The perfect mask: examining the diligence in masking in Daniel black's perfect peace and Obery Hendricks's living water, 2011
This thesis examines the efforts necessary to mask and the aftermath in doing so as illustrated in Daniel Blacks Perfect Peace and Obery Hendrickss Living Water. The focus of this study is to explore how Black and Hendricks demonstration of Dunbars concept of masking evolves from societal oppression. The environment and social constructions within the two novels centralizes the cause to wear the mask. The female characters discussed in this paper tacitly agree with their oppressors to at least pretend to submit to their own oppression. Black and Hendricks develop female characters that emerge from their oppression and achieve self-assertion. The female characters redefine and redeem themselves through unconventional concepts of heroism
Black females and the risk behaviors associated with contracting HIV/AIDS, 1993
The purpose of this study was: 1) to assess likely FSPs of IVDUs knowledge of HIV/AIDs, and their use of risk reduction technique and 2) to examine the nature of their sexual relationships with male IVDU sex partners, and those risks associated with contracting the virus. Personal interviews were conducted with 30 black female volunteers, using clients from the New Start Substance Abuse Program, Atlanta West Drug Treatment Center, and Bolton West Women's Recovery Program. The data were analyzed using correlation statistics and qualitative information obtained from interviews. The level of significant difference was set at 0.05. The results indicate no significant difference in FSPs' knowledge of HIV/AIDS transmission, and their use of risk reduction technique: however, FSPs with more reduction than those FSPs in monogamous relationships
Homelessness in the City of Atlanta
The primary focus of this study is to determine the impact that Atlanta City urban renewal practices have on the conditions of homelesssness [sic]. It is argued within the confines of this paper that these practices contribute significantly to the rise of homelessness. This perspective can be documented via historical data and examining the dominant role of Atlanta's commercial elite in the policy making process in regard to housing. Nonetheless, a portrait of the homeless in Atlanta is provided to illustrate the seriousness of this urban ill and who are affected the most. The rate of homelessness serves as the dependent variable whereas urban renewal practices (gentrification) allowed by Atlanta government serve as the independent variable

Time, Money, and Effort: A Practical Approach to Digital Content Management, 2016
For libraries and archives, the digital content management and preservation landscape is rapidly evolving. As digital projects evolve into digital programs focusing on the mass digitization of entire collections, institutions are faced with ensuring long term accessibility to vast quantities of digital assets. "Most institutions," according to a Portico and Cornell University Library report, "are only beginning to understand that their investment in creating digital collections must be met with a commitment and infrastructure to protect this content for its lifetime." As digital collections grow exponentially, institutions are faced with the challenge of providing continued access as well as long term preservation. The systems and options for the management, presentation, and preservation of digital assets are numerous. Each has its pros and cons, whether an out-of-the-box, vendor-provisioned system, or an open-source application where the source code is free and openly available for use and modification. Some platforms focus on preservation, others on presentation, and still others on content management. Company mergers, upgrades and even dissolutions further complicate the problem. Like many mid-sized academic institutions, the Atlanta University Center Robert W. Woodruff Library (AUC Woodruff Library) found itself in need of assessment and consolidation of existing digital content management platforms as digital collections rapidly expand. This article addresses the process this institution undertook to evaluate the digital content management and preservation landscape in order to inform future growth and expansion of its digital program
