Get PDFThis study examines the motivations of the terrorist organization al Qaeda in facilitating the September 11 terrorist attacks involving the hijacking of four commercial jets and the subsequent crashing of two of these aircraft into the World Trade Center in New York, one into the Pentagon in Washington D.C., and a fourth into an abandoned field. This study was based on the premise that extending Hobbes's concept of the egoistic state of nature to the conditions prevalent in international relations lends itself to an explanatory analysis of what motivated al Qaeda to facilitate the September 11 terrorist attacks. A descriptive analysis of the applicable aspects of Hobbes's political philosophy was performed for the purpose of establishing a conceptual relationship between Hobbes's notion of the egoistic state of nature and the violent conditions that exist in global affairs that lead to political violence like the September 11 terrorist attacks. The conclusions drawn from the findings suggest that there is a conceptual relationship between Hobbes's concept of the egoistic state of nature extended to international relations and the motivations that led al Qaeda to facilitate the September 11 attacks. Secondly, if steps are not taken to lessen the Hobbesian state of nature conditions prevalent in international affairs, then terrorist acts like the September 11 attacks will continue in the future

Get PDFThis study examined the relationship of the Hip Hop culture on the attitudes of African-American young adults toward marriage, education, and family. The linkages between Hip Hop culture on African-American young adults' attitudes have only recently been studied; much more work remains to improve our understanding of this relationship. The target population for the research was composed of young adults' ages 18-24. One hundred and eleven respondents were selected, utilizing nonprobability convenience sampling from among the participants of the selected Atlanta site for the study. In sum, there was no statistically significant relationship established between Hip Hop culture on the attitudes of African-American young adults toward marriage, education, and family
The effect that African American fathers have on their sons: Nonresidential fathers and a present father in the school
No full textThis study explores the effects that African American fathers have on their son. The type of African American fathers that were examined were those that were nonresidential and those that were active in their son's education. These areas were both individually analyzed to completely understand them. The similarities and differences were discussed to determine if there is or is not a commonality and correlation between them. The information that was retrieved does help establish an argument that these factors have an impact on the son's lives individually and combined, The findings of this research propose that fathers are a determining factor in how their sons succeed in life and there is a need for social workers to be sensitive to that idea
