    Morphometric data on body size and digit ratios of the common spadefoot toad (Pelobates fuscus)

    The dataset includes information on sex, with individuals categorized as male or female, as well as key body size metrics such as snout-to-vent length (SVL), measured from the tip of the snout to the posterior end of the vent, providing an overall estimate of body size, and head width (HW), which represents the maximum width of the head and is useful for assessing allometric relationships and potential differences between sexes. Additionally, individual digit lengths from both forelimbs and hind limbs were recorded, allowing for comparisons of limb proportions. Moreover, the dataset includes digit ratios, calculated from specific digit measurements. The specimens were obtained from an archival collection, located in the Department of Zoology at the Poznań University of Life Sciences. Please note, that for some individuals, the dataset lacks values for digit length and digit ratios in the forelimbs. This is due to some archival specimens having forelimbs in poor condition, making accurate measurement impossible.Data contains a ReadMe.pdf file.</p

    Zbiór danych obejmuje wyniki identyfikacji składu mikrobiologicznego próbek mleka i próbek pobranych z różnych etapów procesu produkcji masła, pochodzących z zakładów mleczarskich. Materiał obejmował 200 próbek mleka oraz 63 próbki z kluczowych etapów technologicznych, takich jak transport mleka cysternami czy pasteryzacja. Analizy przeprowadzono z wykorzystaniem metody MALDI-TOF MS (Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry), co pozwoliło na identyfikację 146 różnych mikroorganizmów. Celem zbierania danych była ocena różnorodności mikrobiologicznej na poszczególnych etapach produkcji masła, identyfikacja potencjalnych źródeł zanieczyszczeń oraz ocena skuteczności procesów higienicznych i technologicznych, takich jak pasteryzacja, w zapewnianiu bezpieczeństwa mikrobiologicznego i jakości produktów mlecznych.</p

    Fossil whitefly from Lower Lusatia (Germany) - the data set associated with the publication

    The data set associated with the publication titled &#34;The discovery of a fossil whitefly from Lower Lusatia (Germany) presents a challenge to current ideas about Baltic amber&#34; NCN funding. Data contains files with photos and drawings of body parts of the described new species Pudrica christianottoi in this study, prepared using a Leica M205C, Nikon SMZ25, Nikon SMZ1500, Nikon SMZ1270, Nikon Eclipse E600, CorelDraw X9, CorelPaintX9, (University of Silesia, Katowice, Poland). Fourier Transform Infrared Spectra were obtained in the Amber Experts company laboratory, Gdańsk, with Thermo Scientific Nicolet 380 FT-IR Spectrometer, with ATR and baseline correction (Gdańsk, Poland). A publication analysing the data is linked.Please consult the Figure_legends.odt and Readme.txt files for additional information.</p

    Wybrane materiały to opracowane wywiady, które zostały przeprowadzone przez studentów krakowskiej etnologii pod opieką Zbigniewa Libery i Czesława Robotyckiego do wydanej w 2001 r. monografii „Wilamowice: przyroda, historia, język, kultura oraz społeczeństwo miasta i gminy” pod redakcją Antoniego Barciaka. Prezentowany dokument to wypisy – cytaty, które były przydatne do tworzenia tekstów naukowych w ramach projektu NCN Preludium „Z Flandrii, przez Niemcy, do Polski. Analiza teorii etnogenezy Wilamowian”. Wyboru oraz anonimizacji dokonał Tymoteusz Król.Dane rozmówców zostały zanonimizowane poprzez kod: miejscowość/inicjały/zakres dat urodzenia/rok przeprowadzenia wywiadu. Cyfry w kwadratowych nawiasach oznaczają numer strony wywiadu.</p

    Chirped flicker optoretinography for in vivo characterization of human photoreceptors’ frequency response to light

    Flicker electroretinography (ERG) has served as a valuable noninvasive objective tool for investigating retinal physiological function through the measurement of electrical signals originating from retinal neurons in response to temporally modulated light stimulation. Deficits in the response at certain frequencies can be used as effective biomarkers of cone-pathway dysfunction. In this Letter, we present the progress we made on its optical counterpart—photopic flicker optoretinography (f-ORG). Specifically, we focus on the measurement of the response of light-adapted retinal photoreceptors to a flicker stimulus with chirped frequency modulation. In contrast to measurements performed at discrete frequencies, this technique enables a significantly accelerated characterization of photoreceptor outer segment optical path length modulation amplitudes in the nanometer range as a function of stimulus frequency, enabling the acquisition of the characteristic frequency response in less than 2 sec.</p

    Sex-Dependent Regulation of Liver Fibrosis in Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis: The Role of miR-125b, Androgen Receptors, TGF-β, and Apelin Signalling

    This study explore how hormonal and molecular pathways contribute to the differential progression of liver fibrosis between men and women with PSC.The study focuses on several key molecular players: miR-125b, androgen receptors, TGF-β signaling, and apelin signaling. Through experimental analysis, the authors demonstrate that these factors modulate the fibrotic response in a sex-dependent manner, with implications for how the disease progresses in different genders. miR-125b, a microRNA involved in regulating inflammatory responses, is shown to play a significant role in the fibrotic response, possibly by interacting with androgen receptors.Androgen receptors are highlighted for their involvement in the progression of liver fibrosis, particularly in male patients. The androgen-driven signaling pathways may enhance fibrosis through interactions with other key players, such as TGF-β.TGF-β (Transforming Growth Factor-beta), a critical regulator of fibrosis in many chronic liver diseases, is discussed as a central mediator of fibrosis in PSC, with differences in its expression and activity between sexes.Apelin, an endogenous peptide involved in various physiological processes, is found to modulate fibrosis and liver inflammation in a sex-dependent manner, contributing to the complexity of PSC.The study presents compelling evidence that sex hormones and their associated signaling pathways significantly influence the progression of liver fibrosis in PSC. The findings suggest that therapeutic approaches targeting these pathways, specifically tailored to male and female patients, could provide new avenues for managing PSC more effectively.</p
