Persona, natura umana e bioetica attuale (Seconda parte): Distinzione e connessione tra natura umana e persona umana

Of particular importance for bioethics is the contemporary discussion over the distinction and connection between «human nature» and «human person», especially since there are a number of positions which contest the attribution of personhood to each and every human being. This raises serious anthropological, ethical, and juridical questions. While it is correct to distinguish between human nature and human person, this does not necessarily mean that the two exist apart from one another. It is difficult to avoid treating them as separately existing realities, however, if person is identified with the actual possession of a certain set of properties and operations. In this case, the ethical duty to respect persons would only extend to those who exhibit the relevant properties and operation. This paper (in two parts) argues that what makes one a human person, and worthy of respect, is the possession of human nature rather than the actuation of certain properties.

La presente riflessione sulla distinzione/connessione tra «natura umana» e «persona umana» riprende un' aspetto che oggi ha notevole importanza in campo bioetico, tanto più quando non poche posizioni attuali contestano l'identificazione di persona ed essere umano, ponendo gravi questioni di carattere non solo antropologico ma anche etico e giuridico. Affermare la dissociazione diventa molto problematico, perché sarebbe negare che tutti gli uomini sono persone. Questa negazione introduce non solo la giusta distinzione tra natura umana e persona umana, ma anche la discutibile separazione. La dissociazione appare difficile da superare se la persona viene identificata con un insieme di proprietà e operazioni, mancanti le quali, non vi sarebbe più la persona. Il dovere etico di rispettare la persona dipenderebbe allora della presenza o meno di determinate proprietà e operazioni. Il contributo (diviso in due parti) intende argomentare che la persona umana è tale e va rispettata per la natura umana che possiede e non primariamente per le proprietà che mette in atto.

La resolutio come metodo della metafisica secondo Cornelio Fabro
No full textSummary: Cornelio Fabro claims that (Thomist) metaphysics follows the «resolutio» method. «Resolutio» is a notion that western rationalist tradition forgot, but which St. Thomas treated in an original manner. Nevertheless, Fabro's works do not include a systematic study on resolution nor an explicit treatment of the method of metaphysics. According to Heidegger and Fabro, the task of metaphysics is a reductio or resolutio of being (ens) to its foundation (esse). Without a study on method there seems to be no way of accomplishing this endeavour, and the passage from phenomenon to foundation. After some introductory considerations on method in general, the article gathers together Fabro's most significant remarks on «resolutio», pointing out the absence of any reference to the principal Thomist texts on the theme: In «Boethii de Trinitate» q 6, a 1, which presents the different types of «resolutio» in St Thomas. The article also considers the diverging interpretations given to this text by J. Aertsen and L. Oeing-Hanhoff. It concludes with a proposal on how to integrate into Fabro 's interpretation of St Thomas' philosophy an explicit study, and above all the use, of the resolutive method
