    Assessing the Effect of Temperature on Degradation Modes of PV Panels

    International audiencePV panels are affected by many degradation modes. We list the Potential Induced Degradation, the Light Induced Degradation, the UltraViolet Light Degradation, the Moisture Induced Degradation, and the Cell Cracks. These degradation modes are affected by external environmental conditions as irradiance, temperature and humidity. The common factor that affects the degradation modes is temperature. The degradation process follows an Arrhenius equation; it is exponentially related to temperature. In this paper we evaluate precisely the effect of temperature on the degradation process of PV panels

    Plasmablastic Lymphoma: A Challenging Diagnosis

    International audienceIntroduction: Plasmablastic lymphoma (PBL) is an aggressive lymphoma characterized by early relapses and subsequent chemotherapy resistance representing therefore diagnostic and therapeutic challenge with a very poor outcome.Case Presentation: A 53-year-old- female patient presented with dyspnea and general status alteration due to anemia; diagnosed as hemolytic anemia and treated by corticotherapy without amelioration. The most recent hospitalization revealed worsening of her symptoms with weight loss of 5 kilos in one week, anorexia and lumbar pain. Physical examination showed isolated splenomegaly with no signs of bleeding, adenopathy nor a palpable breast mass. Extended laboratory tests were normal, except normocytic anemia with hemoglobin =8.76 g/dl; hct=26.6%; MCV=89.2 fl and a low haptoglobin concentration level <0.04 g/l with a high value of LDH 1165 UI/litre. Hypercalcemia of 12 mg/dl was also noted with low PTH. To complete the workup: imaging showed a total body CT scanner with absence of adenopathy, a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with no metastatic bone lesions confirming the diagnosis and a full body PET CT scanner revealing diffuse hyperactivity of the bone marrow with hypermetabolic splenomegaly, hepatomegaly and bone lytic lesion of some cervical vertebras. Bone marrow aspirate, biopsy and flow cytometry were done and in favor of lymphoma. An immunohistochemical profile shows positivity and correlates with morphology. It was compatible with Plasmablastic lymphoma (PBL). Patient received three cycles of chemotherapy (lenalidomide and CHOP) and immunomodulatory agents. But she passed away three months later.Conclusion: Despite the recent advances in therapy of aggressive lymphomas, patients with PBL have the poorest outcome. Moreover, due to its challenging diagnosis and related complications, management of PBL remains to discuss on a case by case basis

    Case Report of a 10 cm Subdued Abdominal Mass: Diagnosis and Management of a Rare Primitive Mesenteric Leiomyosarcoma

    International audienceIntroduction: Specific management schemes of the exceedingly rare primitive mesenchymal leiomyosarcomas do not exist. Reporting their behavior and management is necessary to be able to construct evidence-based directives. Case Report: We report a case of a 42-year-old Caucasian woman that presented with a large indolent abdominal mass evolving over 3 months. Two differential diagnosis were looked upon, either GIST or leiomyosarcoma. The abdomino-pelvic ct-scan proved that this tumor could be completely resected, so the patient was successfully operated within 2 weeks of the preliminary diagnosis. A monobloc negative margin resection was performed and the patient recovered on the surgical floor. The anatomopathological studies and immunohistochemistry tests confirmed the presence of a primitive mesenchymal leiomyosarcoma. The patient was recommended a follow up every 4 months with a thoraco-abdomino-pelvic ct-scan due to her economic status. Conclusion: The management of rare tumors is always challenging due to the lack of knowledge concerning its behavior and response to the various treatment modalities. Reporting this rare case of mesenchymal leiomyosarcoma and similar cases will enable a better understanding of this disease and its treatment

    Incidental discovery of right ventricular lipoma in a young female associated with ventricular hyperexcitability: An imaging multimodality approach

    International audienceBACKGROUND: Cardiac lipomas are rare benign tumors commonly found in the right atrium or left ventricle. Patients are usually asymptomatic, and clinical presentation depends on location and adjacent structures impairment. Right ventricle lipomas are scarce in the literature. Moreover, the previous published cases were reported in over 18-year-old patients.CASE SUMMARY: We report a giant right ventricle lipoma discovered incidentally in a 17-year-old female while performing preoperative work-up. The diagnosis was confirmed by histopathological examination, and a conservative approach was performed.CONCLUSION: Multimodal cardiac imaging and histopathological examination are required for a definitive diagnosis. The therapeutic approach depends on clinical presentation

    International audienceBy following the differentiated trajectories of two “state-sheikhs” in Yemen, I explore the manner in which these actors mobilize the resources related to their tribal title to construct and defend their notability and thereby maintain their place within the ruling class. Drawing upon observations and interviews conducted between 2009 and 2019, I consider the evolving value and use of tribal capital in politics and empirically examine the interlocking relations between state and tribe – first in Yemen before and after the 2011 revolution and then in Egypt, from the ordeal of exile since 2014 and the outbreak of civil war. In particular, I show that tribal capital operates at a distance as a tool of political reassertion by adapting to and continuing to confer meaning to the social and political activities of leaders who “act tribal” even when they are detached from their institutions and territories of reference.En suivant les trajectoires différenciées de deux cheikhs d’État au Yémen, j’explore la façon dont ces acteurs mobilisent les ressources afférentes à leur titre pour construire et défendre leur notabilité, et maintenir ainsi leur place au sein de la classe dirigeante yéménite. À partir d’observations et d’entretiens menés entre 2009 et 2019, j’interroge l’évolution de la valeur et des usages du référent tribal en politique et travaille concrètement la question des articulations entre État et tribu, tout d’abord au Yémen, avant et après la révolution de 2011, ensuite en Égypte, c’est-à-dire à l’épreuve de l’exil, depuis 2014 et le déclenchement de la guerre civile. Je montre notamment que le référent tribal opère comme un outil de reclassement politique à distance, en s’ajustant et en continuant de donner du sens aux activités politiques et sociales de dirigeants qui « jouent la tribu » (act tribal) alors même qu’ils sont détachés de leurs institutions et de leurs territoires de référence

    International audienceGas chromatography mass spectrometry analysis together with principal component analysis revealed that geographical origin influenced the yield and composition of the essential oils (EOs) extracted by hydrodistillation performed for 3 h using a Clevenger-type apparatus, from the cones of Gedrus libani A. Rich., growing wild at four Lebanese natural reserves and protected areas: Bsharri, Chouf, Ehden, and Tannourine, and from a cultivated cedar growing in Qartaba. Essential oil chemical variability established between the different studied provenances suggested the involvement of abiotic factors such as geographical conditions, cultivation conditions, soil composition, and environmental factors in the chemical polymorphism of C. libani cones EOs. alpha-Pinene/beta-pinene characterized Ehden (beta-pinene 35.6%/alpha-pinene 27.7%), Chouf (alpha-pinene 37.3%/beta-pinene 26.1%), Bsharri (alpha-pinene 27.7%/beta-pinene 21.4%), and Tannourine (alpha-pinene 25.1%/beta-pinene 16.0%) samples, whereas Qartaba EO was distinguished by the dominance of myrcene (30.6%), alpha-pinene(26%), and limonene (14.1%). Comparison with the existing literature reinforced the chemical variability of C. libani EOs. This current study helped the estimation of a best harvest location for a good EO quality production, resource optimization, and pharmacological properties evaluation, according to the market demand

    International audienceAs the most promising biomass utilization method, biomass gasification is gaining attention as a route for biomass energy production, but the syngas generated from the process contains unacceptable levels of tar. The syngas in reality leads to a liquid–liquid–vapor equilibrium. This syngas becomes saturated with water steam, solvent, and trace of volatile tar. The aim of this work is to study the liquid–(liquid)–vapor equilibrium of extracting solvents (P-xylene, methyl hexadecanoate, and methyl oleate), binary systems (water + solvents), and ternary systems (water + methyl hexadecanoate + model molecule of tar) and to determine the vapor pressure for those systems from 303.15 to 453.15 K. Vaporization enthalpies of each solvent at 298.15 K are also calculated and compared to the literature. The obtained data were correlated using the nonrandom two-liquid (NRTL) model for the liquid phase combined with the perfect gas equation for the vapor phase

    Factors associated with anxiety among the Lebanese population: the role of alexithymia, self-esteem, alcohol use disorders, emotional intelligence and stress and burnout

    International audienceObjective: To assess factors associated with anxiety among a sample of the Lebanese population.Methods: A cross-sectional, conducted between November 2017 and March 2018, enrolled 789 participants. Anxiety was measured using the Hamilton Anxiety Scale. A cluster analysis was then performed with the identified factor scores to identify the different profiles of the participants.Results: A cluster analysis based on the three factors derived three mutually exclusive clusters, which form 29.62%, 34.54%, and 35.84% of all participants, respectively. The first cluster represented people in distress (low emotional intelligence, high depersonalisation, alcohol use disorder, burnout, stress, alexithymia and low self-esteem); the second one represented people with wellbeing (High emotional intelligence, low depersonalisation, low alcohol use disorder, low burnout, low stress, low alexithymia and high self-esteem), whereas cluster 3 represented people in between. Higher age (Beta = 0.065) was significantly associated with higher anxiety, whereas being in cluster 2 (people with wellbeing) (Beta = -12.37) and cluster 3 (people in between) (Beta = -5.426) were significantly associated with lower anxiety compared to being in cluster 1 (people in distress).Conclusions: The findings of this study are overall consistent with those of epidemiologic community-based surveys and may help inform structural models of classification and prediction of anxiety disorders (ADs)

    Geometrical optimization for a photovoltaic installation equipped with flat reflectors based on plane of array estimations

    International audienceIn order to design, manage and optimize the performance of a photovoltaic (PV) installation and establish a precise power production estimation, irradiance on the plane of array (POA) in relation with the geometrical characteristics of the PV modules installation occupies a high importance. This study focuses on the development of an estimation model of the POA irradiance for a photovoltaic installation equipped with flat reflectors. The model includes solar irradiance components (global, direct and diffuse), geometrical parameters and geographical characteristics of the PV installation. Experimental validations have been performed with measurements taken at the SIRTA Observatory (48.7°N, 2.2°E) in Palaiseau, France, for the period starting from June 2017 to June 2018. Results show mean absolute errors (relative to the mean) of 6% and 7% for an installation without and with planar reflector. Finally, we present several geometrical optimization strategies of the PV-reflector installation relying on two major variables: the reflector's length (LR) compared to the length of the PV module (LPV) and the tilt angle adjustment frequency (monthly, seasonally, fixed) of the system (for both PV and the reflectors). The objective of such optimization is to discuss about a reasonable configuration to achieve a maximum POA irradiance. Results show that the length of the mirrors highly affects the efficiency and performances of the PV-Reflector system and the annual gain increased from 8.5% to 28.7% when going from LR = LPV/2 to LR = 2 × LPV compared to a monthly-optimized installation without mirrors. As for the adjustment frequency, we show that a monthly-varied architecture is the most advantageous option with a 28.2 and 31.6% increasing in annual gain compared to a seasonal varied or fixed ones, respectively
