The interpretative elements presented in the treatise L’art de Préluder provide resources for the execution of French baroque music, proving very useful in the interpretation of the Suite op. 5 no. 3. However, each element requires a thorough study of how to carry out its execution, since French music, even though it is written, has rules that must be understood and known how to use
Federico Gerdes on the 150th anniversary of his birth and the 70th anniversary of his death: An overview
Federico Gerdes has been considered a musician with an important presence in the history of Peruvian music. Several reasons support this: he was the founding director of the first house of academic studies in Peru and directed it for thirty-five years; he carried out the musical life of Peru’s capital city for more than four decades; he introduced an unknown repertoire in our country that opened the aesthetic horizons and shaped the taste of music lovers. He composed a handful of rigorously crafted works that, despite their brevity and limited breadth, contain high musical values. He extended his romantic vision of music, in which he had trained until his last days. Living at the same time of both nationalisms and indigenism trends, he remained oblivious to those concerns. He laid strong bases for a musical culture whose significance remains in our time. In commemoration of the sesquicentennial of his birth and the seventieth anniversary of his death, hereby is a brief review of his character, his work, his actions, and the imprint he left on our music

Transformations of cumbia on the north coast of Peru in the first two decades of the XXI century
Cumbia has gone through different transformations on the Peruvian north coast and much has been written about its historical aspects and its social impact. For a better understanding, it is necessary to address the musical phenomenon itself. Therefore, the objective of this research was to identify the influences and characteristics of cumbia in this region, through comparative analysis and the research paradigm on the arts of three representative musical pieces of this musical genre, performed by the Agua Marina, Grupo 5, and Armonía 10 groups. The research design consisted of the application of interviews, the transcription of the recordings, and the comparative musical analysis. The results showed that the harmony of the pieces, eminently tonal, was chordal with few tensions and neighbor tones. The themes are oriented towards melancholy, disappointment, love, or a story. Some groups exclusively use virtual and electronic instruments, while others use metal winds with a treatment inherited from salsa. These results show that cumbia from the north coast of Peru has a strong influence from Colombian and Caribbean genres. Patterns referring to the lambada and compound meter were also found, as in the case of the emerging genre called merequetengue

Music in the National Folklore Ensamble: notes and reflections on its beginning and its subsequent projection, on the 50th anniversary of its foundation
This text deals with the music and musicians who were part of the first group that joined the newly founded Conjunto Nacional de Folklore in the 1970s. To do so, it begins by describing the context in which its creation took place and how the process of appointing Victoria Santa Cruz as its director unfolded. Next, to address the music within the artistic entity, three aspects are presented: first, an account is given of the profile that the musicians were expected to have in the director's vision, how this played out in practice, as well as a register of the names of the first members. Then, the role of the musical advisor in the artistic group is described, before finally providing an overview of the music played in the first years of the ensemble, drawing on various documentary materials and some oral testimonies. As a complement to all of the above, and prior to some final reflections, it is also shown how a public institution today is symbolically trying to continue the group founded by Victoria Santa Cruz 50 years ago
Federico Gerdes' corpus of musical works is made up of short, highly condensed scores with absolute control over the resources he uses. As part of the dossier dedicated to this musician, to commemorate the sesquicentennial of his birth and the seventieth anniversary of his death, ANTEC: Peruvian Journal of Musical Research, is releasing two scores that had been kept in manuscript form
Finally, the sounds of nineteen-century Mexico are no longer so distant: what implies listening again to the Te Deum laudamus (1835) by José Antonio Gómez?
The musical practice of the Mexican 19th century continues to be a pending topic in our fields of study as well as in the musical scene. Despite this, the name of José Antonio Gómez y Olguín is beginning to resound. The resurgence of this 19th century philharmonic musician is largely due to the approach and study of first-hand sources. However, even with a clearer idea of his life and work, his main legacy, his works, are still absent on our stages.
I am interested in narrating the factors that have kept at a distance a crucial period of our musical history. For example, how in 1835 a Federal Law determined a series of events that culminated in the Metropolitan Cathedral. The Cabildo decided to receive general Antonio López de Santa-Anna with a Te Deum. Then, the second organist, José Antonio Gómez proposed to write a work with soloists, choir and large orchestra according to the moment. In the early days of independent Mexico, Gómez was playing for his future within the most important church in the country and, by extension, in the secular sphere. Two hundred years later the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra performed his Te Deum laudamus with great success in September 2022
