Laser Induced Incandescence for Monitoring Soot on Liquid Rocket Engine Test Rig Combustor

    No full text
International audienceThis experimental study of soot characterization in the MASCOTTE rocket engine combustor shows that Laser Induced Incandescence (LII) is a suitable technique for soot detection in a methane/LOX cryogenic combustion at high pressure and very fuel-rich mixture ratios (RM). It seems that in the selected mixture ratio conditions from RM = 1.0 to RM = 1.4, there is, a maximum of LII signal around RM = 1.4, whose LII measurement results are presented in this study, together with the flame structure. Outside this value, the signal and therefore the presence of soot detectable by LII remain very weak

Direct numerical simulations of turbulent flows through porous media using a spectral difference method solver

    No full text
This study presents a high-fidelity direct numerical simulation (DNS) framework tailored for investigating turbulent flows through complex porous structures. It employs a compressible Navier–Stokes solver based on the spectral difference (SD) method, with immersed boundary conditions (IBCs) implemented via the Brinkman penalization technique and integrated using a Strang splitting approach.Apressure gradient scaling (PGS) strategy is incorporated to improve computational efficiency. To provide realistic inflow conditions, synthetic turbulence is injected at the inlet using a random Fourier modes method. The methodology is validated in several stages. First, the IBC approach is tested against results from a bodyfitted mesh, showing strong agreement in the mean velocity field. Next, the effectiveness of the PGS technique is demonstrated by comparing scaled and unscaled simulations, both of which yield consistent velocity fields and spectral content. Finally, the full DNS-SD framework is benchmarked against finite volume method results from the literature, successfully reproducing key turbulence characteristics, including two-point correlations. The validated solver is ultimately applied to simulate turbulent flow through a complex porous geometry. The results illustrate the robustness of the approach and highlight its potential for advancing the understanding of turbulence in porous materials

Détection de cibles radar par auto-encodeur variationnel

    No full text

    No full text

    No full text
Perception and action are fundamental components of human cognition, forming the basis for how we interact with the world. Having voluntary control of action execution constitutes part of our phenomenological experience. This experience is known as the sense of agency. The crucial role of predictive processes transpires in mainstream theories of the sense of agency and explains its emergence. Sense of agency through predictive processes is thought to be responsible for perception biases. Whereas predictive processes theories have largely been developed through the study of the visual system, research studies on the influence of the sense of agency on visual perception are surprisingly scarce. Firstly, through a series of experiments, this thesis explores how visual anticipation is guided by our voluntary actions. Besides, the sense of agency has a social dimension as it is key to the discernment of self and others, mandatory to understand responsibility, and also to interindividual collaboration. This thesis, thus, puts forward the social function of the sense of agency and extends the influence of predictive processes on social perception. Using a traditional perception effect of SoA known as intentional binding, we highlight the critical role of predictive processes in shaping the sense of agency in joint actions. Altogether, this thesis investigates how the sense of agency impacts visual and time perception, contributing to a broader understanding of the predictive mechanisms both in individual and social contexts. Finally, findings could be applied to various fields, such as Human-Computer Interaction, where models of human social behavior are increasingly studied to design co-agents and actual teammates interacting with users.

    No full text
International audienceIn order to address the issue of electromagnetic spectrum congestion, several studies aim to create and optimise new radar waveforms. More generically designated as waveform diversity, this area of research can cover joint radar-communications systems as well as biomimicry approaches like the one presented in this article. Indeed, the study of bat signals has enabled the proposition of a bio-inspired waveform, the Parsons function, adapted to radar applications. Its capacities and response to classical radar processing have already been evaluated through simulations. Therefore, this article is dedicated to the presentation of real data experiments obtained in a plane tracking framework to validate the theory.

International audienceThe objective of this study is to explore the effects of communicating hierarchically organized intentions with a visual or vocal modality - from an artificial agent to an operator cooperating in real-time – upon cooperation metrics (trust, interaction fluency, likability, teammate likeliness), in game behavior, performance and the sense of control of human partner.L’objectif de cette étude est d’explorer les effets de la communication d’intentions, organisées hiérarchiquement, via la modalité vocale ou visuelle, d’un agent artificiel à un opérateur, lors d’une tâche de coopération en directe.

Waveform with Time and Frequency Interruptions to Reduce the Energy Consumption of a Tracking Radar

    No full text
International audienceWaveforms are usually designed to optimize the radar performance. To this aim, a compromise has to be found between resolution and ambiguities, so that sidelobes have to be controlled carefully. In the particular scenario of a radar tracking a single target in a sparse environment (space basedradar for orbital rendezvous or air-to-air radar operating at high altitude), the constraint of low sidelobes level can be removed. In this paper, we show how releasing this constraint makes it possible to optimize the power consumption of the radar while preserving its precision. An adaptive waveform with binary frequency and time amplitudes, and frequency or time interruptions, is proposed and its efficiency for delay and Doppler estimation is characterized. The results are illustrated in a space rendezvous use case where the efficiency of the radar in transforming energy into information for delay and Doppler estimation can be improved thanks to interruptions. In this example, the proposed waveform enables to save 60% of the transmitted energy for a link budget excess of 1 dB, while a conventional reduction of the pulse width saves 20% of it

    No full text
International audienceThis paper presents a comprehensive noise mapping study for a Western European Airport in the year 2050, with a focus on incorporating the novel Blended Wing Body (BWB) aircraft. The BWB’s noise data, simulated with CARMEN, and NPD data are generated to integrate the future aircraft concept into the conventional noise mapping software SoundPLAN. Subsequently, the BWB is integrated into the 2050 baseline scenario forecast, replacing wide body generation 2 aircraft, encompassing air traffic uptake, technology evolution, and fleet shifts. The results show 5 % smaller Lden = 55 dB and Ln = 50 dB contour lines when the BWB generation 3 aircraft makes up 5 % of the operations at Dublin Airport. From 2023 to 2050 air traffic is expected to increase around 47 %. This forecast shows an increase of around 25 % in Lden and 45 % in Ln contour areas in the same time frame.
