An Analysis of Environmental Elements in the Novel "Paagal Khana”
The postmodern situation of the twentieth century, with its alienation and anguish, has led contemporary humans to reconsider their detachment from nature. Nature maintains a certain balance, and when that balance is disrupted, it reacts strongly to restore equilibrium—a reaction that all phenomena and creatures must endure. In the modern era, humans are often blamed for disturbing this balance. The wave of environmental awareness has connected literary creativity worldwide and highlighted new possibilities for the ecological study of literature.
The novel “Paagal Khana” (Madhouse) is based on nuclear radiation and its harmful effects. Through the novel, the author expresses a painful realization—that people remain unaware of the impending devastation. They fail to grasp that radiation has affected humans, animals, birds, plants, and even the waters of the ocean. The world is losing its natural beauty. Unknowingly, we continue severing our bond with nature. Radiation not only causes terrestrial destruction but also poisons the atmosphere. Every living being has suffered from this environmental pollution, and the effects of contaminated air are so long-lasting that future generations will be impacted as well. Hijab Imtiaz Ali’s novel stands as a profound and serious critique of the negative use of scientific advancements and their disastrous consequences
A Comparative Study of Existential Elements in Anees Nagi’s “Deewar ke Peechay” and Khalid Javed’s“Mout ki Kitab”
This study presents a comparative analysis of existential elements in Anees Nagi’s Deewar ke Peechay and Khalid Javed’s Mout ki Kitab, two significant works of modern Urdu literature that reflect profound philosophical and psychological concerns of the contemporary individual. Drawing upon existentialist thought—particularly themes of alienation, absurdity, anxiety, death, and the crisis of meaning—the research examines how both writers articulate human existence in a fragmented and oppressive social reality. Anees Nagi’s Deewar ke Peechay portrays existential confinement through symbolic barriers, highlighting the individual’s struggle against social norms, inner emptiness, and the loss of authentic selfhood. In contrast, Khalid Javed’s Mout ki Kitab intensifies existential despair by focusing on death, decay, and corporeal reality, presenting existence as a continuous confrontation with meaninglessness and mortality. While Nagi’s narrative leans toward intellectual abstraction and symbolic resistance, Khalid Javed adopts a stark, grotesque realism to expose existential anxiety. The study argues that despite differences in narrative style and thematic emphasis, both texts converge in depicting the modern human condition as deeply alienated and psychologically fractured. By comparing these works, the paper highlights their shared contribution to existential discourse in Urdu fiction and underscores their relevance to understanding modern existential consciousness

نکاح اور اس کے بنیادی مسائل: غیراسلامی رسوم کا تجزیہ: Marriage and its Basic Problems: An Analysis of Non-Islamic Customs
Marriage (Nikah) in Islam is a sacred contract designed to foster love, tranquility and social stability. It places an emphasis on mutual consent, simplicity and religious compatibility and is rooted in Quranic commands and Prophetic traditions. However, contrary to Islamic teachings, many Muslim communities today have incorporated un-Islamic practices like extravagant dowries, forced engagements and excessive wedding rituals. This article examines the core principles of Islamic marriage, including its spiritual significance, the necessity of Mahr(dowry), and the importance of Walima(wedding feast). It also critiques prevalent cultural practices—such as Jahez (dowry demands), lavish ceremonies, and unnecessary pre-wedding customs—that burden families financially and deviate from the Sunnah. The Islamic framework for marriage represents a structured institution that serves as the cornerstone of human society. When this system operates seamlessly, it safeguards the community from social corruption and instability. Conversely, any disruption within this framework can lead to widespread societal challenges. To address these concerns, Islamic teachings provide a comprehensive and systematic approach to marriage, offering solutions to many contemporary issues that may otherwise appear unresolved. Islam emphasizes the sanctity of the marital relationship by granting it legal and moral recognition, positioning it as a fundamental prescribed societal value. Through the institution of marriage, specific guidelines to strengthen this bond and achieve its core objectives, while discouraging excessive and unnecessary emotional indulgence. The Qur\u27an and Hadith underscore the importance of fostering a morally upright society by advocating chastity and legitimizing intimate relationships within the bounds of marriage. This approach not only fulfills the human need for sexual fulfillment but also ensures the protection of lineage and the continuation of life, thereby contributing to societal stability and harmony. By contrasting Islamic guidelines with modern deviations, the study highlights the need to revive Prophetic simplicity, eliminate harmful traditions, and align marital practices with Shariah. The findings advocate for a return to Quranic values, promoting affordable, dignified marriages that uphold Islamic ethics while rejecting innovations (Bid\u27ah) and pressures from society.
