Implementation and evaluation of a peer-to-peer support program in oncology: study protocol for the PaRole Onco France model
International audienceBackground: Peer support interventions in oncology have shown potential benefits for patients, including reduced psychological distress, improved empowerment, and enhanced care experience. However, the integration of Accompanying Patients (APs), trained individuals with personal experience of cancer into clinical teams remains variable, and the mechanisms underlying their impact are not fully understood. In France, although peer support initiatives are emerging, they often lack structure, evaluation, and coordination. Building on the PAROLE-Onco model developed in Quebec, this study aims to adapt, implement, and evaluate a structured peer-support program within the French healthcare system.Methods: This study will use a mixed-methods, multiple-case design across ten oncology units with four organizational contexts. Quantitative data will be collected through validated questionnaires administered at baseline, 1 month, and 6 months for patients, or at inclusion, 1 month and 30 months for APs and healthcare professionals. Outcomes include quality of life (EORTC QLQ-C30), psychological well-being (HADS), empowerment (CASE-Cancer), care experience (PPE-15), patient-professional relationship (CADICEE), and professional perceptions of APs integration. Qualitative data will be gathered through semi-structured interviews, non-participant observations of meetings, and document analysis. This will explore the experiences of patients, APs, and professionals; the organizational adaptations and, the ethical and professional considerations associated with the program. Implementation fidelity, contextual adaptations, and stakeholders’ engagement will be systematically assessed.Discussion: This study will provide an in-depth understanding of the integration processes and impacts of peer-support interventions in oncology care. By examining both patient-centered outcomes and organizational dynamics, it aims to identify key factors that facilitate sustainable integration of APs into clinical practice. Findings will inform strategies for scaling up and adapting peer-to-peer support programs across diverse healthcare settings, contributing to the strengthening of patient partnership and participatory approaches in cancer care
Photometric classification of supernovae detected by the Zwicky Transient Facility using noise augmentation
International audienceModern time-domain surveys, such as the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF), detect far more extragalactic transients than can be spectroscopically classified. Photometric classification offers a scalable alternative, enabling the identification of larger, fainter, and higher-redshift supernova samples suitable for applications such as Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) cosmology. We present a feature-based photometric classifier for SNe detected by ZTF, with the primary goal of constructing a photometric SN Ia sample for cosmological analyses. Our approach utilises the autoencoder architecture of ParSNIP (Boone 2021) to capture the intrinsic diversity of SN light curves. We trained the model on a spectroscopically classified ZTF SN sample, incorporating a realistic noise augmentation procedure that simulates the flux uncertainties of fainter sources. Light curve features were used to train a gradient-boosted decision tree classifier, implemented in both binary (SN Ia vs. non-Ia) and multi-class configurations. We validated our classifier on independent, fainter ZTF data with and without noise augmentation. To evaluate real-time performance, we also applied our classifier to live ZTF alerts and conducted a spectroscopic classification survey within the ePESSTO+ collaboration. We found that noise augmentation significantly improves classification performance, particularly for fainter sources. Our binary classifier achieves an SN Ia recall of (98.1 0.4)%, averaged across five train-test splits. SN Ia recall exceeds 98% for events with a peak apparent magnitude up to 20 and more than 10 detections, and remains above 96% up to magnitude 20.5. Overall, 95% of sources were correctly classified in both binary and multi-class modes. Our classifier performs efficiently on real ZTF data and enables construction of a large photometric SN Ia sample for cosmology
Professional practice guidelines: Eco-Responsible Optimization of Choice and use of Drugs and Medical Devices in operating theaters or interventional sector
International audienceObjectif: To provide recommendations for eco-responsible optimization of choice and use of medicines and medical devices.Design: A committee of 16 experts brought together by CERES and from SPFDM/Euro-Pharmat, SFAR, SFCR, SFED, SF2H, SFPC, SFR, SF2S has been set up. A policy for declaring links of interest was applied and respected throughout the process of creating the reference system. Similarly, it has not provided any funding from a company marketing a health product (drug or medical device). The committee had to respect and follow the GRADE® method (Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation) to assess the quality of the evidence on which the recommendations were based.Methods: The recommendations were formulated by identifying 4 different fields: practice of care (optimization of medicines and medical devices), packaging (reduction of the environmental impact of medical devices), organization of care (integration of environmental criteria) and waste management (reduction, sorting and recovery). Each question was formulated according to the PICO (Patients, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome) format. The analysis of the literature and the recommendations were carried out according to the GRADE® methodology.Results: The experts' synthesis work resulted in 46 recommendations validated after one round of voting. For all questions, since the GRADE grid ® method could not be applied in full, the recommendations were formulated in the form of expert opinions.Conclusion: From a strong agreement between experts, we were able to formulate 46 recommendations for eco-responsible optimization of the choice and use of medicines and medical devices

He offers a work representative of the popularisation of the 1880s and the issues of science as seen by the republican school system. Opening science up to the imagination, he constructs the panoramas of his novel by drawing inspiration from the electric lighting effects then in vogue in theatres. Tracing the origins of Antarctic periwinkles: an integrative morphological-molecular perspective on Laevilacunaria evolution.
International audienceIn biogeography, related lineages often share similar range sizes and species richness due to inherited traits and shared geographic history. This expectation is based on phylogenetic niche conservatism and shared dispersal constraints. However, within the subfamily Laevilitorininae, this pattern is not observed: Laevilitorina shows broader distributions and higher species richness than Laevilacunaria despite similar developmental mode and habitat preferences. Combining multilocus genetic data, radular morphology and model-based historical biogeography, we aim to understand the origins of these disparities in range extent. The paraphyly detected in both Laevilitorina and Laevilacunaria genus indicates a more complex history than a simple older–younger genus contrast, with age and diversification distributed across four clades. Our dated analyses place the time to the most recent common ancestor (TMRCA) of Laevilitorininae at 52.2 Mya, with diversification within clades from the Miocene to Pleistocene. The sister genera show process-level contrasts: in Laevilitorina, broad ranges in some lineages are consistent with intermittent, macroalgal raft-mediated connectivity, whereas Laevilacunaria exhibits restricted ranges consistent with rare, storm-facilitated rafting that enables colonization without sustained gene flow. Overall, our findings support how stochastic long-distance dispersal and establishment can shape biogeographic patterns in the Southern Ocean and underscore the need to update systematic classifications
Le jeu d’évasion comme outil de médiation scientifique : enjeux méthodologiques, éthiques et pragmatiques d’une vulgarisation scientifique
International audiencetool for scientific mediation: methodological, ethical, and pragmatic challenges of science communicationCet article analyse la conception et la mise en œuvre d’un jeu d’évasion (appelé couramment escape game) comme dispositif de médiation scientifique pour partager aux acteurs de terrain les résultats d’une enquête ethnographique menée au sein d’unités militaires françaises. Conçu à partir des étapes centrales du travail de terrain (observation, immersion, analyse), le jeu engage les participants dans des épreuves mobilisant à la fois compétences physiques et intellectuelles, afin de rendre visibles les dimensions méthodologiques et éthiques de la recherche. Au-delà d’une simple modalité de partage des résultats, le jeu d’évasion favorise une réflexivité partagée entre chercheuse et militaires, en ouvrant un espace de dialogue critique sur les normes, identités et pratiques professionnelles. L’analyse met en évidence les apports de ce dispositif en termes d’appropriation des savoirs, de co-construction et de transparence, tout en soulignant ses limites liées au coût et aux contraintes logistiques. Cette expérience invite à repenser les modalités de communication scientifique en anthropologie et à interroger les articulations possibles entre jeu, travail, production de savoirs, éthique scientifique et rôles des acteurs de terrain dans une anthropologie « avec »
