    Identification and quantitation of key aroma compounds present in polish traditional mead „trójniak” using gas chromatography-olfactometry and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry in mead and intermediate production stages (bee honey, 1st day of fermentation, 30th day of fermentation).Project context: The project focuses on investigating key odorants in mead, the possible pathways of their formation, and the changes in their concentrations during the production process.     New fruit waste-derived activated carbons of high adsorption performance towards metal, metalloid, and polymer species in multicomponent systems

    The archived data were gathered within the research project titled ‘Wpływ złożonej modyfikacji fizykochemicznej środowiska glebowego na mobilność metali, metaloidów i herbicydów - badania laboratoryjne’, eng. ‘The impact of complex physicochemical modification of the soil environment on the mobility of metals, metalloids and herbicides - laboratory tests’, financed by the National Science Centre, Poland as part of the project under the OPUS 21 call (project no. 2021/41/B/NZ9/03059).The primary objective of this study was to develop a novel activated carbon derived from fruit waste through pyrolysis or microwave-assisted activation, utilizing CO₂, for the removal of metals, metalloids, and polymers from aqueous solutions. The textural properties, surface chemistry, and sorption characteristics of fruit waste precursors (chokeberry seeds, black currant seeds, and orange peels), along with the resulting biochars and activated carbons. The evaluation of the adsorption capacity of the most effective synthesized material in systems containing two types of contaminants (metals, metalloids, and polymers) simultaneously was made. The adsorption mechanisms of ions and macromolecules were thoroughly investigated, and experimental data were compared with theoretical models. To determine the strength of toxic metals and metalloids binding, desorption studies were also conducted. Additionally, the evaluation of the selected material for real-world contaminants concentrations adsorption was carried out.The research was conducted in the period from 1th January 2022 till 26th April 2024 at the Institute of Agrophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences in Lublin (Poland) as well as Department of Applied Chemistry, Faculty of Chemistry, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (Poland). The collection contains the results of studies on: (1) characteristics of fruit waste precursors (chokeberry seeds, black currant seeds, and orange peels), as well as biochars and activated carbons obtained from these fruit wastes, (2) adsorption studies of metalloids: arsenic (As), selenium (Se), metals: cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), and polymers: bacterial exopolysaccharide (EPS), cationic polyacrylamide (CtPAM), and anionic polyacrylamide (AnPAM) on selected materials, including adsorption mechanisms of metals/metalloids and polymers on the selected materials, (3) complexation studies of metals and metalloids by polymers, (4) studies of metals and metalloids desorption from the surface of the selected activated carbon with water or polymers solutions.The attached files have been compressed to *.zip format.     Validation of the Toronto Upper Gastrointestinal Cleaning Score in children

    Objectives: Gastroscopy is used to examine the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract, but no validated method yet exists to assess the quality of mucosal visualization in children. Utilizing validated endoscopic scales can enhance study quality and standardization across centers. This study aimed to validate the existing Toronto Upper Gastrointestinal Cleaning Score (TUGCS) in pediatric patients.Methods: This was a multicenter, prospective, single-masked study conducted in 10 European pediatric gastroenterology centers. Endoscopists with varying degrees of experience assessed the quality of mucosal visualization in prerecorded gastroscopies using the TUGCS. Each endoscopist assessed the studies two times in random order, with an interval of at least 2 weeks. The correlations of individual and total scores were statistically compared between themselves, between assessors, and between assessment attempts. Internal consistency was also checked with Cronbach&#39;s α.Results: Seventeen endoscopists participated in the study. The TUGCS demonstrated high consistency within raters, with a score of 0.64 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.34-0.84), and an excellent test-retest reliability of 0.97 (95% CI: 0.94-0.99). The scale also showed high internal consistency, with a Cronbach&#39;s α of 0.95. The correlation between different items ranged from 0.60 to 0.77, and the correlation between individual items and the total score ranged from 0.66 to 0.88. No significant differences in the assessment were found based on the raters&#39; experience performing endoscopy, specialization, age, or gender. The endoscopists found TUGCS easy to learn and potentially useful, especially in clinical trials.Conclusions: The TUGCS was demonstrated as a reliable and validated method for assessing the visualization quality of the upper GI mucosa in pediatric patients.</p

    Raw data from ex vivo permeation test (IVPT) of agomelatine (AGM) from microneedle systems.Microneedle system specifications:3D printing method: DLPmicroneedle shape: conecoating-gel type: suspension gelDrug permeation studies:The permeation of agomelatine (AGM) was evaluated using Franz Diffusion Cells (Teledyne Hanson 376 Research, USA) with full-thickness human skin as the diffusion membrane. The skin was thawed in PBS at room temperature, mounted on the diffusion cells, and conditioned for 30 min. After this time the microneedle system was placed onto the chamber opening (1 cm²) with full-thickness human skin as the diffusion membrane. The study lasted for 7 days and sodium azide 0.02% w/v was added to the acceptor fluid as an antimicrobial agent. At specific time points, 0.3 mL samples were taken and analyzed using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The amount of the acceptor medium taken for the analysis was immediately replaced with the fresh portion of the fluid. Six replications were performed for each formulation. After the study, the epidermis and dermis from each skin sample were separated manually using scissors and forceps and inserted in tubes with 3 mm zirconium beads (Benchmark Scientific Inc., Sayreville, NJ, USA). Next, 1 mL of water and ethanol solution (50:50 v/v) was added to each tube, and the samples were homogenized for 9 min using a BeadBug Microtube Homogenizer (Benchmark Scientific Inc., USA). Then, the samples were centrifuged for 5 min at 10,000 rpm, and the supernatant was analyzed using HPLC to examine the amount of the drug in the tissue.Quantification of AGM:The amount of AGM permeated was analyzed using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) (Shimadzu Nexera-I LC-2040C, Japan) with LabSolution Lite software.Chromatographic Conditions:Column: Reversed-phase C18 (HyperClone BDS C18, 5 µm, 4.6 × 250 mm, Phenomenex, Torrance, CA, USA)Column Temperature: 30.0 ± 0.2°CMobile Phase: Acetonitrile and 0.05 M potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution (pH &#61; 2.9, adjusted with 85% orthophosphoric acid) in a 35:65 ratioMode: IsocraticFlow Rate: 1.0 mL/minDetection Wavelength: 230 nmThe set contains data in LCD/ LCB format, created using the LabSolutions software (HPLC, Nexera LC 2040C).     The microbiological and biochemical parameters of manure from antibiotic-treated turkeys

    The microbiological and biochemical parameters of manure should be considered in order to develop comprehensive and effective strategies for the management of manure from farmed antibiotic-treated turkeys in accordance with environmentally sustainable practices, taking into account social and economic aspects. Hence, this study was conducted on manure samples from Hybrid Converter turkeys raised to 16 weeks of age. The birds were housed in four pens (with an area of 4 m2 each) on litter (straw pellets), at 16 turkeys per pen. Turkeys were divided into four groups: control (C) group; group M – administered monensin (M) with feed; group ME – administered M with feed and enrofloxacin (E) with drinking water; group MED – administered M and E as in group ME and doxycycline (D) with drinking water. Turkeys were raised for 112 days, and then the content of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, and antibiotics was determined in manure samples. The responses of culturable and non-culturable microorganisms, and seven enzymes to the antibiotics contained in manure were tested. One kilogram of manure (fresh weight) contained 4.49-5.27 mg of M, 5.11-7.83 mg of E, and 3.39 mg of D. Antibiotics exerted a highly negative effect on culturable microorganisms. In group MED, the counts of organotrophic bacteria decreased by 40%, Actinobacteria counts decreased by 89%, and fungal counts decreased by 85%. Antibiotics also modified the structure of microbial communities in turkey manure. Bacteria of the phylum Firmicutes and fungi of the phylum Mucoromycota were most susceptible to the analyzed antimicrobials. Antibiotics modified the number of amplicon sequence variants (ASVs) of bacterial families and genera and the number of operational taxonomic units (OTUs) of fungi. The examined antimicrobials decreased the diversity of non-culturable bacteria, but did not induce major changes in fungal diversity. Antibiotics clearly inhibited the activity of enzymes, in particular dehydrogenases and urease. Dehydrogenases activity was reduced by 47%, and urease activity by 72%</p
