Get PDFSummary: Following the indications provided by Benedict XVI in Caritas in veritate, the author analyses the characteristics of contemporary culture and the mission of the university within that culture. In a world marked by globalisation, by the development of technology and of communication, there is a greater risk of thought becoming superficial and of relativism, with the result that ethics risks collapsing into a materialistic utilitarianism, involving serious dangers for human life, for the family and for the environment. The university will have to be capable of forming people who are capable of serious thought and of deep reflection, with a passion for the truth, and yet who are capable at the same time of expounding that truth calmly and with kindness, in a world that is also marked by a digital culture. Research into the foundations of the dignity of the human person, justice and peace, will lead to a culture in which there is a place for God in the public realm and an existential openness to the encounter with the truth of Christ.

Our days are characterized by an increasing mistrust with regard to the human being's cognitive resources. lt is necessary then to delve deeper into man and to be in constant search far truth and meaning. This is an invitation far theologians to pay special attention to the philosophical implications of the word of God in history and its meaning. Therefore it is a question of beginning a joumey on the paths of history, a trip which is not exclusively theological, to be patiently undertaken, to be asked, to be questioned, as perhaps theology is no longer accustomed to do.

Get PDFAbstract: This article investigates what knowledge about God we obtain from what is sensible, in its very determinateness as sensible. The question is intimately related to reflection on how God, who is pure spirit, knows what is material and sensible. We follow Joseph de Finance in his approach to this problem in his later writings, especially his The Sensible and God [Il sensibile e Dio] (1988) and To you through you with the other [A tu per tu con l’altro] (1992). After outlining de Finance’s method of analysis, it is applied to diverse aspects of the sensible: space, time, sensible qualities, affectivity and otherness. The article concludes with an ontological valorization of the sensible in relation to our knowledge of God.

No full textSummary: The article wants lo track down the sources of S. Thomas Aquinas 'anthropology, pointing out the studies available on the subject. After an introduction on the open mentality and methodology of Thomas who tries lo synthesize the truth listening lo things and listening to men, the article distinguishes between "scientifìc" and "sapiential" sources. Among the scientifìc sources it notes the aristotelian (Aristotle, commentators, averroist discussion) and platonic elementes (Plato, Platonic, De Causis) and some smaller currents such as stoicism and epicureanism, inviting a more profund investigation of the medicai elements (Hippocrates, Aristotle, Galen, Avicenna). Among the sapiential sources il studies the Christian-biblical elements, highlighting the anthropological treatises of Gregorius Nissenus, Nemesius Emesenus and Johannes Damascenus, then considering the injluences of Augustin and the Magistri (Petrus Lombardus and Albertus Magnus). Si parla già di neuro-mania, neuro-fobia e di neuro-filia. Le immagini di risonanza magnetica fanno già parte della cultura d’ogni giorno: termini come PET (tomografia ad emissione di positroni) o risonanza magnetica funzionale (fRMN) sono parte integrante della nostra memoria, li abbiamo uditi ed ascoltati ripetutamente per radio, in televisione, li abbiamo letti su Internet e in migliaia di reti sociali nelle circostanze più disparate.
In questo contesto di applicazione all’uomo delle tecnologie neuroscientifiche, come già dal 1970 con l’oncologo Potter si era costituita la “bioetica”, così è sorta in questi ultimi anni la pseudo-disciplina denominata Neuroetica o Neurobioetica che ha “festeggiato” lo scorso anno 2012, il suo 10° anniversario dalla “nascita”
