The structure of DSR knowledge as reflected by DESRIST - A Citation Analysis (2009-2015)
International audienceThe design science research (DSR) paradigm is now established and reco gnized within the information systems (IS) community. The members of the DSR community have a common language and shared perceptions. However, it remains to define what constitutes the fundamental issues, theories, applications, and the main findings in this area. In other words, how may the knowledge of the field be characterized? The aim of this paper is to determine and analyze the DSR body of knowledge, based on publications in the DESRIST conference. To this end, we perform a citation and co-citation analysis of the papers published in this conference between 2009 and 2015. The co-citation analysis leads to the identification of several clusters representing what we believe to be a good overview of the structure of the DSR body of knowledge. We contend that our findings will help researchers to identify DSR areas likely to lead to future research
Ties: binding and structuring a field. The case of French SRI. How field members interactions contribute to the structuration of an organizational field
International audienceThere is an increasing interest for the role of social positions to understand evolutions andchanges within organizational elds. This paper advances a new approach to understand howactors manage their connections within an organizational eld and how this in uences theirability to shape the eld and its speci c institutions. Precisely, we want to explain how institu-tions (formal and informal) of the eld come to support more the interests of some players thanothers. To do so we focus on the positions of actors in the eld and their strategies of relationalbrokerage. We de ne two di erent types of brokerage: a structural one, in the social networkanalysis tradition; and an attributive one, which relies on the relational structure of actors butalso takes into account their social characteristics
Does the Crowdfunding Platform Matter? Risks of a Negative Attitude towards the Platform in a Two-Sided Market
International audienceDespite the growing interest in crowdfunding, a major issue is the campaign success rate. Less than half of the campaigns are able to reach their goals. However, previous studies have neglected that the creator‘s open calls towards the contributor population involve an Internet platform. To fill the gap, this study investigates the impact of the platform on the contributor participation in the campaign. Drawing on two-sided market theory, the empirical study reveals that crowdfunding platform plays a central role beyond the communication function of a website. Results are consistent with this view and demonstrate the effect of risk factors that increase the negative attitude of contributors by acting on the degree of usefulness and perceived difficulty of the platform. Finally, a negative attitude towards the Internet platform reduces both the willingness to support and to share word of mouth about a project.
Endogenous Technology Adoption and Medical Costs
International audienceDespite the claimthat technology has been one of themost important drivers of healthcare spending growth over the past decades, technology variables are rarely introduced explicitly in cost equations. Furthermore, technology is often considered exogenous. Using 1996–2007 panel data on Swiss geographical areas, we assessed the impact of technology availability on per capita healthcare spending covered by basic health insurance whilst controlling for the endogeneity of health technology availability variables. Our results suggest that medical research, patent intensity and the density of employees working in the medical device industry are influential factors for the adoption of technology and can be used as instruments for technology availability variables in the cost equation. These results are similar to previous findings: CT and PET scanner adoption is associated with increased healthcare spending, whilst increased availability of percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty facilities is associated with reductions in per capita spending. However, our results suggest that the magnitude of these relationships is much greater in absolute value than that suggested by previous studies that did not control for the possible endogeneity of the availability of technologies
Is environmental disclosure good for the environment? A meta-analysis and research agenda
International audienceThis paper reviews the literature on the association between environmental disclosure and environmental performance. Results from previous studies are mixed. While some studies conducted in an economic perspective document a positive association between these two environmental dimensions, other studies obtain a negative association that they mainly explain using arguments drawn from socio-political theories. Given these conflicting results, we conduct a meta-analysis to provide an average direction and magnitude of the association between environmental disclosure and environmental performance. The meta-analysis reveals that there is no association between the environmental disclosure and the environmental performance of the 2,672 companies of our cumulated sample, and that this non-association remains constant over time despite the continuous reinforcement of environmental regulations. Based on these results, we discuss theoretical and methodological issues associated with prior literature that could explain this overall non-association and we suggest avenues for future research
Motivations for Participation and e-WOM Among Supporters of Crowdfunding Campaigns
International audienceIn the crowdfunding model, a campaign succeeds by collecting the funds required over a predefined duration. This study examines the motivations that encourage supporter participation. The results of an empirical study validate the effect of economic, philanthropic, networking, and social utility motivations on the campaign’s success. However, economic sensitivity and gender are important moderators of participation. The results also show that the feeling of social utility encourages electronic word of mouth (e-WOM) and helps develop the social capital of the project creators.
