Changes in highest luminance of the backgrounds do affect the lightness of targets in Simultaneous Lightness Contrast
No full textΗ ερμηνεία της Θεωρίας του Σταθερού σημείου για την πλάνη της ταυτόχρονης χρωματικής αντίθεσης βασίζεται σε χρωματικούς υπολογισμούς που πραγματοποιούνται σε τοπικό επίπεδο ανάμεσα στους στόχους και το φόντο τους. Η πλάνη δημιουργείται διότι η επιφάνεια με την υψηλότερη φωτεινότητα είναι διαφορετική ανάμεσα στις δύο αυτές ομάδες επιφανειών. Ωστόσο πρόσφατα η Μανιάτη (2015) υποστήριξε ότι η εξισορρόπηση των επιφανειών με την υψηλότερη φωτεινότητα στα δύο πεδία δεν επηρεάζει την πλάνη.
Ελέγξαμε αυτόν τον ισχυρισμό με ένα πείραμα όπου παρατηρητές ταύτισαν χρωματικά τις επιφάνειες στόχους της πλάνης στην κλασική της μορφή και σε τρεις παραλλαγές στις οποίες τοποθετήσαμε ένα πλέγμα κάθετων γραμμών (που είχαν διαφορετικό πλάτος σε κάθε συνθήκη) σε κάθε φόντο (λευκές γραμμές στο μαύρο φόντο και μαύρες στο λευκό).
Τα αποτελέσματά μας ξεκάθαρα δείχνουν ότι τυχόν αλλαγές στις υψηλότερες φωτεινότητες των πεδίων στην ταυτόχρονη χρωματική αντίθεση καθορίζουν το μέγεθος της πλάνης. Τα αποτελέσματα αυτά είναι απολύτως συμβατά με την ερμηνεία της Θεωρίας του Σταθερού σημείου.The Anchoring theory of lightness account for Simultaneous Lightness Contrast is based on calculations performed within the local groups of the targets with their respective backgrounds. Because the highest luminance is different in those groups, the illusion emerges. However recently Maniatis (2015) has claimed that equalizing the highest luminance in the two groups does not affect the illusion.
We tested this claim by having observers match the lightness of the targets in a standard and 3 variants of the SLC illusion in which we placed lines of different width on the two backgrounds (white stripes on the black background and black stripes on the white).
Our results strongly suggest that changing the highest luminance of the backgrounds in SLC defines the size of the illusion. These results are taken to support the explanation provided by Anchoring Theory

No full textThe present paper offers insights into the views of teachers working in secondary education regarding necessity of teacher assessment through research study. The paper is divided in two parts. The first part includes the theoretical background, where assessment is defined together with the different forms it can take, information is provided about the international and European trends and a historical overview of the institution in Greece is attempted. Next, the necessity of the institution is confirmed and the fields, objectives and criteria of its application as well as the bodies that realize it are presented. The second part includes the research study, where theory is linked to research and the methodology followed is described in detail. The author examines its structure and functioning, and especially its contribution in advancing Greek interests with the governments of countries with large Greek communities. This is mainly the case of the important Greek lobby in the United States and secondarily in other countries, such as Australia, Canada and Western Europe. The author underlines in particular the mobilization of the Cypriot community in Britain against the Turkish occupation of a part of the island

However, amongst them, many have acquired notoriety in the political or cultural spheres. These are the Philhellenes of France, who act most effectively to defend a weakened Greece in recent years by an unprecedented economic crisis and to ensure the safeguarding of Hellenism which is especially threatened in Cyprus.

Toutefois, on compte parmi ceux-ci beaucoup de personnes ayant acquis dans le domaine politique ou culturel une notoriété certaine. The Role of Oxidative Stress in the Pathophysiology of Schizophrenia

Πληθώρα κλινικών και πειραματικών μελετών έχουν διεξαχθεί με σκοπό τη διερεύνηση της εμπλοκής του οξειδωτικού στρες στην παθοφυσιολογία της. Το παρόν άρθρο, μετά από σύντομη εισαγωγή στις παραμέτρους του οξειδωτικού στρες και την κλινική εικόνα της σχιζοφρένειας, εστιάζει στα σημαντικότερα ερευνητικά δεδομένα που αφορούν στις αλλαγές της δραστηριότητας του αντιοξειδωτικού συστήματος παρουσία της νόσου. Εξετάζεται η υπόθεση που αποδίδει στις κυτοκίνες ρόλο φλεγμονώδους μεσολαβητή στην εκδήλωση σχιζοφρένειας, καθώς και το καίριο ζήτημα της επίδρασης των αντιψυχωσικών φαρμάκων στους δείκτες του οξειδωτικού στρες. Ωστόσο, ο ακριβής ρόλος του οξειδωτικού στρες στην ψύχωση παραμένει ασαφής.Research evidence increasingly suggests the presence of oxidative damage in schizophrenia. Numerous clinical and experimental studies have been conducted to investigate the involvement of oxidative stress in the pathophysiology of above mentioned disease. In this paper, after a brief introduction on the parameters of oxidative stress and the clinical picture of schizophrenia, an overview of the most important research data on changes of the antioxidant system activity in schizophrenia is given. The role of cytokines in inflammatory mediators that affect the appearance of schizophrenia as well as the key issue of the effect of antipsychotic drugs on oxidative stress markers is discussed. However, further research is needed to establish the exact role of oxidative stress in psychosis
The Relationship between Emotional Intelligence and Work Engagement in Pre-school Teachers. The Mediating and Moderating Role of Attitudes towards Social and Emotional Learning.
No full textΤο παρόν άρθρο είχε ως αντικείμενο τη μελέτη της σχέσης μεταξύ συναισθηματικής νοημοσύνης και εργασιακής αφοσίωσης των εκπαιδευτικών προσχολικής ηλικίας. Συγκεκριμένα, διερευνήθηκε ο πιθανός διαμεσολαβητικός ή/και ρυθμιστικός ρόλος της στάσης τους για την κοινωνική και συναισθηματική μάθηση στη σχέση μεταξύ της συναισθηματικής νοημοσύνης τους και της εργασιακής τους αφοσίωσης. Το δείγμα αποτελούσαν 202 εκπαιδευτικοί προσχολικής ηλικίας. Τα αποτελέσματα έδειξαν ότι η συναισθηματική νοημοσύνη και η στάση για την κοινωνική και συναισθηματική μάθηση προέβλεψαν την εργασιακή αφοσίωση. Επιπλέον, η στάση για την κοινωνική και συναισθηματική μάθηση λειτούργησε ως διαμεσολαβητικός παράγοντας στη σχέση συναισθηματικής νοημοσύνης και εργασιακής αφοσίωσης. Επιπρόσθετα, κάποιες από τις διαστάσεις της στάσης για την κοινωνική και συναισθηματική μάθηση βρέθηκε ότι λειτουργούν ως ρυθμιστικοί παράγοντες στη σχέση συναισθηματικής νοημοσύνης και εργασιακής αφοσίωσης. Επιχειρείται συζήτηση και συνεκτίμηση των ευρημάτων, καθώς και προτάσεις για περαιτέρω έρευνα.The purpose of this study was to explore the association between emotional intelligence and work engagement in pre-school educators. Specifically, it was examined whether the beliefs of pre-school educators about social and emotional learning mediates or/and moderates the association between emotional intelligence and work engagement. Using a sample of 202 pre-school educators, it was found that emotional intelligence and beliefs about social and emotional learning both predicted work engagement. Furthermore, their beliefs about social and emotional learning mediated the relationship between emotional intelligence and work engagement. Additionally, some dimensions of the beliefs about social and emotional learning moderated the relationship between emotional intelligence and work engagement. The specific findings are discussed and suggestions for future research are provided
The Palliative Function of Narrative for Children with End-Stage Cancer and the Psychopoetics of Resilience
No full textΗ μελέτη αυτή εστιάζει το ενδιαφέρον της στην πολλαπλή παρηγορητική λειτουργία της αφήγησης στο πλαίσιο της φροντίδας που παρέχεται σε παιδιά με καρκίνο τελικού σταδίου. Η σύγχρονη αφήγηση αντιμετωπίζεται ως ένα χρήσιμο εργαλείο στα χέρια του ψυχολόγου, γιατί μπορεί να προσφέρει βοήθεια στην κάλυψη των ψυχολογικών και πνευματικών αναγκών των μικρών παιδιών, να έχει καθησυχαστική επίδραση στους φόβους τους και να δώσει ειλικρινείς και ικανοποιητικές απαντήσεις στα εναγώνια ερωτήματά τους. Μπορεί επίσης να αποβεί βοηθητική για όλη την οικογένεια και να επιδράσει θετικά στην ενεργοποίηση της ανθεκτικότητας των μελών της. Ανάλογο ρόλο μπορεί να διαδραματίσει και ως προς την στήριξη των ανθρώπων που φροντίζουν τον μικρό άρρωστο, είτε αυτοί είναι εθελοντές, είτε επαγγελματίες της υγείας.
Με βασικό κριτήριο την καταλληλότητα για ανθρώπους διαφορετικής εθνικότητας και κοσμοθεωρίας, αλλά και την ακρίβεια των πληροφοριών που περιέχουν, επιλέγονται τέσσερες σύγχρονες αφηγήσεις από ισάριθμα παιδικά βιβλία, δημιουργημένες από συγγραφείς που είτε έχουν οι ίδιοι, ως γονείς, βιώσει την ασθένεια και την απώλεια, είτε έχουν πραγματοποιήσει ενδελεχή έρευνα και μελέτη για το θέμα αυτό. Οι αφηγήσεις αυτές εξετάζονται ως συγκεκριμένα παραδείγματα που μπορούν να αξιοποιηθούν στο πλαίσιο της ψυχολογικής βοήθειας που προσφέρεται στους ίδιους τους μικρούς ασθενείς, αλλά και στα πρόσωπα που τους περιβάλλουν και τους φροντίζουν. Για το ευρύτερο κοινό οι αφηγήσεις αυτές μπορεί να βοηθήσουν σε μια προσπάθεια γενικότερης ενημέρωσης και ευαισθητοποίησης, γιατί προβάλλουν ένα σύγχρονο βιοψυχοκοινωνικό και περισσότερο συμμετοχικό μοντέλο ιατρικής φροντίδας που συνυπολογίζει τις ψυχολογικές και πνευματικές συνιστώσες, ένα μοντέλο περισσότερο βοηθητικό για ενηλίκους και παιδιά, θεραπευτές και θεραπευομένους.The present study focuses on the multiple palliative function of narrative in the frame of the palliative care for children with end-stage cancer. Narrative of today can be a useful tool in the psychologist’s hands to meet children’s psychological and spiritual needs, to appease fears and to give clear and honest answers to their anxious questions facing death and illness. Narrative is helpful for the support of the whole family and of the caregivers, volunteers and health professionals and a way to encourage the activation of resilience in all these people. With the basic criteria of the intercultural quality and of the credibility and preciseness we have chosen four stories written by authors who as parents have a personal experience of the loss and illness or have performed a thorough investigation of the subject. These stories serve as a model to explain the possibilities of the narrative for the support of the little patients and of their parents and caregivers. For the general public, these narratives can serve as a source of information and familiarization with an innovate interactive biopsychosocial model of care, based on participatory type and useful for all people, patients and caregivers, children and adults alike

It is a process based on detecting the new social, political and multicultural reality which generates differentiated conditions of cognitive field composition. New identities and fields of perception towards social composition are formed by the educational community discourse. Within a climate of uncertainty and insecurity, new interpretations are the result of new approaches. This way, people are able to understand themselves and others throughout an endless interaction in which new needs full of knowledge and strategies that should be chosen and implemented are formed.The modern society of risk is conducive to shaping fluid approaches about the educational community operation and the formation of subjects and the cognitive “claims” of the curricula. Pedagogical rationalism is apparently more and more under question by the fluid social reality which should probably activate reflection processes about “life education” inculcated by the cognitive perception of individual formation in changing real fields
2. Επαγγελματική ικανοποίηση για ένα υγιές, ποιοτικό και αποτελεσματικό σχολείο / Job satisfaction for a healthy, quality and effective school
No full textTeachers’ job satisfaction and occupational burnout as independent research areas are interesting, yet challenging domains of research in the field of educational leadership. Therefore, in recent years researchers’ focus tended to be on the possibility of joint examination of these two research areas, which emanates from the need to design an enriched quality support model in education, stimulating school effectiveness and creating health promoting schools. The focus of the present study lies on the effort of profiling the degree in which certain factors contribute to the formation of job satisfaction to EPAL teachers, in combination with the study of occupational burnout. The key strategy of the present study was to explore the effect of four factors in achieving job satisfaction among teachers (the way of decision-making, the existing school climate, the feelings deriving from work and the working conditions). These will be examined in combination with the investigation of occupational burnout and demographic characteristics. For the purposes of the study, the use of a structured self-completion questionnaire as a tool was used and data were subsequently analyzed
