Ino Tadataka was the first person in Japan to conduct a scientific survey of the entire country and to create an accurate map of Japan, and he had a high level of geographical knowledge. Sokuryo-nikki (survey diary) was written by Tadataka Ino as an official journal of his nationwide surveying activities. The regional characteristics of each areas can be gleaned from the descriptions in Sokuryo-nikki. Therefore, in this paper, the writer analyzed the regional characteristics of the mainland Sanuki Province based on the descriptions in Sokuryo-nikki. The results are summarized as follows. Regional special and supplementary descriptions including regional characteristics accounted for 31.0% of the total, with descriptions of famous and historic sites such as Matsuyama,Matsugaura (utamakura;repeatedly quoted in waka poems), Kumoi-no-gosho (Kumoi imperial palace) and Dannoura (Genpei ancient battlefield) showing the regional characteristics of mainland Sanuki Province. And visiting Konpira Shrine and visiting 88 shrines in Shikoku can be seen as regional characteristics. In addition, the village headman was called “Shouya” in the Marugame and Tadotsu domain, but “Mandokoro” in the Takamatsu domain, indicating regional differences.departmental bulletin pape
