Private Supplementary Tutoring Centers’ Performance in Iran: Students, Principals and Officers’ Opinions
No full textFor over three decades, private supplementary tutoring has become a common educational phenomenon in Iran. One of the most common forms of private tutoring in Iran was centers that operated with the permission from the Ministry of Education. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of these centers through students, principals and officers’ opinions. The sample population of this study was made up of 249 students, 53 principals and 23 officers of education bureau who were selected through a multi-stage cluster sampling method from five different provinces of Iran. The findings revealed that students indicated that private centers have a relatively poor and inappropriate level of facilities. With respect to the objective and goal of these institutes, most of the students found that tutors have a good level of professional knowledge, using appropriate teaching methods and constantly evaluated learners abilities through different exams. In contrast, there was a serious disagreement between principals and officers’ opinion about centers’ performance with regards to their educational roles and common offenses.For over three decades, private supplementary tutoring has become a common educational phenomenon in Iran. Get PDFΤην Τρίτη 3 Μαΐου 2016 το Πανεπιστήμιο Κρήτης και το Τμήμα Φιλοσοφικών και Κοινωνικών Σπουδών αναγόρευσε τον Étienne Balibar, Ομότιμο Καθηγητή του Πανεπιστημίου Paris X - Nanterre, σε Επίτιμo Διδάκτορα του Τμήματος Φιλοσοφικών και Κοινωνικών Σπουδών.Το Πανεπιστήμιο Κρήτης τίμησε τον διακεκριμένο καθηγητή για το διεπιστημονικό του έργο, το οποίο εκτείνεται σε μεγάλο εύρος των ανθρωπιστικών και κοινωνικών επιστημών και δίνει έμφαση στη φιλοσοφία, την πολιτική θεωρία, την ανθρωπολογία, καθώς και την επιστημολογία των κοινωνικών επιστημών. The professional development of the teacher as a lever of effective school class management
No full textIt is well established, that the quality and the outcomes of education are highly dependent on the scientific and pedagogical competence and abilities of the teachers. Based on this reasoning, it is considered that the holistic and specialized preparation and readiness of educators in Inclusion Classes plays a crucial role in their wise and effective functioning. In this empirical work, an extensive and long-winded investigation and negotiation of the views and opinions of Inclusion Classes’ educators working in the prefecture of Lasithi, is being explored in correlation to the scientific profile, which could characterize the qualified special education teacher.It is well established, that the quality and the outcomes of education are highly dependent on the scientific and pedagogical competence and abilities of the teachers. Visual Ethnography and Education: A Teaching Proposal
No full textAudiovisual recordings (i.e. photography, film, and video) within the context of ethnographic fieldwork, combined with the potential of New Technologies and the Internet, constitute a valuable material for the researchers as well as for the educators. Through the project method, Visual Ethnography can be applied in Education, aiming at the students’ acquaintance with their folk and popular culture and its dimensions, as well as their familiarity with audiovisual exhibits and their visual literacy. This article presents a teaching proposal, based on the project method, for the application of audiovisual ethnographic data of folk and popular culture in the Primary Education.Audiovisual recordings (i.e. photography, film, and video) within the context of ethnographic fieldwork, combined with the potential of New Technologies and the Internet, constitute a valuable material for the researchers as well as for the educators. No full textΜε μεγάλη χαρά σας παρουσιάζω τον παρόντα τόμο του περιοδικού "Ελεύθερνα". Ο εν λόγω τόμος, σε αντιδιαστολή με προηγούμενους, δεν είναι επικεντρωμένος σε κάποιο επιμέρους επιστημονικό πεδίο της Ψυχολογίας. Χαρακτηρίζεται όμως από την παρουσίαση εργασιών, οι περισσότερες των οποίων καθρεφτίζουν "δουλειά" που κάνουν φοιτητές του Τμήματος (προπτυχιακοί, μεταπτυχιακοί) στο πλαίσιο της εκπόνησης πτυχιακών ή διδακτορικών μελετών υπό την επίβλεψη του επιστημονικού προσωπικού του Τμήματος. Οι δημοσιεύσεις αυτές αποτελούν κατά κάποιο τρόπο μια επιβράβευση της προσπάθειας που κατέβαλαν και της επιμέλειας που επέδειξαν. Πέραν αυτών με την πρωτοβουλία αυτή παρέχεται η δυνατότητα "προβολής" του έργου τους και δίνεται ένα "κίνητρο" ενθάρρυνσης παρόμοιων προσπαθειών. Ευελπιστούμε και επόμενοι τόμοι της "Ελεύθερνα" να δώσουν αντίστοιχες ευκαιρίες σε νέους επιστήμονες. Επιπλέον ευελπιστούμε ως Τμήμα ο επόμενος χρόνος, χρόνος κατά τον οποίο συμπληρώνονται 30 χρόνια λειτουργίας του να συνδυαστεί με την ηλεκτρονική έκδοση αυτής της προσπάθειας που θα διευρύνει την προσβασιμότητα του σε μεγαλύτερο κοινό
Qualitative approach to the procedure for the selection of primary school heads by law 4327/2015
No full textThe purpose of this paper is to discuss the new law on the selection of school heads, namely, L.4327/2015, through the experiential narratives of ten school heads who participated in the process and eventually were appointed to the position of school head. The topic was selected following the enactment of the above-mentioned Law. Over time, the institutional framework for the selection of school heads has undergone considerable change, as a result of which any political expediency may often become intensified. For this reason, the educational community displays an increasing interest in the experience of participants where recent evaluations are concerned. This research seeks to define in a definite and clear manner the selection process by taking due account of the political context and the degree to which the latter affects such process. At the beginning of the paper a bibliographical review is provided, while the purpose of the research and research questions are set out. Subsequently, the methodology employed is presented and research results are analyzed in detail.
