283 p.Industry 5.0 calls for photonic solutions that gather precise, real-time measurements under intense heat, vibration, and electromagnetic fields. Conventional electronics struggle here, often succumbing to interference or limited durability. This dissertation overcomes that gap by developing intensity-based optical fiber displacement sensors (OFDS) that measure linear and angular displacements with high accuracy, extended range, and minimal dead zones.This research closes the loop on OFDS design by uniting theoretical modeling, simulation, and hands-on fabrication. First, a brute-force methodology mapped a broad range of geometries, revealing surprising flexibility even under tight manufacturing tolerances. Next, a concise toy model distilled complex photonic interactions into three key equations¿greatly reducing computational overhead while preserving sub-1\% agreement with experiments. Building on these insights, we engineered tetra- and pentafurcated OFDS prototypes with extended linear ranges up to 10.49 mm minimal dead zones (2.50 mm) and high sensitivity 2.20 mm-1, validated experimentally at a mean square error of 0.25%.Finally, we introduced a heptafurcated optical fiber displacement angular and linear sensor (OFLADS), integrating concentric fiber rings for linear sensing with cross-arranged fibers for angular detection. This single, compact bundle simultaneously measures distance and tilt angles (±15º) without bulky optics or intricate alignment. Prototypes confirmed theoretical predictions, underscoring the viability of the sensor for demanding aero-engine applications.By merging rigorous modeling, efficient design strategies, and empirical testing, this dissertation surpasses state-of-the-art OFDS limitations and completes the circle from conceptual frameworks to fully operational, multi-parameter photonic sensors. The path ahead includes further miniaturization, broader angular detection, and integration with cutting-edge photonic platforms solidifying OFDS as a key enabler of next-generation aerospace and industrial systems
Future wave energy evolution in the Bay of Biscay for different converters
Future SSP5-85 IPCC scenario of Coupled Model Intercomparison Project 6 future projections (2015–2100) of wave data – significant wave height and wave peak period – are used to implement them in the power matrix of different wave energy converters: floating body, floating oscillating water column, and oyster device. An annual and seasonal study has been carried out in the nearest grid point to Mutriku’s oscillating water column wave energy plant, a referential real wave energy converter integrated in a breakwater. Overall, the results show a negative trend evolution both in the Wave Energy Flux resource and in the production of the Wave Energy Converters. Because of their productive results, the Reference Model 3 and the Reference Model 5 wave energy converters have been selected for further production analysis. Most results have shown a downward trend both in the physical parameters and in the energy production of the wave energy converters and the wave energy flux. However, the future trends are not as strong as the past historical trends found in the North Atlantic in general, showing an inflection point in the climate change effects for marine energy environments. Planning Resilient Cities: A Methodological Framework for the Integration of Nature-Based Solutions
Climate change arguably constitutes the most significant environmental challenge of our time, making the enhancement of urban resilience a global priority. Nature-based Solu-tions (NbS) have emerged as effective instruments to mitigate some of its impacts, partic-ularly by reducing flood risk and moderating urban temperatures. However, their imple-mentation is often reactive, focusing on existing problems rather than anticipating future ones. This underscores the need for robust methodological frameworks that enable the proactive integration of NbS within urban planning processes. This study proposes a spa-tial planning methodology supported by Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which, through the application of opportunity, priority, and feasibility criteria, identifies optimal areas for NbS integration, determines appropriate typologies, and establishes levels of in-tervention urgency. Although the methodology has been developed for the city of Gra-nada, its structure allows for replication in other urban contexts. The findings reveal that one-third of Granada’s urban area is suitable for NbS implementation, with approxi-mately 7% exhibiting a high or very high risk of surface runoff accumulation. La correspondencia entre el arte, la crítica, las tecnologías, el activismo y la esfera pública tiene una larga historia de prácticas artísticas basadas en la investigación y acción micro/política radical que esta continuamente marginalizada, confinada y/o borrada a través de violentos procesos del capitalismo racial, que organiza también el sistema del arte occidental aún hoy hegemónico. En relación al libro Modos de hacer: Arte crítico, esfera pública y acción directa, publicado en 2001, este artículo se centra en repensar las armas de la crítica, visibilizando las ausencias que nos hacen insistir en la necesidad de desplazar el centro. A vueltas con la palabra celtibérica kortika / gortika
The word kortika / gortica appears in six documents written in the Celtiberian language, five hospitality tesserae and the Luzaga bronze, which is also a hospitality document. Early on, kortika / gortika was linked to the root *gʰer- "to seize, grab, enclose", found in Latin hortus "garden", Oscan húrz, etc., Old Irish gort "field", Middle Welsh garth "field, pen", Old Breton gorth "pen", Greek χόρτος "enclosed place", and Gothic gards "house (as fenced property)". In 1997, J. Untermann proposed that gortika, meaning "publica" (in Latin), was an adjective derived from a theoretical noun *gorta "city, community". This word has recently been identified in a new Celtiberian tesserapublished in 2021. In this study, the author revisits the etymology and the morphological structure of GORTA and gortika. From an etymological perspective, he argues that their original meaning is closer to the Latin adjectives ciuica or ciuilis. Additionally, he examines the morphology and etymology of other words found in Celtiberian documents, including gortono- (gortono, gortonei), korzonei, kortonikum and CORDONO. In his view, the first two are indeed related to GORTA and gortika, he expresses doubt about the connection with kortonikum, and he is almost certain that CORDONO does not belong to this lexical family; La palabra kortika / gortica aparece en seis documentos escritos en lengua celtibérica, cinco téseras de hospitalidad y el bronce de Luzaga, un documento de hospitalidad también. Desde muy temprano, se relacionó con la raíz *gʰer- ‘coger, tomar, recoger’, que aparece en latín hortus ‘jardín’, osco húrz, etc., irlandés antiguo gort ‘campo’, galés medio garth ‘campo, corral’, bretón antiguo gorth ‘corral’, griego χόρτος ‘sitio cerrado’, gótico gards ‘casa (como una propiedad vallada)’. En uno de sus trabajos, J. Untermann planteó la posibilidad de que gortika ‘publica’ (en latín) fuese un adjetivo derivado de un teórico *gorta ‘ciudad, comunidad’. NIRS-BIDS: Brain Imaging Data Structure Extended to Near Infrared Spectroscop
Published: 27 January 2025Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) is an increasingly popular neuroimaging technique
that measures cortical hemodynamic activity in a non-invasive and portable fashion. Although the
fNIRS community has been successful in disseminating open-source processing tools and a standard
fle format (SNIRF), reproducible research and sharing of fNIRS data amongst researchers has been
hindered by a lack of standards and clarity over how study data should be organized and stored. This
problem is not new in neuroimaging, and it became evident years ago with the proliferation of publicly
available neuroimaging datasets. To solve this critical issue, the neuroimaging community created the
Brain Imaging Data Structure (BIDS) that specifes standards for how datasets should be organized
to facilitate sharing and reproducibility of science. Currently, BIDS supports dozens of neuroimaging
modalities including MRI, EEG, MEG, PET, and many others. In this paper, we present the extension of
BIDS for NIRS data alongside tools that may assist researchers in organizing existing and new data with

La valoración de la prueba pericial psicológica aplicada a víctimas de agresión sexual infantil: revisión bibliográfica, análisis de sentencias dictadas en la C.A.P.V. (2019-2025) y estudio de caso
Este trabajo tiene como objetivo comprender y analizar las pruebas periciales psicológicas aplicadas a la credibilidad de los testimonios de los menores, más concretamente, víctimas de agresión sexual infantil. Tras una revisión bibliográfica y mediante una revisión empírica de sentencias emitidas por las Audiencias Provinciales de la Comunidad Autónoma Vasca (2019-2025), se examinan las técnicas de obtención de relatos, los factores individuales y externos, así como la influencia de la calidad de las pruebas en los procesos judiciales. Los resultados del estudio empírico muestran que las discusiones forenses suelen centrarse en el testimonio del menor, y cómo la valoración del tribunal se centra en distintos criterios
Comparative analysis of Signal-to-Noise ratio in Raman microscopy using conventional cuvette based measurements and Hollow-Core microstructured polymer optical fibers
Confocal Raman microscopy is a powerful tool for chemical analysis, but achieving a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) remains a challenge, especially for weak signals. In this study, we compare conventional cuvette-based measurements with those performed using hollow-core microstructured polymer optical fibers (mPOFs), using both selective and non-selective filling methods. Three types of mPOFs with different sizes were employed. Potassium ferricyanide, characterized by its distinct Raman band at 2140 cm–1 , and two laser wavelengths (532 nm and 785 nm) at three different magnifications were used to evaluate the performance and stability of each configuration. Our results show that mPOFs made of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) significantly improve SNR compared to traditional cuvette setups, with the selectively filled medium-size fiber providing the best performance. Furthermore, even non-selectively filled fibers, simply cleaved and immersed, achieve SNR enhancements over cuvette measurements without any specialized handling. Although higher magnifications in fiber setups improve light confinement and interaction volume, they can also introduce stability issues such as liquid evaporation, especially in smaller fibers. The Biogeography of Soil Bacteria in Australia Exhibits Greater Resistance to Climate Change Than Fungi
Soil microorganisms are crucial to ecosystem health, and their composition and distribution are shaped by a range of environmental factors. However, the effects of accelerating climate change on soil microbiomes remain under-explored. This study examines the continental-scale factors controlling soil microbiomes and evaluates their responses to climate change. We applied machine learning algorithms to analyze the distribution patterns of bacteria and fungi in 1300 Australian topsoil samples. Our results indicate that bacterial distributions align closely with the soil class map, highlighting the dominant impact of soil properties. In contrast, fungal distributions are more strongly associated with temperature gradients, emphasizing the critical role of climate. Climate projections for 2040 suggest a notable southward shift in both bacterial and fungal patterns, particularly around latitude 25° S. Moreover, our findings suggest that fungal biogeography is likely to undergo more pronounced changes, with approximately 24% of Australian topsoils expected to experience significant shifts in fungal community structure, compared to about 19% for bacteria, which appear more resistant.
