France, 90% of rabbits are reared in wire cages. These living conditions impact on their ability to express the behaviours specific to their species, and are therefore criticised by the public (ICE 2020 "for a new cage-free era"). We have developed an agro-ecological system for rearing young rabbits outdoors in an apple orchard (Savietto et al., 2023, 2024) with the hypothesis that trees could enrich the environment and provide security for the rabbits. We therefore compared the behaviour of rabbits reared in 24 movable 18m2 pens in an orchard or in a meadow. Analysis of the spatial distribution showed that the rabbits in the orchard had an affinity for trees and spread out more over the run, whereas the rabbits in the meadow stayed closer to their hut. In both modalities, the rabbits expressed a wide behavioural repertoire of 44 behaviours. The rabbits in the orchard expressed more relaxation behaviours (grooming, stretching) and exploration behaviours (gnawing, marking), whereas in the meadow, the rabbits were more likely to flee. Social behaviour is also influenced. The time budget will make it possible to determine the level of activity of the rabbits in the two modalities, and to characterise interactions with trees and conspecifics as well as the expression of resting behaviours outside the hut. Our analysis suggests that the presence of apple trees could be a factor favourable to the well-being of rabbits in rearing.

International audiencePromoting local sourcing in collective catering is considered an important leverage for reducing the environmental impact of agricultural and food activity. This work studies the effects of organizational and logistical choices of production and processing actors on theenvironmental performance of the entire vegetable supply chain of public catering. The authors adopt a mixed and multidisciplinary approach by combining a qualitative analysis of three case studies and a life cycle analysis (LCA). Results show the preponderant effect of packaging and agricultural production methods choices in the chain's environmental impact; and hypothesize the role of relational proximity between actors as major levers of their environmental performance.
