    Get PDF
Together with Vatican II, the Pope recalls that holiness is for everyone: the great saints, the middle classes of salvation and the feminine genius of holiness, against the Gnosticism and Pelagianism or false intellectualism and voluntarism. The way is the Beatitudes, portrait of Christ, identity of the Christian and great protocol of the final judgment (Mt 25:35-46).Holiness today is: Trust and patience, joy of the Spirit, boldness and fervor, prayer, Christian combat, community, discernment: listening to God, to others and to the reality.

    Get PDF
The praxis of fasting, widespread in the Jewish world and adopted by some Christian communities, was used in the nascent Christianity with different functions, as the Didache testifies: as group identity sign (8,1), as expression of love (1,3) and as preparatory element for the baptism (7,4). This is the oldest testimony of the prebaptismal fasting, transmitting an existing praxis in its community, without needing to justify it. Probably it was understood as a liminal element of ritual of the baptism and, as a collective act, denoted the spiritual solidarity of the community with the candidate.

It is well known that St. John and St. Paul are the two authors of the New Testament preferred by the bishop of Hippo, if preference is measured by dedication to his writings and recourse to them. However, of the two hagiographers who exerts more weight in the saint’s thought? Which one occupies the first place? Read from this perspective his Treatise on the letter of St. John to the Parthians (1 John), the answer is clear: The Apostle has won the game to the evangelist. The present study examines, first various aspects of the use of the Apostle in the Treatise (his frequency, modes of quotation, technique of quotation, syntactic functions of the quotation...) and, then, the various objectives the texts of Saint Paul fulfil in the commentary on the Johannine letter (confirmation, addition, solution of questions, development of parallel themes, understanding of other biblical texts, controversy, etc.). The analysis of the texts reveals how the preacher prefers Saint Paul to Saint John; how Pauline theology overcomes the Johannine; how the saint does not waste any resources to make the leap from Saint John to Saint Paul. Saint Paul seems to be for Saint Augustine, de facto, a good interpreter of Saint John. Distinct however is if what the Bishop of Hippo thinks is consistent with the truth.

Some lines of current reflection are warning that democratic societies are sustained by exemplary and responsible citizens for their actions, beyond the mere demand of their rights and the fulfilment of their duties. The extension and universalization of democratic commitments requires the Christians of the 21st-century –members of a Church on the way out to humanity– a profound experience of their faith as citizens who present the Kingdom of God through their testimony that becomes an enabling praxis of their faith. The subjects of this exemplarity find some privileged fields of action, work for justice and dialogue, which require them a plus of rationalization and an attitude of conversion.

Justin Martyr and Marcus Aurelius are two figures of Greco-Roman culture, live and develop their philosophical activity during the second century and understand philosophy as a way of life. Christianity at this time was understood also as a way of life, that is, it participated in the same philosophical conception of the schools of antiquity since it proposed a way of life. Saint Justin is martyred in the year 165 during the reign of Marco Aurelius, a philosopher who distinguished himself by a message of peace and universal brotherhood.

The article aims to present the step that the Spanish Church takes, in a very short space of time, from a conception of catechesis understood as “school catechesis” to a new reality: “religious teaching in school” and “community catechesis “ The Spanish Church that had remained outside the “catechetical renewal movement” operated in the surroundings of the Second Vatican Council, had to adapt quickly under pressure from two events: ecclesial and political. Ecclesial: the renewal set in motion by the Council and concretized in the Synods of 1974 and 1977 and the apostolic Exhortations that emanated from them. Political: the passage of a political form of dictatorship that favored in some aspects the teaching to the Church, to a regime of democracy where the Church began to be questioned right in that place that had been its best area of catechesis: the school.
