    No full text

Bertand Competition and the Existence of Pure Strategy Nash Equilibrium in Markets with Adverse Selection

    No full text
I analyse a market with adverse selection in which companies competè a la Bertrand by offering menus of contracts. Contrary to Rothschild and Stiglitz (1976), I allow for any finite number of types and states and more general utility functions. I define the generalised Rothschild-Stiglitz Profile of Actions (RSPA), and I show that, in every possible market, if the RSPA is efficient, it is also a pure strategy Nash equilibrium profile of actions. On the contrary, I show that in markets in which the RSPA is not efficient, preferences admit an expected utility representation with strictly increasing and strictly concave VNM utilities and a weak sorting condition holds, no pure strategy Nash equilibrium exists

Error Generation, Inventory Record Inaccuracy (IRI) and Effects on Performance: A Dynamic Investigation

    No full text
Part 14: Product, Service and SystemsInternational audienceOne of the aspects of a good inventory control system is low Inventory Record Inaccuracy (IRI). IRI control ought to be an integral part of PLM by helping to further streamline the production, transportation and service stages. This paper contributes to the expanding debate on linking error generation to Inventory Record Inaccuracy (IRI) and its ensuing effects on performance. Methods of discovering and eliminating the root causes of IRI are presented. A System Dynamics (SD) simulation model is used to examine and confirm the substantial impact of error generation and IRI on workflow. The results of the model show that even a small undetected source of IRI can accumulate and eventually destabilize the entire system

    Editorial: Electromobility at the crossroads

    No full text
International audienceA recent study from the Centre for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden Württemberg (ZSW), reports that in early 2015 over 740,000 electric cars were on the road throughout the world. This is a drop in the ocean compared to the 74 million ICE cars sold last year. However, latest statistics on the sale of electric cars indicate that the market is booming with no less 320,000 vehicles registered in one year, as well as an exponential growth rate of sales worldwide. These results came as no surprise to researchers from the Armand Peugeot Chair, who held the Second International Conference in Paris in December 2014. A previous issue of the International Journal of Automotive Technology and Management (‘Electromobility challenging issues’, Vol. 15, No. 2, 2015) called attention to the fact that the emergence of electromobility has generated three critical challenges for the markets, the industrial processes and the business models of the traditional automotive industry. More specifically, it discussed issues regarding innovation and service transition, issues regarding grid-integration and service-aggregator actions, and lastly issues regarding supportive public policies (Donada and Perez, 2015). How have these challenges evolved one year later, a year during which this new electromobility industry has been booming? This special edition presents five emblematic researches on the issues raised during the sessions of this 2014 conference

A self-calibrating method for heavy tailed data modeling : Application in neuroscience and finance

    No full text
One of the main issues in the statistical literature of extremes concerns the tail index estimation, closely linked to the determination of a threshold above which a Generalized Pareto Distribution (GPD) can be tted. Approaches to this estimation may be classied into two classes, one using standard Peak Over Threshold (POT) methods, in which the threshold to estimate the tail is chosen graphically according to the problem, the other suggesting self-calibrating methods, where the threshold is algorithmically determined. Our approach belongs to this second class proposing a hybrid distribution for heavy tailed data modeling, which links a normal (or lognormal) distribution to a GPD via an exponential distribution that bridges the gap between mean and asymptotic behaviors. A new unsupervised algorithm is then developed for estimating the parameters of this model. The effectiveness of our self-calibrating method is studied in terms of goodness-of-fit on simulated data. Then, it is applied to real data from neuroscience and finance, respectively. A comparison with other more standard extreme approaches follows

The Impact of Brand Actions on Facebook on the Consumer Mind-Set

    No full text
Part 2: Digital Marketing and Customer Relationship ManagementInternational audienceDespite all the surrounding hype, it is still not clear exactly how social media affects consumer behavior. In an effort to contribute to the current debate on the effectiveness of social media marketing this study aims to theorize and empirically demonstrate how brand’s social media efforts influence a wide array of consumer mind-set metrics that underlie the consumer purchase decision-making process. Specifically, we relate key dimensions of a brand’s social media actions (intensity, valence and richness) to well established consumer mind-set metrics ranging from awareness through attitude to satisfaction. We hypothesize that brand actions’ intensity (more brand posts) with neutral valence and richer content will have a strong impact on the consumer mind-set. Using a unique data set that captures both social media and consumer mind-set metrics for multiple brands, we propose empirically testing our model with panel vector auto regression

A More General Definition of Equilibrium in Markets with Adverse Selection

    No full text
I provide a general definition of equilibrium in markets with adverse selection. An equilibrium is defined as a menu of contracts that makes non-negative aggregate profits such that there exists no other menu that includes it as a subset and makes strictly positive aggregate profits. I show that every efficient menu of contracts is also an equilibrium menu of contracts. Furthermore, I characterise a general sufficient condition under which every equilibrium menu of contracts is efficient, restoring that way the First Fundamental Theorem of Welfare Economics. I provide two possible interpretations for this new definition
