    Study of the Late Roman gold and political power in the Barbaricum

    The dataset encompasses materials pertaining to recent discoveries of gold objects and gold coins from the Barbaricum, dating from the 1st to the 4th century AD. The materials consist of photographs of key finds from archaeological sites in Poland, Denmark, Slovakia, and Ukraine, comparative analyses of similar discoveries across the Barbaricum, a cartographic representation detailing the distribution of gold objects and coins in the Barbaricum, and maps delineating the geographical distribution of specific types of gold artifacts from the Late Roman period.Files 1, 2, and 5-8 present photographs of gold objects, aurei, and solidi unearthed in various regions of the Barbaricum, including the assemblage from Czarnówko (File 1), cut objects from the bog deposit in Illerup Ådal, Denmark (File 2), a grave assemblage from the Ostrovany site in Slovakia (File 5), a detailed plan of a grave from Ulów, Poland, featuring golden items and aureus fragments (File 6), an image of a rare aureus of Postumus with a Greek inscription housed in the Ossolineum collection in Wrocław, Poland (File 7), and gold items and coins from the Brangstrup Hoard, Denmark (File 8). Two other files illustrate statistics concerning the chronology of mid-3rd-century aurei finds in Ukraine (File 3) and the position of holes on aurei (File 4). These examples aid in understanding the spread and typology of gold objects throughout the Barbaricum during the Late Roman period.The next files, represented by ten maps, aim to visualize the geographical distribution of gold object discoveries in the Barbaricum during the 1st-4th centuries, and specifically, the locations where the most significant gold hoards and finds have been located. File 9 represents the distribution of grave assemblages (3rd century) in the Barbaricum containing cut-up gold objects. File 10 consists of the distribution of mid-3rd-century aurei finds in the Barbaricum. The distribution of elite graves from the Late Roman Period (C1b-C3) in the Barbaricum is represented in File 11. File 12 is devoted to the distribution of Late Roman period gold foil pendants stamped with anthropomorphic and zoomorphic ornaments. File 13 consists of a map showing the distribution of rosette brooch finds. The distribution of fold pelta-shaped and crescentic pendants without anthropomorphic/zoomorphic motifs is represented in File 14. File 15 represents the distribution of gold hoards in Denmark during the Late Roman Iron Age. File 16 shows the distribution of finds of gold imitations of Roman coins. File 17 shows the distribution of Kolbenarmringe bracelets in the Barbaricum. Finally, File 18 represents the distribution of Roman gold medallions in the Barbaricum.This dataset is crucial for furthering the understanding of the circulation and cultural significance of gold objects within the Barbaricum during the Late Roman period. It contributes to research on the typological, contextual, and geographical analysis of gold artifacts and their role in the archaeological record.</p

    Alloying hBN with aluminum influences absorption and electronic properties

    The experimental data set is related to the article “Alloying hBN with aluminum influences absorption and electronic properties&#34;.The files contain the data presented in figures related to the aforementioned article.Summary of the reasearch: The versatile range of applications for two-dimensional (2D) materials has encouraged scientists to engineer their properties. This is often accomplished by stacking atomically thin layered materials into complex van der Waals heterostructures. A less popular but technologically promising approach is alloying 2D materials. In this work, we demonstrate a first step towards tuning the intrinsic electronic properties of hexagonal boron nitride (hBN). We present a series of aluminum alloyed hexagonal boron nitride (hBAlN) samples grown by metal organic vapor phase epitaxy on 2-inch sapphire substrates with varying aluminum concentration. Importantly, the obtained samples revealed a sp2-bonded crystal structure and modifications in interband optical transitions. Optical absorption experiments disclosed two prominent peaks in the excitonic spectral range with absorption coefficients ~106 cm-1. Their peak energies align closely with the energies of indirect and direct bandgap transitions in hBN. The presence of two absorption peaks can be attributed to mixing of electronic states in the K and M conduction band valleys, resulting in a substantial increase in the absorption coefficient for indirect transitions. The observed effects offer insights into hBN-based two-dimensional alloys, highlighting the potential for developing 2D material-based quantum well structures capable of operating in the challenging deep UV spectral range</p

    Design and synthesis of proteolytically stable and cell permeable activators of human 20S proteasome and assessing their influence on the enzyme activity in cellular models of neurodegenerative diseases

    We had identified a new class of peptide-based proteasome activators, inspired by the C-terminal fragment of the Blm10 protein – the yeast equivalent of PA200. An activator called Blm-pep and its analogs strongly stimulated the proteasome. However, they were degraded rapidly in the body and were unable to enter cells. We worked on improving these properties.We designed peptidomimetics which showed resistance to proteases present in human plasma. The compounds interacted with the human proteasome and possessed the ability to activate it. Their activity was enhanced in comparison to the parent peptides, with the most effective modulators boosting proteasome function up to 10-fold.We also tested our compounds on proteins directly linked to neurodegenerative diseases: tau (Alzheimer’s disease) and α-synuclein (Parkinson’s disease). The activators accelerated their degradation by the proteasome. By attaching so-called cell-penetrating peptides, we enabled the activators to cross cell membranes and even the blood–brain barrier – a crucial feature for potential therapeutic use.Further experiments confirmed that the compounds were not cytotoxic and worked not only in test tubes but also inside cells. In a model of mouse neurons mimicking Parkinson’s disease, we demonstrated that our activators effectively promoted the removal of toxic α-synuclein without reducing neuronal survival.Please consult the Readme.txt file for additional information.</p

    Boosting sorption features and eco-safety of cross-linked alginate composites incorporated with stoichiometric and calcium-deficient hydroxyapatites

    The archived data were gathered within the research project titled ‘Realizacja Europejskiego Zielonego Ładu poprzez zastosowanie innowacyjnych materiałów hydrożelowych opartych na biopolimerach i wypełniaczach nieorganicznych na potrzeby rolnictwa.’, eng. ‘EU Green Deal realization through the application of innovative hydrogel materials based on biopolymers and inorganic fillers for agricultural needs’, financed by the MSCA4Ukraine project (grant holder Ganna Yanovska), which is funded by the European Union.  (project no. 1233565). The primary objective of this study was to develop and characterize eco-friendly hydrogel composites based on sodium alginate (SA) and two types of hydroxyapatite – stoichiometric (HA) and calcium-deficient (CDHA) – for potential agricultural applications, including soil conditioning and cadmium removal. The hydrogels were synthesized with varying concentrations of calcium chloride (0.25–0.5%) as a cross-linking agent and different HA/CDHA loadings. Comprehensive physicochemical analyses (XRD, FTIR, SEM/TEM, textural analysis) confirmed the successful incorporation of mineral fillers into the alginate matrix and revealed structural differences between HA- and CDHA-based composites. Swelling studies demonstrated that both filler type and cross-linking density strongly affected water uptake and diffusion mechanisms. Biosafety tests using Pisum sativum and Lepidium sativum seeds confirmed the non-toxic nature of the materials. The research was conducted in the period from 1st May 2024 till 1st November 2025 at the Institute of Agrophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences in Lublin (Poland). The collection contains the results of studies on: (1) characteristics of hydroxyapatite and calcium deficient hydroxyapatite, as well as hydrogels contained these fillers, (2) adsorption studies of Cadmium ions, including adsorption mechanisms on the selected materials, (3) swelling studies of hydrogels, (4) evaluation of the ecotoxicity of the developed material and its effects on the growth of plants. ​The attached files have been compressed to *.zip format. The dataset consists of the following files:1) character – raw data on the determination of textural parameters (nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherm, specific surface area, porosity, pore size distribution), phase analysis, morphology, elemental composition, FTIR analysis of inorganic fillers and hydrogels obtained from them (.odt, .pdf., xls, .xlsx, .tiff, .txt).2) ads – raw data on the measurements of adsorbed amounts of Cd ions (.xlsx).3) swelling – raw data on hydrogels swelling (.xlsx).4) biosafety – root length data of cress (L. sativum) grown (.odt, .xlsx).The data was compiled on the basis of laboratory tests.The results presented in file „character” were obtained using the following research equipment: nitrogen adsorption/desorption analyzer ASAP2405 (Micromeritics Inc.), scanning electron microscope (Quanta 3D FEG, FEI), X-ray phase analysis (XRD) (Empyrean, PANalytical), Transmission Electron Microscope (Tecnai, G2 T20 X-TWIN, FEI), Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR) (ThermoNicolet iS10). The results presented in file „ads” were obtained using the PH/Ion meter CPI-505 (Elmetron) with ionoselective electrodes (Detector s.c.) The results presented in file „swelling” were obtained using the following research equipment: scales Radwag (AS 110R2 Plus).The results presented in file “biosafety” were obtained with smartphone camera and calliper rule.</p
