Influence of Hydroxyl Content and Preirradiation on the Radioluminescence of Pure‐Silica‐Core Optical Fibers

    No full text
International audienceThis study investigates how the X‐ray radiation‐induced luminescence (RIL) of multimode pure‐silica‐core (MM‐PSC) optical fibers is influenced by their hydroxyl (OH) content and by a preirradiation treatment up to 300 kGy(SiO 2 ). To achieve this objective, three MM‐PSC fibers with low‐, medium‐, and high‐OH contents were evaluated for their RIL response before and after a 300 kGy preirradiation. The high‐OH fiber exhibits the lowest RIL level but with excellent linearity as a function of the dose rate and a good stability over dose. Consequently, this fiber, having its RIL spectrum dominated by the nonbridging oxygen hole centers (NBOHCs) contribution, appears as a suitable dosimetry solution for high dose rate environments. The medium‐OH fiber showed the larger RIL at low doses and after preirradiation, its RIL is dominated by the contribution of silica oxygen‐deficient centers (SiODC(II)) and NBOHCs. For the low‐OH fiber, the same two defects are responsible for its RIL, which also increases with cumulated dose. These results highlight the critical role of OH content and preirradiation on RIL characteristics, with implications for the design of radiation‐hardened fiber‐based dosimeters

International audienceThis study proposes that the personal name konewata, documented in two Linear B tablets from Pylos and Chania, can be plausibly traced back to an unattested place name *Skhoinē̆u̯ā. The distinctive toponymic ending °ē̆u̯ā, which is conspicuously absent in place names found in Cnossian texts, suggests an onomastic influence originating from the Peloponnese that extended to the west of Crete by the end of the 2nd millennium BCE.Cette étude propose que le nom personnel konewata, attesté dans deux tablettes en linéaire B de Pylos et de Chania, est vraisemblablement rattaché à un toponyme non attesté, *Skhoinē̆u̯ā.

    No full text

Functional positioning in robotic lateral unicompartmental knee arthroplasty: a step-by-step technique

International audienceLateral unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) represents 1–2% of knee replacement procedures, yet offers distinct advantages including reduced surgical burden, bone stock preservation, and faster functional recovery. However, lateral UKA presents unique technical difficulties due to the surgical complexity of the lateral compartment. Recent advances in image-based robotic systems have demonstrated improved accuracy in implant positioning and promoted more individualized surgical strategies. This article presents a step-by-step surgical technique for lateral UKA using Functional Positioning (FP) principles in combination with an image-based robotic system. The technique ensures precise preoperative planning based on CT imaging, real-time intraoperative kinematic evaluation, and accurate component placement tailored to individual patient anatomy. The key steps of this surgical technique include comprehensive preoperative planning with 3D anatomical modeling, intraoperative kinematic evaluation following osteophyte removal, achieving centered femorotibial contact points throughout the full range of motion with precise lateral laxity gap boundaries, and cartilage mapping to ensure optimal component positioning and avoid overstuffing. FP addresses the characteristic posterior cartilage wear pattern of valgus knees while preserving pre-arthritic coronal alignment and avoiding varus overcorrection. This systematic approach demonstrates reproducible surgical steps that may translate into improved long-term outcomes and implant survivorship for lateral UKA procedures

This manuscript presents my main contributions in the field of Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL), and more specifically in the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for personalized learning, closely aligned with learners’ needs and teachers’ constraints. Within this context, I address two major themes.First, I propose a Knowledge Engineering-based approach to support teachers in the co-construction of personalized learning environments. This includes the development of meta-models for modeling pedagogical knowledge and designing authoring tools, as well as the integration of these models into adapted environ-ments. The aim is not to create automated systems that replace teachers, but rather adaptable tools aligned with their practices, enabling the generation and recommendation of learning activities tailored to learner profiles and specific pedagogical constraints. In recent years, these models and tools have been furtherdeveloped to support the implementation of Competency-Based Education and to fully leverage its potential within the personalization cycle of TEL.Second, I explore approaches based on the collection and analysis of learning traces, drawing on Knowledge Engineering, as well as Data Mining and Machine Learning techniques. This has led to the development of platforms that, on the one hand, allow learning data analysis without requiring technical expertise, and, on the other, facilitate the capitalization and sharing of such analyses. This work has also resulted in the design of recommender systems leveraging competency models, integrating both top-down approaches (expert knowledge) and bottom-up approaches (data-driven discovery). Furthermore, analyzing the operational traces of AI engines has enabled the proposal of initial mechanismsfor explainable AI in these systems.Building on these contributions, developed within national and international projects, a research agenda is also presented. It focuses on the following directions : the design of rich and adapted explainable AI mechanisms within the personalization cycle, the development of hybrid AI to detect and leverage learners’ sense of competence, the co-evolution of the Human-AI relationship within TEL, and the enrichment of our models through the paradigm of active learning in AI. These perspectives aim to better integrate AI capabilities into TEL while ensuring their alignment with the pedagogical and human realities of educational stakeholders.

Search for heavy resonances decaying into two Higgs bosons in the bbˉτ+τ\mathrm{b\bar{b}}τ^+τ^- final state in proton-proton collisions at s\sqrt{s} = 13 TeV

    No full text
International audienceA search is presented for massive narrow-width resonances in the mass range of 1-4.5 TeV, decaying into pairs of Higgs bosons (HH). The search uses proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC during 2016-2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb1^{-1}. The analysis targets final states where one Higgs boson decays into a pair of bottom quarks and the other into a pair of tau leptons, X \to HH \tobbˉτ+τ\mathrm{b\bar{b}}τ^+τ^-. It uses a single large jet to reconstruct the H \tobbˉ\mathrm{b\bar{b}} decay, while the H \toτ+ττ^+τ^- decay products can either be contained within a single large jet or appear as two isolated tau leptons. The observed data are consistent with standard model background expectations. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set on the production cross section for resonant HH production for masses between 1 and 4.5 TeV. This analysis sets the most sensitive limits to date on X \to HH \to bbˉτ+τ\mathrm{b\bar{b}}τ^+τ^- decays in the mass range of 1.4 to 4.5 TeV

    No full text

Novel CNNM2 variant causing hypomagnesemia and early-onset calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease: A case report

    No full text
International audienceCalcium pyrophosphate deposition (CPPD) disease is a common crystal arthropathy in the elderly, but its early-onset forms are rare. While secondary hypomagnesemia is a recognized contributor to CCPD, inherited renal magnesium-wasting syndromes remain underdiagnosed. Here we performed a whole exome sequencing (ES) in order to detect pathogenic variants in a 58-year-old male patient with early and severe, refractory CPPD disease. We conducted a comprehensive clinical, biochemical, radiological, and genetic evaluation of the patient. ES was performed and filtered for rare, likely pathogenic variants following ACMG/AMP criteria. Cascade genetic testing was performed in family members. Hypomagnesemia with inappropriate renal magnesium loss was found. Radiographs revealed diffuse chondrocalcinosis ES identified a novel heterozygous Cyclin and CBS Domain Divalent Metal Cation Transport Mediator (CNNM2) missense variant (c.319G>C; p.Gly107Arg), absent from population databases and predicted deleterious (REVEL 0.82). This variant affects a highly conserved residue in the extracellular β-barrel domain. Family screening revealed two additional carriers with isolated hypomagnesemia, consistent with autosomal dominant inheritance. CNNM2 encodes a basolateral magnesium transporter in the tubule. This is the first reported case of CPPD linked to a CNNM2 variant through persistent hypomagnesemia. Its variants have been linked to renal hypomagnesemia, neurological comorbidities, but no link to CPPD has been described. This expands the phenotypic spectrum of CNNM2-related disorders and highlights the relevance of genetic testing in CPPD cases with unexplained hypomagnesemia. Building on published functional studies and domain-level protein modeling, we propose a simplified three-tier classification scheme that organizes CNNM2 variants into clinically meaningful categories
