Model Predictive Flux Weakening Controller for Asymmetrical Dual Three-Phase PMSM Drives
Asymmetrical dual three-phase permanent magnet synchronous machines (DTP-PMSMs) are well-known alternatives for high-performance electromobility applications. Flux weakening (FW) operation is crucial when a wide speed range is needed. This work proposes a novel FW continuous control set model predictive controller (FW-MPC) as an alternative to conventional FW approaches. From an MPC formulation, the optimal voltages for a given reference torque are obtained as the solution of a quadratic programming (QP) problem based on a quadratic cost function subject to linear constraints. Simulation

Assembling agencies on a website: interactions among language, sports and knowledge
In this article we reflect on the process used to create the website euskarakirolkide. eus, which emerged from an ethnographic study involving youth sports in the Basque Autonomous Community. The website documents some of the strategies used by sports clubs to promote the use of the Basque language not only within the clubs but also in the wider context of neighborhood and city, illustrating how the clubs serve as language agents by giving voice, body and materiality to their prac- tices. The euskarakirolkide.eus website also details and exhibits the careful research process undertaken and the complex interplay between the material and relational elements involved. We argue that the website’s dual function—a showcase for the sociolinguistic work done by the clubs and a vehicle for the generation of knowl- edge—transforms it into a methodological-epistemological tool that has agency. Euskarakirolkide.eus shows the linguistic work done by the clubs, respecting their ways of understanding and managing the languages, while also proposing a partici- patory ethnography model that is attuned to the needs of the context in which it is applied. Spout diameter in fine particle conical spouted beds: Assessing the influence of draft tubes by PTV
The spout diameter is an essential parameter for designing spouted bed contactors, as it conditions the gas–solid contact and heat and mass transfer rates. Several correlations have been proposed in the literature to estimate the spout size, but they do not provide accurate results in beds made up of fine particles, especially when they are equipped with open-sided draft tubes. Accordingly, the spout–annulus interface has been determined by means of Particle Tracking Velocimetry (PTV) and the spout shape has been delineated under different operating conditions in fountain confined conical spouted beds of varying geometric parameters. The air inlet diameter and gas velocity, as well as the aperture ratio of the open-sided draft tubes, are the parameters of greatest influence. Lipotoxicity-driven metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD)
Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) encompasses a spectrum of liver lesions, ranging from simple steatosis to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), that may further progress to cirrhosis. MASLD is estimated to affect more than one third of the general population and it represents a risk factor for end-stage liver failure and liver cancer, substantially contributing to liver-related morbidity and mortality. Although the pathogenesis of MASLD is incompletely understood, it is known to consist of a multifactorial process influenced by extrinsic and intrinsic factors such as metabolic, environmental and demographic features, gut microbiota and genetics. Dysregulation of both extracellular and intracellular lipid composition is known to promote the generation of toxic lipid species, thereby triggering lipotoxicity and cellular stress. These events ultimately lead to the activation of distinct cell death pathways, resulting in inflammation, fibrogenesis and, eventually, carcinogenesis. Economía del cambio climático y el impuesto al carbono como medida de mitigación
El cambio climático es uno de los mayores retos globales de la actualidad, con profundas implicaciones económicas, sociales y ambientales. Ante el calentamiento global, considerado el gran fallo de mercado de nuestra era, el impuesto al carbono emerge como una herramienta clave de mitigación. Al corregir las externalidades negativas, internalizar los costes sociales de la contaminación y establecer un precio sobre las emisiones, este mecanismo incentiva la adopción de tecnologías limpias y fomenta la transición verde. El presente trabajo aborda el contexto económico del cambio climático, las políticas internacionales y europeas, y el diseño, implementación y efectividad del impuesto al carbono. A través de este análisis, se ofrece una visión crítica sobre los desafíos y oportunidades de la medida, contribuyendo al debate global sobre la transición hacia una economía baja en carbono y al diseño de políticas públicas más eficaces y sostenibles
Impact of Steam-Exploded Feather Incorporation on the Biodegradation Performance of Renewable Biocomposites
The increasing environmental concerns regarding plastic waste, especially in
agriculture, have driven the search for sustainable alternatives. Agricultural plastics, such
as mulching films and greenhouse covers, are heavily reliant on petrochemical-derived
materials, which persist in the environment and contribute to long-term pollution. This
study explores the use of biodegradable biocomposites made from steam explosion-treated
chicken feathers and various polymer matrices to address these issues. Chicken feathers, a
waste by-product of the poultry industry, present an excellent biodegradability as a result
of the steam explosion treatment and contain nitrogen, potentially enhancing soil fertility.
The biocomposites were characterized by thermal stability, mechanical properties, and
biodegradability, and ecotoxicity assessments were carried out studying the incorporation
of feathers into the soil. Results showed that the incorporation of treated chicken feathers
increased the water absorption capacity of the composites, promoting faster disintegration
and biodegradation. In particular, biocomposites made with polyhydroxyalkanoates and
Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) exhibited a significant increase in degradation
rates, from 3–10% in the first month for pure matrices to 40–50% when reinforced
with treated feathers. Meanwhile, those made from polylactic acid showed slower degradation.
Furthermore, the addition of feathers positively influenced crop growth at low
concentrations, acting as a slow-release fertilizer. However, high concentrations of feathers
negatively affect plant growth due to excess nitrogen. These findings highlight the potential
of poultry feathers as a valuable, sustainable filler for agricultural bioplastics, contributing

The brain bauplan sheds light on evo-devo constraints
329 p.Patterning and segmentation networks establish the brain bauplan during mid-embryogenesis, known as the phylotypic period. Up to now, sparse evidence of regional master genes has suggested their conservation across vertebrates, but transcriptomic-level analysis has been lacking. To address this gap and evaluate the conservation of cell types in the early (phylotypic) brain, we analyzed scRNA-seq and in situ hybridization data from the early developing brains of five key vertebrate species: mouse (La Manno et al, 2021), chick, gecko, zebrafish (Raj et al, 2020), and human (Braun et al, 2023). Our single-cell atlases identified equivalent morphogenic organizers and regionally specialized neural stem cell types across these vertebrates. Additionally, snATAC-seq data from mouse and chick brains revealed a high conservation of transcription factors in contrast to the divergence of downstream effector genes and cis-regulatory elements. Moreover, our findings reveal how pleiotropy and associated lethality impose evolutionary constraints that lead to brain bauplan conservation. Not only on brain development but also on the broader organogenic embryo, which follows equivalent patterning processes. Navigation in challenging environments
[EN] Autonomous navigation under degraded visibility remains a critical challenge for systems relying on conventional sensing. This work introduces a simulation-based proof of concept, motivated by a review of navigation strategies in adverse environments, where thermal cameras emerge as a strong alternative. Using Gazebo Fortress and ROS 2, a complete testbed was developed integrating a stereo thermal–inertial SLAM pipeline on a Panther UGV operating in fog. Thermal perception was compared with stereo-RGB and RGB-D baselines. While conventional configurations deteriorated significantly under fog, thermal sensing delivered maps of higher fidelity and stable localisation, demonstrating its potential for robust real-world navigation.[ES] La navegación autónoma en condiciones de visibilidad degradada sigue siendo un desafío crítico para los sistemas basados en percepción convencional. Este trabajo presenta una prueba de concepto en simulación, motivada por una revisión de estrategias de navegación en entornos adversos, donde las cámaras térmicas surgen como una alternativa prometedora. Se desarrolló un banco de pruebas en Gazebo Fortress y ROS 2, integrando un pipeline de SLAM térmico–inercial estéreo en un UGV Panther operando en niebla. La percepción térmica se comparó con configuraciones estéreo-RGB y RGB-D.
