AN EVALUATION OF RIDE QUALITY IN LIFT SYSTEMS OF SELECTED PUBLIC HIGH-RISE BUILDINGS IN ABUJA, NIGERIA
Ride quality of lifts enhances the comfort of users. However, problems associated with ride quality have progressively received attention from lift users in buildings. Vibration and noise produced during operations are relevant parameters for consideration when evaluating ride quality of lift systems. This study explored the ride quality of lifts of selected high-rise buildings within the Central Business District (CBD) of Abuja, Nigeria. The study adopted field survey research. Measuring instruments like the WT85 Digital Sound Level Meter and Smart Sensor AS63D Vibration Meter alongside a checklist were used for data collection on lift interior sound level and vibration during acceleration. Results shows that 64.3% of the buildings have unsatisfactory interior lift sound levels and 71.4% with poor ride quality. Inferential statistical analysis showed significant differences (p<0.05) in the mean values of lift car interior sound levels and lift acceleration values. The assessed lift systems were considered to have unsatisfactory ride quality as majority of them made sounds beyond expected standards for optimum sound level in lift car and vibration. For high-rise buildings considering modernization of lift system or installation of new ones, ride quality is a factor to consider for optimum service delivery and users ride comfort.

APPLICATION OF DOUBLE-SKIN FACADE (DSF) IN TROPICAL CLIMATE COUNTRIES: A CASE STUDY OF SUASANA PJH TOWER IN PUTRAJAYA
Double skin facade (DSF) is often heard and easily found in cold climate countries. For those countries, DSF are often used for heating mechanism to avoid heat loss. The solar-heated air contained in the cavity can heat the space outside the glass, reducing the need for an internal heating system. Due to the scorching sun that causes hot temperatures every day, DSF is rarely detected and be applied in tropical climate countries. However, DSF can still be used in the tropical climates with some modification to its parameters. The aim for this paper is to investigate the application of double skin facade in the tropical climate countries. Literature review on several resources such as journal, proceedings, book, and web surfing are conducted. Suasana PJH tower, Putrajaya that applied DSF in the building was selected as a case study. From the research, it can be concluded that DSF can be beneficial, but at the same time, can be a problem depending on the application of the DSF. The result for this research will be a reference and a guidance for researcher to design a building with proper application of the DSF
PLENITUDE OF MATHEMATICS IN ARCHITECTURE AND ITS INFINITE POSSIBILITIES: A REVIEW OF PARAMETRIC DESIGN
During the earlier stage of architectural education, we are exposed to the concept of mathematics in architecture such as the Vitruvian man, the golden ratio, the Cartesian, Euclidean and Pythagoras Theorem. After a while this so-called basic architectural knowledge is no longer that matter that we are much consumed by the freedom of art and aesthetic that drove us to oversight that science and technology are also important parts of architecture that we should never overlook. Therefore, this paper explores the use of mathematics in architecture, and how it can contribute in revolutionizing the architecture to a different and logical spectrum. Case studies, site visits and observations are conducted on selected buildings that used applied mathematics in the design process such as British Museum, England (parametric design), Sydney Opera House, Australia (algo rithm design), and Segrada Familia , Spain (sequence number). The paper suggests that it is been retained in a new emerging style of parametricism as the only way for the ideology survive with a better understanding of mathematics as an underlying principle and reasoning
BUILDING INFORMATION MODELLING (BIM) AS AN EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION CHANNEL AMONG CONSTRUCTION PLAYERS OF DESIGN AND BUILD (D&B) PROJECTS
Effective communication is crucial in every construction project to overcome a misunderstanding, frequent verification and clarification, disappointment, lack of trust, and conflicts among construction players, resulting in cost overruns, time overruns, dispute, and project failure. However, the traditional method of construction causing the effectiveness of communication is low due to miscommunication arise. This paper aims to highlight Building Information Modelling (BIM) awareness as an integrated communication platform for Malaysian Design and Build (D&B) projects. This paper's methodology is based on a literature review regarding the effectiveness of BIM for communication in construction. The finding reveals that BIM is an effective communication platform, especially for the D&B project that involves many collaborations throughout a project's lifecycle.
