An analysis of the administration of a criminal justice grant in the city of Atlanta's department of public safety- project propinquity
The primary intent of this paper is to present the importance of the management of Law Enforcement Assistance Administration grant funds with prescribed policies and procedures for the successful operation and management of grant programs. The management of Law Enforcement Assistance Administration grant funds is presented as critical to the continued success of its grant programs. With more stringent federal requirements imposed on grantor agencies and their grantees, it becomes very important that grant funds are administered in accordance with these requirements. The management of Law Enforcement Assistance Administration grant funds is discussed in terms of the importance of complying with grantor requirements. Compliance is a means of the grantee successfully accomplishing its goals and objectives. Recommendations are given for the futures success and survival of Project Propinquity
An analysis of residential water demand in Georgia
In recent years, Georgia has experienced record-breaking spring and summer droughts. Increasing population and urbanization have also created concern about the availability of water, especially for residential use. Several steps have been taken to address this problem, including voluntary and mandatory restrictions on water use. Politicians and engineers have argued that the construction of 'reregulation' dams was the most feasible solution. The premise of this study is that future water supply problems are primarily economic. It analyses the demand characteristics of Georgia's residential water market. A theoretical model was developed using price, income, value of residence, percent of white population, age, percent of rural population, and percent of owner-occupied housing units as independent variables and quantity of water demanded as the dependent variable. The parameters of the model was estimated using ordinary least squares regression techniques. The results of this study show that the price of water can be used to adjust the quantity demanded during periods of high demand or low supply. In other words, before expensive construction which may necessitate a price rise is undertaken, the effect of price changes on demand and revenue should be considered
An investigation of factors which influence patterns of alumni giving at Atlanta University
The problem that stimulated this study is rooted in what are considered to be serious conditions that historically black, colleges and universities face in the 1980s: declining enrollments and decreasing public and private support. For these institutions, former students alumni - represent a significant source of private financial support. This study examined the characteristics of alumni who contributed to their alma mater and those who did not. A descriptive survey method, using the Atlanta University as a case study, was employed in the study. The data were collected from responses to a mailed questionnaire developed by the researcher. The data were analyzed using correlation coefficient at the . 05 level of significance. The null hypotheses proposed that there is no statistically significant difference between donors and non-donors and: (1) perceptions of quality of education; (2) level of involvement in the Alumni Association and other alumni activities; and (3) adequacy of communications from Atlanta University about its needs and programs. The results indicated that alumni who were involved in the Alumni Association and participated in A.U. alumni activities were more financially supportive than alumni who were not involved. There were no statistically significant relationships between donor status and perceptions of quality of education and adequacy of communications from the University regarding needs and programs. The implications of the findings are that informed and active alumni do not develop automatically. The University must give attention to donor needs and interests. There must be a systematized approach to encouraging alumni giving
An exploratory study of male adolescent sex offenders and non sex offenders perceptions of their family members, peer relationships and self esteem
This study examines the perceptions of adolescent sex offenders and non-sex offenders to their family members, peer relationships and self-esteem. The study was based on the premises that there is a significant difference between male adolescent sex offenders and adolescent non-sex offenders perceptions towards their family members, peer relationships and self-esteem. To obtain this objective, the following factors were addressed by the researcher: (a) demographic information, (b) previous victimization, (c) perception of their self-esteem, (d) perception towards peer relationships, and (e) perception towards family members. This study was administered at two locations. The sample population consisted of (15) male adolescent sex offenders from an adolescent psychiatric residential treatment facility located in Atlanta, Georgia. The second sample consisted of (15) adolescent male adolescent non-sex offenders who were from the DeKalb shelter in Stone Mountain, Georgia. The entire sample population of male adolescents ranged from 12-17 years of age. Sixty-three percent of the entire sample populations were African American. The participants were administered a 43-item questionnaire to assess demographics, victimization data, attitudes of self-esteem, peer relationships and attitudes of their family members. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The T-test measurement is used to define the variables. The findings suggest that there are statistical significances from the sampled population (N=30) with the factors of the perceptions of their self-esteem and peer relationships. The research indicates that the male adolescent sex offenders reported having a statistical difference in regards to peer relationship and self-esteem as it relates to the non-sex offender. The results and implications of the findings for the field of social work are discussed
A mathematical model of urban traffic flow
We study a particular traffic network where the volume of traffic is regulated by controlling the traffic signals at each intersection. We make an appropriate choice of uw where v=0,..., k, which will enable us to control the traffic signals. Our objective is to move one traffic configuration to another (ideal or appropriate) traffic configuration so we may stop configuration within our network. Numerical examples were used to specifically demonstrate the effect of uv to our model. The calculations were implemented using a mathematical tool, MathCad Plus
A descriptive study of the African American church as a support system for adolescents
This was a descriptive study that examined the attitudes adolescents have toward support systems. The study emphasized support groups as a source of support for adolescents. The purpose of the study was to examine the support systems in the African American church. The study population consisted of 76 adolescents in the Columbia Conference District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Findings concluded that in some categories of support systems some of the responses were negative, while in the majority of the categories the respondents had an overall positive attitude toward the churc
A study of the impact of parent-child relationship, socio-economic level, and parental absence on delinquent behaviors in juveniles
This study explores the impact of parent-child relationship, socio-economic level and parental absence on delinquent behaviors in juveniles. It attempts to determine if there is a significant relationship between the three independent variables and the dependent variable. A random sampling of 47 youth was conducted in studying the relationship. The major findings in the study conclude that there is a significant impact of parent-child relationship, socio-economic level and parental absence on delinquent behaviors in juveniles
