Introduction: The practice of a physical activity makes it possible to reduce the overall mortality and particularly of cardiovascular origin. The city of Saint-Paul (Réunion) has set up a support system for the resumption of adapted physical activity for sedentary adults suffering from chronic diseases, "Sports on Prescription". A weekly hour of physical activity is prescribed by the practical doctor. Material and Methods: The proposed work is a cohort study, retrospective, interventional. 408 beneficiaries were included between September 2014 and December 2017. Our primary endpoint is to compare a validated morphological criterion, and correlated with mortality, a body shape index (ABSI) at entry and after 3 months in the support system by a Student's t test. Secondary endpoints are to compare other morphological variables, perceived health and pain. Results: A significant reduction of ABSI was observed (-0.0014, 95% CI [0.0010, 0.0018] p <0.0001). All other observed morphological variables (weight, BMI, waist circumference and waist-to-waist ratio) decreased significantly. The average perceived health (fitness, appearance, diet, fatigue, stress and health status) increases significantly. 257 beneficiaries were painful (spine, upper limbs and / or lower limb). We find a significant decrease of pain scale on the spine and lower limbs. Conclusion: The system support seems effective from three months of practice with a significant decrease in our primary endpoint.
Has China replaced colonial trade?
International audienceChina is often suspected of taking over the extraordinary trade relationships that former colonies had within colonial empires. Besides preferential bilateral relationships built after independence, the two other potential determinants of the increase in trade with China are the improvement in China’s export capacity and the natural redirection caused by independence. We investigate and quantify the three reasons that explain the level of former colonies’ trade flows with China. Using structural gravity equations, we show that methodological issues can be largely responsible for displaying and estimating abnormally high trade levels between former colonies and China. Increased trade between these pairs of countries is the result of unilateral factors rather than more intense bilateral preferences. We then measure the reorientation of trade flows from former colonies’ metropoles towards China and show that independence has produced the expected redistribution: trade flows with China would be 15% lower, had former colonies not become independent

Ground Level Deployment of Wireless Sensor Networks: Experiments, Evaluation and Engineering Insight
International audienceIn this paper, we are interested in characterizing the link properties of a wireless sensor network with nodes deployed at ground level. Such a deployment is fairly common in practice, e.g., when monitoring the vehicular traffic on a road segment or the status of infrastructures such as bridges, tunnels or dams. However, the behavior of off-the-shelf wireless sensor nodes in these settings is not yet completely understood. Through a thorough experimentation campaign, we evaluated not only the impact of the ground proximity on the wireless links, but also the impact of some parameters such as the packet payload, the communication channel frequency and the topography of the deployment area. Our results show that a ground-level deployment has a significant negative impact on the link quality, while parameters such as the packet size produce unexpected consequences. This allows us to parameter classical theoretical models in order to fit a ground-level deployment scenario. Finally, based on the lessons learned in our field tests, we discuss some considerations that must be taken into account during the design of communication protocols and before the sensor deployment in order to improve network performance
Modelling and dynamic simulation of solar heat integration into a manufacturing process in Réunion Island
International audienceAccording to the International Energy Agency, solar thermal energy is rarely used in industrial sector, despite its capacity to generate heat with the existing technologies. Moreover, a large part of the firms of Réunion Island are in the food-processing industry, which is the most heat consuming sector according to these studies. Among them, the Sorélait-Danone company (yoghurt production) has decided to collaborate so as to analyze the potential impact of solar heat integration into its actual heat generation system. The company has a fuel boiler which generates 7 bar saturated vapor (corresponding to a temperature of 165°C) at a nominal flow rate of 2,5 tons per hour. This boiler is supplied by a tank filled with water. In the latter, condensate coming from the process unit is mixed with the district's cold water, in order to compensate the vapor lost in the process. In this work, possibilities in terms of solar heat integration into the system have been investigated. 4 different cases have been simulated (direct or indirect integration, into the mixing tank or the boiler tank) and the corresponding saved fuel quantities have been estimated. The results of simulation show that in the best case, a fuel saving of 25 % can be expected with a total collector area of 600 m² for this company
