The Effect of Risk Communication on the Happiness of People During the COVID-19 Pandemic in Thailand

    No full text
The pandemic of 2020 and onwards, caused the Thai government to adopt a similar curfew and socially restrictive policies as most countries worldwide. Previously, a lack of effective antivirals, economic burdens, and governmental denial, amongst other problems, caused a rise in poor communication outcomes. The purpose of this study was path analysis of the relationships between the factors with risk communication in a pandemic period relating to the happiness and wellness of people in Thailand. The study was undertaken between April and June 2020. A path model was tested in a sample of 907 participants who were Naresuan University students and other people on social networking sites. The responses to this online survey were analysed by multiple regression. The results revealed that the happiness factor increases by an average of 5.9 when media exposure and the demographic variables including age, gender, education, income and employment contributed positively to predicting the risk perception of COVID-19 pandemic panic whereas income negatively predicted the prevention of COVID and attitudes towards the AID policy. Associations between levels of distress and fear of death and information seeking regarding COVID-19 through the media, and social media use for support – and the risk perception through media was found (βpanic= .10, p < .001; βprevention = .23, p < .001; βsocial distancing = .14, p < .05). To sum up, information distributed by local public address systems and interpersonal communications with local leaders, public health doctors and public health volunteers was considered to be easily understood. These forms of communication supplied information on the situation and helped to confirm the beliefs of local people. The qualitative research found this law has engendered benefits to drug users/abusers by taking them to obtain treatment and rehabilitation without being prosecuted and criminally recorded. The ex-post evaluation of the law resulted these following findings: 1) On searching side: goal, indicators or attitudes of officials among related agencies are diverse in taking drug users to obtain treatment and rehabilitation and taking legal proceeding, 2) On screening side: probably inexplicit categorization of drug taker, drug user and drug addict causes taking drug users to obtain treatment and rehabilitation not conforming to severity of drug use, 3) On treatment and rehabilitation side: the Behavioral Modification Centers for Drug Addicts admitting drug users into rehabilitation only on an occasional basis causes a gap as drug users are lack of unceasing chance for access to treatment and rehabilitation, and 4) On aftercare of rehabilitated people side: the aftercare cannot be incessantly done. Accordingly, the researcher suggested a creation of a network system for searching or identifying the drug users in communities, a development of the screening and treatment system with appropriate categorization of target groups pursuant to level of their drug involvement and a development of the prototype community of treatment and rehabilitation through the community’s participation. Brand Authenticity and Consumers’ Willingness to Recommend by Word-of-Mouth: The Mediating Effect of Brand Attachment

This study aimed to investigate the impact of brand authenticity dimensions (namely continuity, integrity, credibility, and symbolism) on consumers’ propensity to engage in word-of-mouth recommendations (RWOM) within the cell phone sector. Grounded in the Cognitive-Affective-Behavioral Theory and Self-congruity Theory, the study further probed the mediating role of brand attachment in the association between brand authenticity and RWOM. By employing quantitative methodologies and snowball sampling, the study garnered responses from 515 Chinese participants, aged 18 and above, who are users of China’s top six cell phone brands. The data was critically examined using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The outcomes revealed that all dimensions of brand authenticity had a notable positive correlation with both RWOM and brand attachment, with brand credibility exhibiting the most potent influence. Moreover, brand attachment was confirmed to bolster RWOM positively. Intriguingly, brand attachment emerged as a partial mediator linking brand authenticity’s dimensions with RWOM. These insights not only augment the academic discourse surrounding brand authenticity and RWOM but also furnish practical guidelines for corporations aiming to fortify authentic branding and foster consumer recommendation tendencies. Enterprises specializing in mobile phone brands should prioritize the genuineness of their branding. They should amplify the promotion of their unique brand strengths, bolstering consumers’ recognition of the brand’s authenticity. Simultaneously, it’s crucial to tap into consumers’ emotional resonance, deepening their allegiance to the brand. This strategy not only promotes a favorable brand image among consumers but also fosters positive word-of-mouth, further solidifying its esteemed reputation. Development and Validation of the Parental Involvement Scale (PIS)

    No full text
This study presents the development and validation of an evaluation instrument aimed at assessing parents’ involvement in their children’s education, utilizing a two-phase approach. During the development stage, items were meticulously generated through literature reviews and interviews, followed by a rigorous validation process by experts who carefully recognized each item, considering both content and expression. The validation stage involved piloting the instrument with 27 respondents, resulting in high reliability. Subsequently, using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) on responses from 310 high school parents, the construct validity revealed 33 components out of 60, ultimately culminating in four distinct constructs: parental love and guidance (15 items), parent-teacher communication (8 items), participation in school activities (6 items), and parental satisfaction (4 items). The convergence of these constructs facilitates active parental involvement and enhances positive learning experiences. Further validation and confirmation of the developed parental involvement scale for flexible learning is recommended for future research. Production of Low-Fat Coconut Milk Using -Cyclodextrin Column for Selective Removal of Saturated Fatty Acids

The objective of this study was to develop a low-fat coconut milk product by selectively removing saturated fatty acids from coconut milk using b-cyclodextrin (b-CD). The optimal b-CD loading was 50% weight per milk volume at a temperature of 4°C and contact time of 30 min. Approximately 48.9±0.8% of the total fatty acids, especially lauric acid, were removed. A continuous process for fat removal was developed using consecutive b-CD columns. The fat contents in the coconut milk after passing through the first b-CD column were reduced from 18.9±0.4% to 10.5±0.3% and passing through the second b-CD column reduced the fat contents by a further 6.7±0.1%. Interestingly, these fatty acids can be recovered, and b-CD can be reused after elution by ethanol. The sensory evaluation showed that the low-fat coconut milk from the 1st column was acceptable and comparable to the raw material while having a lower fat content. This study has shown the practical and effective application of b-CD for removing medium-chain saturated fatty acids and may apply to other types of high-fat raw materials, creating healthy choices for consumers.
