Beyond monetary well-being : can sociabilities offset the effects of low income ? A case study in the Grenoble metropolitan area
No full textInternational audienceLe Roy and Ottaviani report on a collaborative project involving professionals and academics to generate local, sustainable and alternative indicators of well-being: the IBEST project. The purpose is to reveal the complexity of the various connections between monetary resources and sociabilities. Even though social relations are a central topic of Grenoble’s urban policies and are considered essential to the well-being of the city’s inhabitants, they have never before been quantified. To assess the different sociabilities and the role they play in well-being, the IBEST project is based on several principles, including an approach founded on Sen’s capabilities. The main data collection instrument is a questionnaire comprising 86 questions. Several variables related to people’s actions, aspirations and appreciation of their situation are used to assess relational and institutional sociabilities. The authors show that while monetary wealth does not necessarily go hand in hand with a dense social network and personal satisfaction, it does influence the existence of relationships based on trust and the possibility to reach for help. Therefore, the analysis of social bonds cautions against a simplistic approach to sociabilities and the relationships between monetary and non-monetary resources. The analysis also shows the complexity of the relations between variables included in the notion of well-being, which limits the identification of clear cause-and-effect relationships between interpersonal and institutional sociability

No full textInternational audience-En 2015, un danger d'éboulement de la montagne conduit à couper la route départementale 1091 entre la Haute Romanche et Grenoble. Cette coupure provoque une crise sociale et économique à La Grave et Villar-d'Arêne, deux communes desservies par cette route ; crise qui perdure malgré le rétablissement de la circulation. Cet article propose une analyse qualitative du processus de vulnérabilisation du territoire de Haute Romanche au prisme des interférences, des tensions et des complémentarités qui ont émergé entre la dynamique propre de l'aléa, les processus de décision politique, les expériences (subjectives et pratiques) des populations locales et les enquêtes des chercheurs en sciences sociales et de l'environnement
Studying Organizations on the Move: Towards more Embodied Experience in our Research Practices
No full textInternational audienceAs a result of increased mobility, leading to phenomena such as telework, remote work, flex work, and new workplaces, ‘the organization’ is no longer identified by people’s presence in a fixed location. Work itself is not grounded any more in a specific location. People do not go to work but work in mobility. As researchers, we face the challenge of grasping these new forms of organization and organizing in more open and public spheres – defined here as ‘organizations on the move’. This new working context reinforces an idea already relayed by the organizational ethnographic literature: taking the embodied experience into consideration. Although there is an interest in the role of embodiment in our field, the potential of relying on our physical experience in movement as a basis for qualitative research in Management and Organization Studies remains undertheorized. With this paper, we extend an invitation to Management and Organization Studies (MOS) scholars to integrate their own embodied experiences into their research practice. Basically, it through their experience of movement that researchers can understand work as a movement.We draw on a phenomenological perspective about sensibility and embodiment in order to develop guidelines for an embodied research practice in MOS

No full textEcuador is a small, dollarized country, primo oil exporter and far from global shipping networks. It has, however, managed in a decade to become the world’s third largest exporter of cut flowers by entering global value chains. This success is based on the adoption of a unique economic model, based on small flower farms and customized production. Counter-intuitive to the standard approaches and practices of the main competing countries, this export model remains very fragile.Ecuador es un pequeño país dolarizado, principalmente exportador de petróleo alejado de las redes marítimas mundiales. Sin embargo, en una década, ha logrado convertirse en el tercer exportador mundial de flores cortadas al ingresar a las cadenas de valor globales. Este éxito se basa en la adopción de un modelo económico único, basado en pequeñas fincas florícolas y producción a medida. En contraposición con los enfoques estándar y las prácticas de los principales países competidores, este modelo de exportación sigue siendo muy frágil
La perspective des affordances pour comprendre les relations entre organisations et TIC
No full textInternational audienceThe objective of this paper is to enrich the Affordance Theory application on Information Systems literature. This paper follows the implementation of a CRM project, which includes ambitious Big data and Business Intelligence components, on an international organization. This research focuses on exploring the relationship between the organization and the Information System implemented project under the lens of the Affordance Theory. In result several affordances are identified, and their actualization analyzed under the Process-based Framework for Affordances. The results are used to improve the theoretical framework for future research on Information Systems.L'objectif de cet article est d'enrichir la théorie des affordances dans son application aux Systèmes d'information. Du point de vue empirique, cet article suit la mise en oeuvre d'un projet de CRM, qui comprend des composants Big Data et Business Intelligence, au sein d'une organisation internationale. Cette recherche se concentre sur l'exploration des relations entre l'organisation et la TIC mis en oeuvre en s'appuyant sur le cadre théorique des affordances. En conséquence, plusieurs opportunités sont identifiées et leur actualisation analysées suivant le processus d'actualisation des affordances. Les résultats sont utilisés pour améliorer le cadre théorique de référence pour des recherches futures en Systèmes d'Information

No full textInternational audienceThis book provides new insights into how the concept of bricolage is used to foster research on social entrepreneurship.The contributors assess the relevance of the concept from a theoretical point of view, questioning the concept and its relationships with similar concepts or theories, like those of effectuation and improvisation; use the concept of bricolage to study processes by which social entrepreneurs make their business grow; and investigate the diversity of social entrepreneurial situations and, as a consequence, the variety of forms (and effects) of bricolage practices.The primary objective of this book is thus to shed light on bricolage in social entrepreneurship, especially at the intersection of different levels of analysis and in different contexts. It takes stock of existing research at the intersection of both concepts and looks at future research avenues. This book was originally published as a special issue of Entrepreneurship and Regional Development
A Twenty-Year Citation Analysis of the Knowledge Outflow and Inflow Patterns from the Journal of Product Innovation Management
No full textInternational audienceSince its inception in 1984, an emphasis on cross-functionality and interdisciplinary research was encrypted into the DNA of the Journal of Product and Innovation Management (JPIM). This essay explores the extent to which the journal has served as a platform for exchange of ideas between different disciplines by examining knowledge outflow and inflow with other scientific journals and disciplines over a 20-year period (1994-2013). Based on an extensive bibliometric database, we gain insights about how JPIM has evolved. We show that the journal has become a gatekeeper, importing knowledge mostly from the marketing and management literatures, and exporting knowledge to the technology and innovations management and the operations management domains
