Towards predicting Hexad user types from smartphone data
Tailoring gamified systems has been shown to be appreciated and more effective than "one-size-fits-all'' systems. A promising approach is using the Hexad user types model. However, obtaining the Hexad user type requires users to fill out a questionnaire, preventing an automated adaptation. Since smartphone data was shown to be linked to personality traits, which in turn were shown to be linked to the Hexad user types, we explore to what extent it can be used to predict the score of each user type. In our study (N=122) we found regression models, indicating that using smartphone data to predict user types is promising and may allow to tailor gamified systems without explicit user interaction
Crowdjump: investigating a player-driven platform game
We present Crowdjump, a player-driven online platform game: players could post ideas on how to improve the game, the platform, or any related aspect. Continuously, all players could then choose ideas which were implemented and released on a daily basis. We conducted an exploratory study with 25 players over the course of 23 days and aimed at releasing two features per day. We analyzed idea types and could show that players did not change an idea voting scheme based on up- and down-votes and were more focused on changing the game than any other component. In contrast, features that would improve the community feeling or would help to improve ideas of others were not often suggested or selected. Nonetheless, the experience was rated as quite enjoyable by players, showing the appeal of such a player-driven game design approach and the relevancy for further research in this context
Gamified ads: bridging the gap between user enjoyment and the effectiveness of online ads
While the use of ad blockers prevents negative impacts of advertising on user experience, it poses a serious threat to the business model of commercial web services and freely available content on the web. As an alternative, we investigate the user enjoyment and the advertising effectiveness of playfully deactivating online ads. We created eight game concepts, performed a pre-study assessing the users' perception of them (N=50) and implemented three well-perceived ones. In a lab study (N=72), we found that these game concepts are more enjoyable than deactivating ads without game elements. Additionally, one game concept was even preferred over using an ad blocker. Notably, playfully deactivating ads was shown to have a positive impact on users' brand and product memory, enhancing the advertising effectiveness. Thus, our results indicate that playfully deactivating ads is a promising way of bridging the gap between user enjoyment and effective advertising

The development and transformation of mainstream notions on ‘Career Guidance’. A discourse analysis on EU policy papers on (un)employment
The Policies of the First Green-Red Government in the German Federal State of Baden-Württemberg, 2011–2016
In recent years, green parties have gained, at least in some Western
democracies, access to government at different levels. In 2011, a coalition between
the Green Party under Winfried Kretschmann and the Social Democratic Party (SPD)
came to power in Baden-Württemberg (BW) following 58 years of predominantly
Christian Democratic (CDU) government in the state. The present paper analyzes
whether this change of government has led to a corresponding “green–red” policy
change. Applying a fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) to 12 different policy sectors, we find evidence of remarkable changes in policy in some key
areas related to Green politics, and evidence also of both Social Democratic reforms
and path dependence in many other sectors. The results of our fsQCA show that
the responsibility of Social Democratic politicians for the ministries in the respective policy sectors in financially relevant policy sectors was enough reason for the
implementation of far-reaching reforms. Social Democratic ministries in financially
relevant policy sectors with a rather low degree of political leeway brought in Social
Democratic policy solutions. Moreover, a sufficient reason for some Green policy
manifestations was the combination of Green Party ministries in more regulatory
policy sectors with a rather high degree of political leewa
