An analysis of the city of East Point administration of economic development programs, 1984
The primary intent of this degree paper is to present a historical analysis of an urban economic development program in the city of East Point, Georgia. An attempt has been made to provide a useful overview of urban economic development tools and techniques which are currently being used by communities around the country. The achievement of economic development tools and techniques which are currently being used by communities around the country. The achievement of economic development objectives in most cities will depend on the creation and/or application of a comprehensive economic approach. Because there is not a formula that guarantees success, local officials will need to develop a strategy based on a realistic assessment of what the city's economic future can be. This will require active and appropriate assistance from both public and private sectors. Since it is important for both public and private sectors to play an equal role in the urban economic development process, the writer has chosen to deal specifically with public-private cooperation in urban development rather than a general discussion on urban economic development. The significance of the study lies in its analysis of the public-private efforts to economically develop urban areas, the City of East Point a special case study. The study utilized information from: Public Research and Management, Inc. (Atlanta) ; Real Estate Research and Management. Inc. (Chicago); and Roberts and Eicher Associates, Inc. (Atlanta) provide some of the data for the study. Also, publications, congressional journals. and scholarly journals are used to provide an overview of available economic development tools and techniques
