“Non-Native” Teachers Teaching Content in English: A Reflective Practice Approach
English-medium instruction (EMI) programmes are on the upswing in universities all over the world. However, the literature indicates that EMI instructors hardly pay any attention to the language aspect, in the belief that they are content –and not language– teachers. In an attempt to make EMI teachers reflect on the paramount role that language and, in particular, teacher-fronted questions play in their classes, in this study four EMI history teachers were video-recorded during six two-hour-long sessions each. Following Gall and Acheson (2011), the three steps of clinical supervision were implemented: planning conference, classroom observation, and feedback conference. By including the teachers as active participants in the process, both the researchers and the teachers looked at the data gathered in the classroom observations and analysed them. As a result of the side-by-side supervision, decisions were made on an equal footing by the researcher and the teacher. This model of supervision provides EMI teachers with objective feedback on their instruction, while they are encouraged to reach their own conclusions. Differences in the receptiveness to the reflective practice among the teachers were observed, suggesting the need to work with teachers on the benefits of professional teaching interventions, such as the one described here.Project PID2020-117882GB-I00 financed by MICIU/AEI/ 10.13039/501100011033; and the Basque Government under Grant Number IT1426-22
The reliability and validity of the Chinese version of premenstrual dysphoric disorder questionnaire for DSM-5
Objective: Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) seriously affects women’s work and life, and early screening and diagnosis of PMDD can improve the quality of life of potential PMDD patients. The Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder Questionnaire for DSM-5 (CTDP-DSM-5) is a validated screening tool for PMDD based on the DSM-5. This study intends to conduct reliability testing and validity evaluation of the scale after translation and revision in Chinese women.
Methods: 669 Chinese female college students were evaluated by a set of questionnaires including the Chinese version of CTDP-DSM-5 (CTDP-C), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), General Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) and Premenstrual Symptoms Screening Tool (PSST).
Results: CTDP-C is a bi-dimensional screening instrument with 25 items. The factor structure of the CTDP-C fits well to the factor model of the original Spanish version (CFI = 0.957; TLI = 0.953; RMSEA = 0.036; χ2 = 5983.585, df = 300, p < 0.0001). The McDonald’s omega reliability index obtained in this study was good (0.8) for both dimensions. In terms of convergent validity, the CTDP-C is significantly positively correlated with PSST (r = 0.533, p < 0.01). Furthermore, the instrument correlates positively with depression and anxiety. Finally, the CTDP-C scores can sensitively differentiate depressed from non-depressed patients (Cohen’s d = 0.72). Similarly, sensitively differentiated anxious from non-anxious patients (Cohen’s d = 0.80).
Conclusions: CTDP-C has good validity and reliability and it is an effective screening tool to identify Chinese patients with PMDD among college students, providing a basis for early detection, early diagnosis and early treatment of PMDD.This work was funded by Qing Lan Project of Jiangsu Higher Education Institutions, National Natural Science Foundation of China (grant number, 82001426) and Innovation Training Project for College Students (grant number, 202410315098Y
Hizkuntza-paisaia Haur Hezkuntzatik begiratuta
[EU] Euskaraz eginiko lan honek hizkuntza-paisaiak (HP) Haur Hezkuntzako (0-6 urte) hizkuntzaren garapenean duen rolari buruzko berrikuspen sistematikoa aurkezten du, testuinguru eleaniztunei eta euskara bezalako hizkuntza gutxituei arreta berezia eskainiz. Helburua eskolako hizkuntza paisaiak, ingurune semiotiko eta baliabide pedagogiko gisa ulertuta, hizkuntzaren jabekuntzan, ikasleen identitatean eta aniztasunarekiko jarreretan nola eragiten duen aztertzea da. PRISMA ereduan oinarritutako metodologia kualitatiboa erabili da; berrikusitako 1.187 dokumenturen artean 77 ikerketa gako iragazteko aukera eman zuen. Emaitzek erakusten dutenez, asmo pedagogikoz ezartzen denean, hizkuntza-paisaiak hizkuntza-ikaskuntzari, inklusioari eta hizkuntzen aintzatespen sinbolikoari laguntzen die. [EN] This paper presents a systematic review of the role of the linguistic landscape (LL) in language development in Early Childhood Education (0-6 years), with special attention to multilingual contexts and minority languages such as Basque. The aim is to analyse how the school LL, understood as a semiotic environment and pedagogical resource, influences language acquisition, pupils' identity and attitudes towards diversity. A qualitative methodology based on the PRISMA model was used, which made it possible to filter 77 key studies from among 1,187 documents reviewed. The results show that, when implemented with pedagogical intentions, LL favours language learning, inclusion and symbolic recognition of languages. In addition, significant gaps in the literature are identified, such as the scarce presence of quantitative studies, the development of the digital linguistic landscape and the need to explore the role of teachers in its creation, maintenance and interpretation
Chaotic dynamics of a bead on a rotating circular hoop
We demonstrate the existence of infinitely many subharmonic solutions and the presence of chaotic dynamics in the model of a bead on a rotating circular hoop with a T-periodic, piecewise-constant angular frequency. The results are based on the monotonicity properties of the period function in the associated planar autonomous system. © 2024 The Author(s)The authors would like to express their gratitude to the referee for their invaluable suggestions, which have significantly improved the quality of this paper. Structural, Electronic and Magnetic Properties of 2D Semiconducting CoCl2 and CoBr2 on Au(111) and Bi2Se3
147 p.With the rise of quantum technologies, studying materials at the nanometre scaleis crucial for developing devices that exploit quantum effects such assuperposition, entanglement and confinement. This thesis investigates the growth, electronic structure and magnetism of cobalt dihalides (CoCl2 and CoBr2), twosemiconducting van der Waals magnets synthesized by molecular beam epitaxy atlow substrate temperatures (~100 °C). Films were grown on Au(111) as a referencesystem and on the topological insulator Bi2Se3 to explore proximity-inducedeffects. Local probes such as scanning tunnelling microscopy provided atomic-scaleinsight into morphology and crystallinity, while spectroscopic techniques revealedtheir electronic and magnetic behaviour. CoCl2 forms well-ordered trilayers with apreserved semiconducting gap and in-plane magnetic anisotropy, whereas CoBr2evolves from a conductive precursor phase into semiconducting trilayers. Thesefindings contribute to the understanding of how structural, electronic andmagnetic properties emerge in low-dimensional magnetic semiconductors, offering guidance for their integration into future quantum materials and devices

Tracking the Material History Through the Analysis of Past and Present Alterations and Restorations. Application to Doors and Walls of the Museum Najerillense (La Rioja, Spain)
[EN] Elements of cultural heritage are living entities with a history that is sometimes marked on its surface by means of different types of alterations (stains, wearing, graffiti, erosion, etc.). The discipline of conservation-restoration aims to preserve the materiality of these elements and presents them to users in a suitable manner; but it is also aware of the historic interest of some of these alterations and, consequently they cannot be just erased without being documented and explained. This is precisely the starting point of the present contribution, where the comparison of decay patterns in different elements of a building —the regional museum of archaeology and ethnography of Najera (La Rioja, Spain)— is explored as a complementary methodology to analyse the material history of the building. As many of these alterations have influence in the three-dimensional geometry of the surfaces and the texture, they can be monitored by means of the products that are generated during the geometric documentation works. The text presents a methodology for the study structured in four stages and draws some conclusions about the potential of this approach.
