International audienceThe wealth of information published by companies on their diversity and inclusion policies, practices and results has grown in recent years. This article studies the way in which companies explain their diversity and inclusion policy, the actions implemented and the results obtained from the analysis of the information presented by eighteen large companies (Atos, Arkema, Auchan, BPCE , Casino, Danone, Hermès, La Poste, Legrand, L’Oréal, LVMH, Michelin, PSA, Société Générale, Sopra-Steria, Sodexo, Total, Vinci) in their 2018 DPEF (Extra Financial Performance Declaration) published in 2019. This study highlights the main developments in the disclosure of social information compared to previous practices since the publication of the first compulsory social reports in 1979. The field of diversity management is widening to new sources. The policies and practices are presented in more detail with quantified objectives and measured results. The processes for the evaluation, certification and audit of information by independent third parties are specified.

Production-based pollution versus deforestation: optimal policy with state-independent and-dependent environmental absorption efficiency restoration process
International audienceAn important yet largely unexamined issue is how the interaction between deforestation and pollution affects economic and environmental sustainability. This article seeks to bridge the gap by introducing a dynamic model of pollution accumulation where polluting emissions can be mitigated and the absorption efficiency of pollution sinks can be restored. We assume that emissions are due to a production activity, and we include deforestation both as an additional source of emissions and as a cause of the exhaustion of environmental absorption efficiency. To account for the fact that the switching of natural sinks to a pollution source can be either possible, and in such a case even reversible, or impossible, we consider that restoration efforts can be either independent from or dependent on environmental absorption efficiency, i.e., state-independent versus state-dependent restoration efforts. We determine (i) whether production or deforestation is the most detrimental from environmental and social welfare perspectives, and (ii) how state-dependent restoration process affects pollution accumulation and deforestation policies and the related environmental and social welfare consequences

This Looks Like a Job for an Accountant! (with good funeral insurance): The Changing Roles of Accountants in Superhero Comics from 1938 to 2018.
International audienceThe roles of accountant characters in a coherent genre of entertainment media, and over time, remain surprisingly under-researched. In this study, it is argued that the roles of accountants in society can be interpreted from longitudinal analyses of the roles played by accountant characters in entertainment media narratives depicting fictional worlds. Analysis is provided of narratives in which actantial and thematic roles are played by accountants in 178 US superhero comics’ narrative sequences between 1938 and 2018. The sequences were those in which at least one character is presented as an accountant. The study reveals that accountants have increasingly been portrayed in more positive than negative roles since the beginning of the twenty-first century and have become symbolic superheroes. At the same time, this study also shows that individual accountants do not last long in these narratives, even though they have a positive role. This article shows how one genre of entertainment media has conveyed an improved image of accountants in fictional worlds, to give them progressively a place of importance comparable perhaps to the one that their professional bodies argue they occupy in modern society. Even if some negativity is still attached to the accountant, their image is progressively changing for a better one based on the roles they played because they are accountants
